Hey John...... Thank you for the compliment. My color guide was basically hard copy close up photos off the web. Granted, I love this kit but the Monogram instructions provided no accurate information regarding a lot of the paint colors for the detail work. The wheel bays and struts on a lot of the SU-25' s I have seen in photos are a light grey. I found Light Ghost Grey FS 36375 to be a close match. The struts, for the most part, appear darker than the pale grey undersides a lot of these Frogfoots( Frogfeet?, Frogfeets?) are painted in, mine included. As far as weapons go, mine is going to be ordnance free, with only drop tanks. However, all the pylons will be fitted. John, I have found the Eduard MIG-21 kit to be a good reference Soviet ordnance colors because a lot of weapons are included in the kit. If you have a question regarding a particular weapon color let me know and I will try to find out for you. Regarding the panel lines, I draw them with a Micron .005 Artist Pen. It's very easy to use and cleans up nicely if an error is made. Available at most art supply outlets and also comes in .01, .03, and .05. After I draw them, I will airbrush thinned Tamiya Smoke X-19 over them to get a feathered look. Anyway, hope that helps.

Best wishes, Ian

So about this whole..."done by the end of January" thing. Do we have some room on that deadline?

I have been informed that the deadline will stand, yet ribbons can still be awarded, after the deadline. So you have time to finish your builds. Russell

Got my Frogfoot on all three feet as well.

Best wishes, Ian

Superjet and Frogfoot, both looking really nice! I especially like the cammo on the Frogfoot, very striking.

Thinking about trying to "dust-up" the Su-9 a bit, since Jess mentioned its cleanliness. I'm really wishing the Su-11 had survived, it would look really cool in a side-by-side. Oh well, it's an excuse to buy another model I guess!

At times I despaired whether I'd actually finish, but it's done, and before the official deadline as well!

Very nice Jess! Congrats on your triumph over the forces of darkness.

Speaking of paint that won't behave...I masked the aft section of the Don't-Fitter to spray some metalizer where appropriate, and when I removed the tape I also removed some camo. One operator induced airbrush malfunction later, camo paint is "repaired" but looks like complete crap.

BUT! The wheel wells, door and landing gear are all painted. I hope to finish it tonight or tomorrow night.

Ian please tell what paints you used. I'm going to have to pin a frogfoot with this scheme on my to-do list. Absolutely gorgeous.

John and Greg----- Thank you!!!!!!

Richard-----Thank you as well. In answer to your question, I used a hodge podge of various colors to duplicate this camo. These Equatorial Guinea -25's sported a unique camo scheme. I only found four shots on the Internet of their birds but the photos were extremely clear. I used Duck Egg Blue FS 35622 for the undersides because the photos indicated a very pale grey tint with a touch of blue. For the top sides, I used Tamiya JN Green XF-11 which was a dead on match for the pine green in the camo. The medium green is good old zinc chromate, Model Master 1734. For the tan I used Model Master Wood, 1735. I probably could have a gone a tad paler with the Model Master Wood, but it is a close match nonetheless. Not much weathering or fading as the planes appear to be very well maintained. Anyway hope this helps..... My way is not THE way.....just A way.

Best wishes, Ian

Well, I got the stickers on:

Then it was time for dullcote and fiddly bits:

And I'm calling her done. Note this is a real beast of an aircraft, almost as large as a 1/48 F-4 Phantom (which should tell you how huge Jessica's SuperJet is, since that's the same kit beside it, in the Revell rebox)

Note the date on my camera lies, those pictures were in fact taken late on January 31, 2013 EST, but the camera doesn't understand Daylight Savings time

Well actually the one beside my Superjet is Revell's 1/144 kit, but it's still pretty big. Here it is beside a 1/72 P-40.

So how big is a Superjet? Pretty darned big for a regional airliner. This view shows it facing off with a 737-500

Great work in the campaign everybody!!. The higher-ups at the Sukhoi Bureau will not be pleased that I came in over deadline and over budget. Anyway, my Frogfoot is done and posted in the gallery. The model features scratchbuilt intake and exhaust covers, scratchbuilt ejection seat details and Linden Hill Decals depicting a Frogfoot of the Air Force of Equatorial Guinea. All in all, an extremely enjoyable build and a reminder of why I love Monogram kits so much. The only down side is the that the Monogram kit does not have an air scoop on the base of the tail, something I did not catch until too late. But, I have another one in the stack.

Best wishes, everybody!

Ian

Okay folks, I am working on getting your ribbons awarded to you for your completed builds!! Those who are still building, sheepishly I am one of them, may continue to do so and can be awarded a ribbon upon completion of the build. Thank you all for your patience with me, since this is the first campaign I have been leader of and am sort of fumbling around in the dark sometimes! Everyone did a great job building their aircraft and I am grateful for everyone who gave me input. Thank you again, Russell

Just a reminder to all who have not finished, like me, lol, don't forget to put your photos up, at least two completed model photos in the gallery, in order for me to award you a ribbon. Thanks again, I am glad everyone had a good time with this campaign. Russell

I would like to announce that I will be awarding ribbons through the mid part of March, March 15th is the deadline I am, establishing for this campaign. That will give everyone including myself 6 more weeks roughly to complete the builds. I hope this will be sufficient for everyone. Take care, Russell

HAPPY DAY! HAPPY DAY!

The Don't-Fitter experineced a catastrophic wardrobe malfunction when I, in a fit of fumble-fingeredness, botched the application of the flare dispensers, which I had forgotten to attach PRIOR to painting said model.

So, the paint will be fixed and the model finished prior to the deadline...hopefully.

Beautiful Frogfoot Ian!!!!!!!

Beautiful Frogfoot, Ian. I have this kit in my stash and your build makes me want to start immediately

The markings are very cool. The finish with the clear black in the recessed lines looks very nice.

Thanks for sharing.
