I must give a HUGE thanks to all who have contributed to this Campaign with builds (completed or not), information and input, I have really enjoyed running the show. I will award the ribbons to those folks as soon as the Campaign page is updated. Michael(Satin) thanks for your help along the way.
Special mention and commiseration to Magnus, I was really liking your build until it went awry my friend.
For those who wish to join me, I will continue to post in this thread with progress on my build until I get it finished. I would love to see a few more builds escape the dreaded Hangar Queen Shelf of Doom.
Thanks again, see you all soon.
Cheers, D

Well better late than never I guess! New job has me pretty worn out most nights and my modelling suffers accordingly. So I managed to get to the bench and actually achieve something today. I'm calling this one done. My thanks to Damian and the rest of the admin crew for a great campaign and to you my fellow modellers you are always a constant source of inspiration to me.
I went for a factory fresh delivery with light minimal weathering dirtying up the paint work a little which the flash seems to have happily washed out. This was an awesome wee kit with NO putty .... yes that's right NO putty this would be a first for me!
And Damian it's a Me262B-1a
@Keith:- This is the Hasegawa 1/72 Me262B-1a kit which can be built as either B-1a/U1 Nightfighter or as a B-1a trainer (the option I chose as every man and his dog wanted to to do the Nightfighter version LOL)

Hi Keith I replied in my original post and then thought you might not see it LOL. I replied:-

My thanks for your generous praise regarding the Camo on my B-1a I have to admit I really like the Luftwaffe mottle and splinter camo. The late war stuff really has a great variation and is open to "poetic" license and that provides for a great palette of possible colors.
And your cockpit tub is a work of art I like the subtle weathering you've applied. were the instrument bezels hand painted or photo etch?

hey... I resemble that remark..
It's quite a nice kit and the options make it all the more interesting. I went nightfighter to practice those mottles/squiggles for other builds. But, yea, guilty as charged.
Marcus, I did not forget your generosity with the U4 conversion. AMPSEast/Armorcon is next weekend, and my T62 (only in-progress for cough cough 20 yrs) is 99% done, plus any last minute details already overlooked for two decades.
It's next on the bench after that. Going into the next Luft46 campaign, I already forgot the name of.. oops.
Thanks for running this campaign, it was a blast!

A little more progress on my build, fuselage assembled.
Fit is ok, very tight so I had to glue this in stages over several nights with plenty of tape and clamping. Some seams to clean up and a slight gap behind the second seat to fill and touch up. I will also do some more detail painting to dull down the belts and highlight some raised features.
I put 30 grams of weight in just forward of the IP bulkhead, fingers crossed we sit properly!
Wings and powerplants assembled next update.
Cheers, D

Damian, this looks very good so far - nice to see the campaign leader's progress
30 grams should be enough ... maybe

Looking good Damian! I especially like the soft filter you've used on the pics ..... makes me feel all nostalgic! (LOL) Cold room warm Camera or vice versa? If the weight isn't enough you can always pack out the very front of the engine nacelles it's what I did to get the Tigercat to sit properly.

Thanks guys.
Photos were taken with my iPad, I've been out of town for work all week and took a very basic tool set with me, that's why they are a bit fuzzy.
Cheers, D

@Chris--1/72! That makes your paint job even more impressive. Thanks for the kind word on my cockpit--the instruments are actually the kit decals on the plastic control panel. Lucky for me they lined up perfectly.
@Damian--I'm right behind you. Got my fuselage together. That is a major milestone for me.

No progress, just an interesting anniversary to observe.
http://ww2db.com/aircraft_spec.php?aircraft_model_id=17
3 Oct 1944 The first Messerschmitt Me 262 fighter unit was established at Achmer and Hesepe near Osnabrück, Germany under the command of Austrian-born ace Major Walter Nowotny. The unit had 30 aircraft distributed among two squadrons and was given the task of intercepting USAAF day bomber raids on the heart of Germany.

@Damian--very interesting anniversary. I had family living in Osnabruck and nearby Bielefeld back in the '80s. The family doctor was an ex Luftwaffe flight surgeon who owned a small plane. He took me up once and we flew over the base. He pointed out bomb craters in the fields around the flightline and runways left over from WWII. I'll have to dig out the pictures.
Call me weird, but I decided to close up the gun bay and display the cannons separately. I've always loved the -262 design and want to display it with the shape and lines clean.
Added some styrene strips for support:
Nose pieces installed. Not too happy with the fit, but there are issues with the fuselage also. Also installed some added weight in case the lack of guns makes a difference.
The gun bay coming along. Needs some touch up and a few more pieces.

@Damian--well I found a few, but they're pretty crappie. This was circa 1979 - 1981, and were taken with a Kodak (anyone remember them?) 110 instamatic (anyone remember those?).
Those look to be F-4s on the tarmac. We were in a Cessna 172 I think. Can't see ant craters in the pic, they were all overgrown with grass anyway.
A few more shots from the flight:
Blurry 'Check 6' and even blurrier countryside.
