Okay folks. We can get this one off the ground, a little late, but better than never!! I am going to build a Sukhoi 15 Flagon F, in 1/72 scale of course, my first Trumpeter kit that I will try too. I hope to see many faces join the campaign and remember, it's a hobby so have fun with it. Russell

Am beink building bolshoi Sukhoi: Superjet 100.

Here it is, the Sukhoi 15 Flagon. A beautiful aircraft, unfortunately it is the aircraft which, if you remember, back in 1983, shot down a Korean airlines 747 west of Sakhalin island.

I am not sure what colors I am going to put it in. I have seen some interesting color plates, not just natural metal, but various camouflage types, including a two tone blue camouflage which I am not sure is accurate or not.

Here is something I found, does anyone know if this camouflage job is accurate? I think it looks good. Wonder what blues to use on it if I do it? Thanks, Russell

This is going to be my entry into this group build, and my first ever Trumpeter kit, I've wanted to make a trumpeter kit ever since I first saw the lightning kits and heard how well made the kits are. I've checked some online reviews of the Flanker C kit and hope I can do it justice, I am also going to purchase some alclad paints which I have not used before, and plan on using alclad for the bare metal engine panels. Fingers crossed it all goes well!

P.S. I must admit, I really enjoy the different camouflage schemes that the Russians use on their aircraft, it makes for an interesting build.

A tiny bit of Mr Surfacer was necessary on the aft portion of the wing centre section.

Hi Julian, just go to the top of this threads page. It has an enlist here highlighted. Click that, your then in! Easy as pie. Russell

Look at Alan's post at the top of this page for the words "enlist here". That takes you to the Super Sokhois section of the campaign page. Then look over on the right side of the page for a list of all the people entered in the campaign. You should see a big ENLIST HERE button at the top of the list. Click that and you're in.

There is one nasty trick to watch for. Sometimes the forum software will randomly sign you out when you switch form page to page. Perhaps this is what happened. If you're signed out, you won't see that enlist button. So make sure you're signed in when you switch to the campaign page by checking for your name at the right-hand corner of the black bar at the top of your screen. You may need to scroll up to see if it's there

P.s. Just ordered the old Revell 1/48 Su-25a from a gentleman in Belgium. This would make a "poison frog" camo build possible after I finish the UB version.

August 14th update:
The fit of the parts is not Tamigawa quality. Lots of sanding and filling needed to get an acceptable result here, this is one of the engine pods:


Re-scribing is going to be necessary.

Slowly building up colours and washes for the cockpit panels etc. Takes time but avoids looking like someone barfed up a bag of M&M's all over the cockpit :

Russell: I am looking forward to seeing your "Flagon" build. Its a model I have often considered buying. Maybe you can convince me to go for it

Richard: Experiment on an old model with the Alclad before using on your build. It's great stuff to work with but it has some quirks.

The Superjet's primer coat reveals that there is no more need for filling. I'll just be letting that dry and I can get on to painting the colour coats.


Those outboard flap track fairings are not crooked by accident; they're moulded that way. There must be some really interesting local airflow on that portion of the wing.

Thanks Jessica, you did a great job getting rid of the joins on your Superjet, masking the cabin windows must be quite a chore.

I'm using decals so it's not an issue. Clear windows in 1/144 scale just don't look right to me.

I'm holding off on doing anything to my SU27ub yet as I've ordered some White Ensign Models paints for it, they are apparently colour matched to real sukhois, I've also found a russian company called 'AKAN' that provide colour matched acrylics, however it's hard to get in the UK and you can only really get them from Lindin Hill Imports, which is why I've gone with WEM paints instead. Once they land I can have a go at painting the cockpit in the unique turqoise colour that soviet jets get painted in!
