Need to do some "campaign math". I'm just about done with the Aeroscale Midway campaign. Do I squeeze this one in now, before October and the Armorama Artillery Campaign starts-- strike while the iron's hot-- or wait until the schedule eases up after the new year? I have until mid-October to finish an Armorama Soft-skin too yet. Never did get a kit for the Armorama Command campaign, ending in October, dang it.
Got the kids off for the first day of school, overtime on projects at work, American football season is starting, etc...
Time to go!!

I signed up for the campaign and will be using the Tamiya kit #85 {which includes the motor tug} as the subject, {which markings I end up using is undecided}, though it'll be 6 - 8 weeks before I can start on this bird, as I have a consignment build to finish off.

Hi fellow Sky Pirates.
I am building the 1/48 Hobby Craft kit of the clipped wing British Commonwealth Corsair. As you can see the box lid and the decals look the worse for wear [some of my stash were drenched when the roof of my shed blew off during a storm many moons ago]. The plastic is absolutely fine. Looking forward to an excellent campaign.
All the best.

Just dug my AU-1 out of the stash. My plan is to do it in the markings of the USN Reserve (just have to remember where I put them!)
Hope to start tomorrow, as I have a couple of projects on the bench right now that are just about done.

My entry is this particular kit.
I'm undecided as to which decal option.

Nice one D, I have the same night fighter kit you are building. In the end I decided to do the Commonwealth version. Not bad looking version of the Corsair from Hobby Craft. I like the inclusion of the dropped flaps.

Got a start - I am using Hasegawa's AU-1 (building it as an F4U-5) and the IPMS convention decals for NAS Glenview.
Most of the major bits - cockpit together and painted, wing together and some work on the fuselage. I replaced the kit seat with aftermarket.
A closer shot of the cockpit.
Fuselage buttoned up, wings installed, and starting to look like a Corsair!

@litespeed: those sprues from the hobbycraft kit look mighty familiar... I am pretty sure that the academy kit is a rebox!
@shorty53: I meant to post earlier which corsair kit I am doing, and it looks like we are building the same one! I am not doing the Maj Boyington scheme though, I prefer the dark sea blue. Here is my start, I have some days off coming up so I will be filling my this. Side note, this is my first crack at scratch built seatbelts.

Hello all,
If I shelf my entry for the Zerstörer campaign (it's driving me crazy), I might be onboard with Revell's F4U-5, the one with the French markings from the Suez War.

I'm in for this with Hasegawa's early F4U-1 Birdcage Corsair in 1/72. Going to use a bit of aftermarket, with a True Details seat and maybe a set of wheels as well. Going for the Spirit of '76 markings.

Well, I had off today, so I got the bulk of the assembly done, and laid some paint. I plan to do a bit of post shading as the preshading would have done nothing for this. Building this kit reminds me of the first time I saw a corsair fly... A humid rainy day in July when I was 15... And it was gorgeous. The wingtip contrails during flight, and the vapor rings off the prop on engine start, and the sound of the giant prop snapping the air. Truly a beautiful bird. Anyway, here is a pic!

Made a start over the last two days.
First a couple of sprue pictures.
And now onto the work sofar.
A light wash with some oil paints and some pastels to the cockpit parts.
I just need to add the seatbelts before I close the fuselage halves together.
Thanks for looking more to follow.
Martin.

Got a bit more done before work this morning, I post shaded a bit. I will finish that tomorrow, and most likely go over it with the base color heavily thinned to blend it.

Since the campaign is focused on Pirates, there's no better decals for me than those already supplied in the kit, so I'm going to use every ounce of restraint to build this one straight out of the box. That's right. I said it. It'll be a struggle not to wander off on some alteration somewhere, but I think I can do it!
-Sean.
edit: looking back at my starting photo, those landing gear doors already look too thick and begging for replacement... if I sand the edges thinner, I can still use the kit parts...

While unpacking from the move earlier in the year I came across this
inside was a 1/72 project that I started a long while ago but never finished...
2x F-14A, SH-3H, EA-6B, A-6E, KA-6D, S-3A, E-2C, A-7E, A-4E/F and and E-2A to convert to a C-2 Greyhound
Carpena Decals did some decals of all the aircraft on the USS Forrestal (except the C-2). I had done one of the 3 Tomcats and an E-2C but that as far as it ever got. As no one is doing an A-7 yet I figured I'd build this one for the campaign (at the same time I'm going to do the A-6E Intruder for that Campaign as they're the same colour)
The kit is the Fujimi kit and will be built straight out of the box.
Work has started on by priming all the parts and building the cockpit. more to follow this weekend.

Thank goodness, my little SLUFF and I were starting to feel lonely. Here's the victim, the ACE (Korea) A-7D.
Yes, all you A-7 fans, it says Navy in big bold letters. For the rest of the class, the D was the only version of the A-7 that the Navy DIDN'T buy. The painting instructions are equally vague, apparently the entire plane except for the radome and the tip of the rudder are to left unpainted or painted white. The decals are generally for ANG birds with out the Navy intake warning, but the Navy marking is included.

Nice to see the SLUF's showing up too. I'd like to do one of those as well, if I can fit it into my build schedule.
The F4U-1 is starting to move forward. Got the detail painting mostly done on the fuselage and assembly is nigh.
