I hope I'm not oversubscribing myself, but since I'm building it anyway, here's my Mi-3 Ambulance entered into the fray

Thanks Justin. I am hoping my order from spruebrothers hurrys up... I parifilmed the main windscreen, but those back windows made me angry. So I ordered the Mask set from eduard. So I have to wait a bit until that comes. But that means I can build up the rotor assemblies, and get some of the other stuff done, as I anticipate it being here by saturday. And, like anybody ordering stuff from a model site, I also ordered an M-18 Hellcat... That armor stuff can be a welcome break from puttying and sanding!!!

I've got the pictures of my finished Cobra here. The Hobby Boss kit builds up quite well and makes for an attractive model although there is a nasty seam inside the exhaust and the canopy has some fit issues.

The main problem Hobby Boss has in regards to their helicopters is that their research is poor. As I've said before they offer two Cobra kits; an AH-1F and an AH-1S. The AH-1F, this kit, is actually an AH-1E and the AH-1S is an AH-1F.

They have similar problems with their Lynx's and their Huey range.

Anyway, for my first helicopter I think I did well enough but I can definitely do much better next time. So here it is; an AH-1E Cobra based at the U.S Army Aviation Centre, Fort Rucker, Alabama.

I finally got started on mine tonight. I decided to undertake the Hobby Boss 1/72 Hip-c. I'll be doing it in Serbian Militia markings, gloss white with large blue fields/stripes. The kit is as nice to build as their Hind in the same scale. Everything fits well. Major assemblies are keyed into the fuselage so there is no guess work in figuring out what goes where. The only addition I have made was to add some seat belts from lead foil. Otherwise, it's completely OOB. I've made good progress tonight. I will let the front set up over night and continue gluing the fuselage halves together tomorrow after class. More to follow soon. Thanks, "Q"

Matt: I am a little jealous that you can put in work on your Mi-8! Im stuck here at work all day, and it is dead... But, I got the Eduard masks for mine so I should be able to put in some work on mine ealry next week. I have to finish my Mig-21MF before the weekend, as I intend to enter it into a contest. After that... Game On! I will watch your progress to see how the kit fares!

Thanks for the kudos Michael. You will enjoy the way it goes together...practically builds itself. I opted to leave all the side windows out of mine and fill the openings with Micro Krystal Kleer once painting was complete. Easier than masking in my book. A little more progress was made this afternoon. I got all the clamps removed and resulting seams dressed which wasn't too bad. Only a couple spots required some putty. I'll let this set while I prepare dinner for Mrs. Q and I then get back at after dinner. Not much left to before she heads for the paint shop. "Q"

How does that work with the Micro Kristal Klear? I have heard it mentioned a couple times. Could you perhaps post some pics of how you work with it on here?

I started on the masking this morning. As the greenhouse canopy on the Hip has rounded corners, I decided to use a little trick I have used in the past. Rather than try and run a continuous piece of thin tape around the perimeter of the panels like I usually do, I punched out discs that had as close a curve as the ones on the canopy and placed them in the corners. I then cut pieces of tape to fill the field areas in and basically connected the dots. When I pull the masking off I will have nice rounded corners. Looking at my discs, it appears I have some with slightly jagged edges. I will probably have to clean these up with a tooth pick, but it shouldn't present any major issues. I used foam ear plugs cut up to fill the window holes, and a piece of a make-up application foam wedge for the square window/hatch openings. Hoping to get her into the paint booth this evening.
More to follow. "Q"

It's a great looking model I have to say. Is there much of an interior for the rear cabin?

Thanks. There are a couple of seats that install in the rear most area. I left them out as they won't be seen once I seal this up. There is ample room for adding more detail if you like. If you look at the pics I initially posted it will give you an idea of how much space there is. It is pretty good right out of the box.
Hope this helps.

Glad you like the dots idea Jessie. It can be pretty tedious if there are a ton of them to punch, but the results are well worth the effort.

Over on Hyperscale, I was given a suggestion on how to deal with the ragged edges on the tape. Apply the tape to a piece of sheet plastic before punching the discs. It keeps the edges nice and crisp. you burn through some sheet plastic, but nothing horrible. I plan on giving this a try... Now you know the rest of the story...

The hip has paint. Just finished unmasking her and other than a few slight areas to touch up, all is well. More to follow. Thanks, "Q"
