@ Mark: I bet you are going to have fun with those missiles

@ Andrew: Welcome aboard, I am sure you either will find something that does the job or just make it your self. How does the Hobby Boss kit stack up to the Eduard?

Thanks Bob.

I know I can find something from the spares box for the tail wheel that's not an issue. As for HB vs Eduard I have no doubt the Eduard is the better kit. This one has the option to be built with wings folded and I have a feeling from the fit with the wings out, it by default was designed to be built folded. Thats why I shelved it, having trouble getting the wings to mesh right just frustrated me no ends. To be honest though the rest of the kit went together great. Cockpit detail was ok.

I don't think the missiles will be the big problem, but the launcher rails are in the process of being rebuilt. The actuator arms all popped off of the launchers and have to be glued back on,

Well got a little work done tonight and happy with where is going

Started off by breaking out the super glue and zip kicker got the wing joins about 98% right. Sanded down the fuselage seam and wing joins then gave a light coat of paint along the sanded area to make sure it was right then puttied the area needing attention. Sanded that back when dry, masked off and re-puttied final area waiting for sanding again.

@ Andrew: I just noticed the exhaust collector ring, that is pretty neat. Thanks for the kit comparison.

@ Mark: The problems that you and Andrew are having is the reason why I shelve a kit until I regain the urge to build at times.

Well, as a kit, it may date from the dawn of history, Frog and Hasegaws back in the 60's? As a build, I'm what, 6 months, a year after the end of Delta Dawn, when I started it...

The actuators are a butt joint to pins on the actuator. Not a lot of space for the glue to do it's magic. I may have to clamp them in place and then add the glue....

Hi all,

Now that a got a camera again, let me bore you a bit more with some photos of my 2nd Hangar beauty of this campaign.

This one is the Tamiya bf.109 that has been collecting dust for quite some time now.

This new camera has a far better zoom, so the dust is clearly seen on the pics

Did some minor repairs and touch ups, and ended the half done pre shade
job started 2 or 3 years ago

also made a simple rivet job on the fuselage, nothing too serious or exhaustive and added a missing panel line just below the end of the canopy hinge (oddly i checked the Airfix emil and it also misses the same panel line... can my sources be wrong i wonder)

a view of the underside

i hope to have this chap done in a few weeks work.

By the way I've tried to upload some photos of my first HQ job, the Ju88, but somehow no photos are uploaded despite a contrary information from the site...any idea what i might be doing wrong there?

Thanks
Pedro

Hi Bob,

The purple stuff covering the wheel wells is my homemade favourite mask for this sort of things- Humbrol Maskol splashed over plain toillet paper carefully punched inside the wells.

Got a samsung pocket camera that comes with a much better zoom than my previous & awol camera. It's no professional tool but it sure delivers details that are unsuspect to my naked eye. Not sure if this is a good thing though

Cheers

@ Pedro: I like your masking technique, I tried using toilet paper in the past (20 years ago) with varying results I will have to try the masking solution. As for the camera just remember you look 10 lbs. heavier

Bob, I said that the kit was from the 60's, not me.

I am a bit hazy on the actual origin of the kit, was it built by Hasegawa under contract to Frog, or did Hasegawa pick up this mold (along with a lot of other jets) when Frog went under?

Pedro nice 109. I tried building the same kit about 3 or 4 years back until I have major problems with its paint work. I stripped it back 3 times and it still wouldn't adhere properly, then getting up one day I found it sitting on the floor damaged. So I junked the kit and the cockpit got donated to a Fw-190 Egg plane (Which made it look fab IMO).
I hope yours fairs better than mine.

Well back to my Hellcat been working consistently (not constantly). Have the Cowling on the engine flaps etc attached, happy with the wing join. Ready for a trip to painters..

So it's a plane.. AI controlled from the Anime Superslyph Yukikaze, sort of human Air Force vs aliens over Antarctica kind of thing, if I remember right.
This thing is 5+yrs old and has the worst decals ever, it's sat in a box since I got it built.

A quick coat of paint this weekend, and the thickest, least conforming decals ever (curse you Bandai..) now a blast of clear gloss and it's ready for some panel fading, a few tiny chips and might even make it to the table at Cranitecon next weekend.

The center section needs the clear seeker head or whatever.

Greetings All,

Some very good subjects being added here.

As I have been MIA over the past 1/2 of the year, I struck o problem with the F-111 that I was hoping to finish for this campaign. Maybe I can restart it during H.Q. IV

But have gone back to one of the two PBY-5a's that I have had laying around and hope this would be allowed.

This is where the subject stopped when I first started on it.

@ Mike: that looks verrrrrry interesting I personally would like to see it finished.

@ Rob: welcome back and maybe you will finish it this time.

I may be taking on too much, but these three have been sitting around far too long.

The first thing to do will be to get a preliminary coat of silver on and see what's what.

Hello,

Jessie nice collection of ponys there how was the F-82 to build? Everyone that I either know or read about had many problems with that kit.

Jessica, is that 72 scale, the F-82. I built the Revell one in that scale and had to cobble together decals from 3, yes 3 different F-82's to get one finished!

P.S. The kit was so so!

Compared to some of the comments I've heard, that's high praise.

It's the Modelcraft 1/48 kit, about which many tales of horror and despondency are told around late-night IPMS gathering fires.

If I didn't have so much experience with limited-run kits which fight back, I'd have given up long ago.

I think I have the RoG 1/72 F-82G in the stash somewhere. Is that the same one, just reboxed?

This kit is unique (well, apart from the -B and -G that Modelcraft also put out). They're the only 1/48 F-82s around so if you want one, it's this or nothing. Here's a build on another forum which illustrates the frustrations inherent in doing this kit.

The Revell Germany kit is the old Monogram kit reboxed. It's light years ahead of this beast. Even the Hobbycraft knock-off of the Monogram kit is better.

Thanks, but I try to avoid 1/48 scale kits.
