Much like landing a Stearman really, and here I speak from experience. At least with that B&V you would be a long way from the crash, the crew is sitting in the tail

At least with a Stearman you can look over the side. With this thing, if you nose over you'll just have a longer time to watch the ground come up to smack you (and no tail to help keep it away from your precious neck).

Now I have a question for everyone you used to be able to get strut material with an aerofoil shape from one of the various manufacturers but I forget whom.

John Adams from Aeroclub still makes the Contrail strut stock. His website closed a few years ago, but you can buy direct from him. He can be contacted through Britmodeller. His user name over there is John Aero.

Another alternative is to use brass tube and brass wire. Cut the tube to the desired length and run the wire through the tube so it sticks out both ends. Clamp it in a vise to crush it to an airfoil shape. Trim to fit and file the tube to refine the shape. The wire may be used to pin the struts into drilled holes.

Many thanks Jessica I've sent a message to John via the britmodeller website where I'm also a member. I'll let you know how things progress this should be large amounts of "fun"!

Warren, my vote is for the Curtiss Racer, with rigging, of course.

Good choice, Jessica. But if your doing the Matchbox kit, you may want to stock up on milliput.

And since we are doing pictures! My Tri-motor arrived in the mailbox today:

I've had a hard time with resin kits in the past, but, this one has me excited. It really does look like a fine offering. I may even take enough photos and do enough of a blog to write up a review. I like it that much.

For now, it remains in the baggies until start time arrives.

That is ONE weird looking plane utterly fantastic, really looking forward to that build

oh and while I think of it the B&V wont be that under powered as it has three 2 thousand horsepower BMW801D power eggs sitting at the business end. I agree though field of visibility would be nil!

Oh and I vote for the Curtiss as I want somebody else to deal with floats and rigging!

Dateline 3/19: First race entry update, In the lead is the Curtis racer rounding the outer pylon.

The engines in the box top picture are the same as those used on the Me-323 and Hs-129.. Well under 1000hp IIRC. But it is all irrelevent as it never flew.

It seems to fly quite well. Bur he cheated and added a central fin to his.
Wikipedia says the engines were supposed to be 3X BMW 801D of 1677 Hp each.

I'd say he's got an easier time arranging his weight distribution with that thing. Someone once told me that proving an airframe with a scaled flight is like proving you can land on the moon by throwing a rock at an overhead fan.

Well the minister for war and finance gave me one of our nation's unbelievably futuristic see-through plastic bills (the brown one!!) the other day to do with as I pleased. And then she was very cross when I did just that.

But no matter! I have now sourced my two kits. The jar will get no satisfaction from me.

So she provided the finance and then started the war, things really are the same the world over !

I'm learning again! You guys convinced me to check wikipedia to see what this plastic see-through money is. (I hadn't ventured into the "Great White North" since the early 1990's.) My country just redid their paper bills in recent memory-- we still aren't metric for gosh sakes-- so this plastic money used by Canada, Australia, Mexico, Vietnam and others is just facinating! (I don't know if it matters to be on topic with 3 months before the start.)
Anyway, my birthday's in June alongside Fathers Day, so I'm ordering my kit soon for this build, so the Mrs. can simply run down to the Hobby Shop and pick it up. We have an arrangement.
Cheers!

Hi Guys and Girls I've got my hands on both the 1/72nd and 1/48 scale Beech 18's and I've already got a 1/48th scale Otter but the 1/72 scale one is proving difficult to find anybody got a set of floats or an entire 1/72 Otter that I might purchase, beg, borrow or steal?

If you do Evil-bay there's one going for sale right now with about 19 hours left and the current bid is US$15.00

Hi Warren really not sure Lars just said 1/72nd scale otter floats so that's what I'm after. And as to the kit on Evilbay yes I'm already bidding on it but it may well go beyond my meager budget.

The Jar is listless. I fear it may go to armorama to sate its unquenchable thirst...

Got my Hobbyboss AH-64D for the "helofacopter" entry, but would still like to do one of the interesting fixed wing options on the list. Any chance I could get another? I think I have stuff already to cover just about anything still left open.
