Hey everyone,

I recieved the new Tamiya 1/72 scale A6M2b through the post the other day and thought I'd upload some pics of what you get.

http://smile.webshots.com/smiles/131a0f6fd510bf9afec014739237ba40f01d7d03fe1b594c7c92368adf8f0487

The kit break down is classic Tamiya with very precisely injected parts, there is very good detail throughout;

There are detailed instructions and a history pamphlet as well showing the various differences between the different versions and a general wrtiien history of the type.

Decals look good and in register;

All in all a very good kit, there are some ejector pin marks on the inside of the fuselage and wings but crucially they go round any area with detail, some will require filling and sanding to hide them but they are well placed to be done without damaging any detail, this to me shows thoughtful planning for the modeller.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Pic's, I'm not the best photographer, that's my father's area of interest, maybe I'll ask him to take the pictures next time, but I think they will give you a general feel for the kit.

Hi folks. My kit arrived today, having travelled around the globe from an eBay vendor in Poland (appropriately), and after being roundly chastised by the minister for war and finance I excitedly opened up the box.

The contents look good, 2 main sprues, 2 smaller sprues, a single A4 sheet folded for instructions and markings, and a small frame of PE

but unfortunately there is a piece missing from one of the sprues, circled in red here . . .

The sprues were still sealed in their original plastic, so this is not the fault of the vendor, but another part (the seat) was loose in the bag having broken from the sprue at some stage. The missing part is quite large, being the same as the other engine cowl part just below the red oval, so I would certainly have noticed it if it was loose in the bag.

I am planning to do an in-box and build review of this kit, I don't believe that we have one here on Aeroscale, so I will email Mirage Hobby marketing department and test out their customer service levels.

Cheers, D

Update time folks. I emailed the marketing department at Mirage Hobbies several times and not even getting an acknowledgement, I sent the same email to a couple of other addresses at Mirage, several times. Again, not even so much as a simple acknowledgement, let alone any form of solution.
As a last resort, I emailed the eBay vendor who supplied the kit and outlined the problem. Not only did he maintain constant contact with me keeping me updated of his endeavours, but the replacement parts arrived today via urgent airmail!
Mirage Hobbies, lift your game!
EBay vendor, awesome backup service, you will certainly have more business from me!
Now that I have a complete kit, I will get to work on an in-box review, and a build review to follow the Campaign.

Cheers, D

Apparantly, the makers Customer Service Dept is only a 'mirage'.
But I don't see any of their kits in my stash, either. Think I'll keep it that way.

Don't get me wrong Ben, the contents of the kit look very nice indeed and I am really looking forward to building it. I am just disappointed that I didn't get a simple acknowledgement from the manufacturer, even when I explained that I was a staff member here on Kitmaker and that the kit would be subject to an in-box review, a build review, and part of a unique group build. I pointed out that this would give their company and this kit quite a lot of exposure, but still no reply. Perhaps nobody in the Mirage Hobbies marketing department speaks Australian

The Mason Jar of Doom has found its niche here, methinks it will be called upon to torture many a foolhardy soul in future Group Builds

I am slightly suspicious though, nobody seems to have sighted this "Jar" yet. Richard, help us out here, does it resemble a large red wine glass, or perhaps a nice crystal whisky tumbler?

Cheers, D

It's not so auspicious looking Damian. Maybe I should paint it up to look like the necronomicon??

I hope the last two victims saw their lots... Particularly JollyRoger, I was eager to see what would come out of the woodwork on that lot...

I know I'm sweating my dart. It's just so darn huge! I may have to contrive a new display area.

Oh, it's not really that huge. Look, it hardly covers half the top of my Nimrod box I use as a photo stage.

Even with its new friend it doesn't take up all the available space.

I'm yet to order the models, does anyone know any WNW dealers in Europe? If not, is service directly from them ok?

Kind regards.

The only place you can buy a WNW kit is directly from their website. They have a fantastic record of customer service so you can feel confident about ordering from them.

Well actually Jessica there are a few places in Japan where you can buy WNW kits, for example Hobby Link Japan (hlj.com). But WNW include postage in their price so compare first.

Hi Guys half of my build has turned up the Encore model 18/C45 looks to be quite a nice kit with plenty of room to add detail even with the resin detail provided! And the resin does look really nice I also picked up the Me328 pulse jet luft 46 subject. Again it has lots of nice resin with mistel mounts if you want to build it as a parasite fighter.

I built the basic PM kit many years ago. It's got much better shapes than the Hobbycrap kit, but I wasn't too impressed by the panel trenches. If they're still canyons you may wish to consider investing in some Mr. Surfacer. I really like all the resin bits. Would you consider doing an in-box review for us?

Sven, Hannants have a limited stock of WNW kits but watch the prices, they use a 1 - 1 exchange rate.

Since WNW offers free shipping, I think I will place my order there when I get the money.

Hi Jess I'd be delighted to provide an in box review for our members. I'll be doing a build log as well as I've not seen any (so far) for this kit. The resin parts have a lovely level of detail for 1/72 and will lift the kit's detail immensely. The panel lines are still trenches however I'm not particularly bothered by them. I will use Vallejo black sanding primer on the kit to see if it'll "soften" the starkness of the panel lines though. I've used it on my Blackwidow build and once fully cured after about 24 hours or so it's very durable. It should help soften the panels lines appreciably.

What the heck...
A project window just opened up.
Let the jar speak to me one more time!
Humbly awaiting my faith to reveal itself.

PS.: Another idea I had for the next time 'round:
"UNwind!" - Relax while building any aircraft in United Nations Service and Livery.

The mountains grow taller. The valleys deeper, and winters colder.

The Jar of Doom wakes from its slumber.

Herr Hopp, your lot is...

#50, HinomarYOU!. You'll be seeing spots AND seeing red as you build any aircraft belonging to the JSDF or Imperial Japanese forces!

Good one!
That is as far outside of my comfort zone as it gets. I think I'll actually have to buy a kit for that! (Didn't see, but had it coming!)
Time to shop!

A hoary goat sings a coarse-throated song. Dogs and seals switch places for a week.

It must be the Jar of Doom.

Sven, your second lot is...

#49: "Fix it again Tony!" Spaghetti and red wine for dinner, maybe some nice gelato for dessert. A cappucino wouldn't hurt. Because you are venturing into the wild world of Italian Airframes! Fiat, Macchi, Savoia Marchetti, CANT, Reggiane, Caproni, Augusta, Breda, Piaggio. A nation that was once teeming with aircraft firms, and you must select but one. Take heed that airframes powered by non-italian engines are permitted. But multinational birds are not. So no AW-101's, or Panavias.

I'm glad you got this Sven. I've always loved the quirky Italian stuff and I bet you'll do it justice. If you want to impress me thoroughly tackle the dreaded smoke-ring camoflauge!

What's this?? Phillipus has enlisted!

The Jar of Doom sees all.

Phillipus, your lot is...

#43: "Spit and tissue paper." Ohhh boy. I should say this may be the most difficult one I put in. You have to build any PRE-WW1, heavier than air aircraft.

That is a challenge...

Just one question before I start searching, does it have to bi in Italian livery or can it be a foreign one?

Nope, the rule just said Italian designed and built. Surprise us!
