Very nice indeed Chris. May I ask? Were those home made insignia masks? If they were pre-fab, what brand were they?
Cheers,
Fred
thanks

Interesting. Did you use a desktop plotter/cutter or do you have access to something more industrial? (I ask because I've seen desktop models available for as little as $199 but am uncertain how good they are.
Cheers,
Fred

I am currently finishing the Promodeler Fw 190D11 and it comes with the flat canopy. I was wondering if anyone is willing to give me their spare blown canopy so that I can build a more accurate D-11. Thanks

Getting a little bogged down fleshing out the engine compartment but my new magnifying lamp has really been a help in speeding things up. Progress (even slow) is still progress!
Hope to have the motor finished by the end of the week.

Fred

Here are some photos of my started projekt. This represents Kurt's first adoption of the DB 603 to the 190 airframe with built in flame suppressors. Started with two cast resin fuselage halves and a donated kit. Still need to get a better macro setting.

Snorri,
What kit is that and is it a D13 or a Ta-152?

A good guess though both are off the mark. It is a Fw 190C-0 (V20/U1) The give away should have been the enclosed flame suppressors. This plane also fell under the Höhenjäger II projeckt designation.

Here are some more photos showing the cockpit and the enclosed flame suppressors. The exhaust ports have not been added on as of yet. The previous photo may not have shown the enclosed exhaust suppressors clearly enough.

@ Wespe66. I think those masks are really going to make your bird stand out. Looking forward to seeing it with more colors applied.
Pushing ahead on my Wuerger. Got the main motor assembly complete. Will finish exhausts and some sundry details then move on to the 'office suite'. Interesting builds to me are the ones that balance on the knife edge of success and failure. I think this Eduard kit will prove to be one such build!
Cheers,
Fred

Nice build there Lapman, she looks great.
Kenneth you preparation of the surface has achived a fine finish, cant wait to see some paint!
Frederick, that Engine is looking good, funny how once you put some paint on you dont see all the effort you ahve put into the details.
Well finally I have an update on one of my builds, work and life have eaten into my modelling time but I am now should have some time to get rollin....
1/48 Tamiya Fw190-F8 in "Green 2" markings. RLM 76 with RLM 83 Mottle. I have pre-shadded and sprayed the RLM 76 all over, also sprayed the RLM 04 for the tail. I now intend to put an enamel gloss coat over the top and let it harden before I attempt the mottle. I am hoping that this protective layer will alow me some respite if I need to correct the mottle, and i can use some windex to remove any errors?
Mark

Thanks Fred, I'm impressed with your engine. It looks great!
Thanks Mark, you are doing great progress too. Regarding the gloss coat before mottling: I did that once, and it worked perfectly. I did use acrylic gloss coat though. When cured, it is tought enough to withstand a quick wipe with windex on a q-tip. It sure saved me from a few spiders and unintentional splashes! An enamel varnish coat must be even better, I guess.
Andy, great work. I'm also using Xtracrylix for my build for the first time, and they sure do spray nicely. Also, when cured they are hard enough that you can polish the surface with micro-mesh or similar to get an even smoother finish without damaging the paint work. I'm impressed with Xtracrylix.
Progress report: Aircraft is being painted. The factory-applied RLM74, RLM75 and RLM76 is more or less done, and next up is the field-applied blotches of RLM74.
Then, painting of the Nachtjäger emblem and the codes, for which I ordered masks at Miracle Masks.
