Great photos Keith, and great memories for you I'm sure. Thanks for posting them here.

We're not quite dead, yet! I am still tinkering with my Schwalbe build as well, nothing tangible to show just yet.

Cheers, D

How long before Schwalbe II? Lol

I'm in!

If we get enough interest and schedule "Schwalbe 2.0" for 2017 I might even have my "Schwalbe 1.0" build close to completed !

I don't think support should be a problem.

Damian, this is too funny--seeing life in this thread was enough to inspire me to get back on my build also:

Wing halves glued together, more sanding, and the fuselage dryfit, all in two days!

Any chance of modifying the rules to allow previously started 262's in vers 2.0?
Seems like there are several works (still) in progress that could be part of the second run of the campaign and not have to be used for Hangar Queen 47.

Still plodding along folks, a bit of seam work and some gap filling to be done but it is starting to look like a Schwalbe!

Cheers, D

Edit: it looks like we have quite a few Schwalbe-o-Philes lining up for a second Group Build so I might just see if we can re-open the discussion thread for this one and continue it as a lead in for the next.

Stay tuned folks, more news at 11 😉

Damian,

Just bumped into this thread again today....thought the schwalbe had ended on New Year's Eve?!

Since I miserably failed to engage the campaign then, perhaps this time life manages to provide me a bit of spare time and finish at least 1 bird.

What say thy?

Cheers

Hi Pedro.

Like you, I failed miserably on this build during the Campaign time frame, but I am determined to get this build finished and thought that this was a good place to keep it in the public domain!

The law of unintended consequences has kicked in and it looks like "Schwalbe 2.0" is now inevitable, not that I have any problem with that 😜

@Pedro--Yeah, there's at least two of us rebels still working on our builds even though the campaign has ended. Feel free to join us!

@Damian--My Swallow is on hold again. I'm currently in Thailand and won't return to the States until...late March!

@Damian--very interesting anniversary. I had family living in Osnabruck and nearby Bielefeld back in the '80s. The family doctor was an ex Luftwaffe flight surgeon who owned a small plane. He took me up once and we flew over the base. He pointed out bomb craters in the fields around the flightline and runways left over from WWII. I'll have to dig out the pictures.

Call me weird, but I decided to close up the gun bay and display the cannons separately. I've always loved the -262 design and want to display it with the shape and lines clean.

Added some styrene strips for support:

Nose pieces installed. Not too happy with the fit, but there are issues with the fuselage also. Also installed some added weight in case the lack of guns makes a difference.

The gun bay coming along. Needs some touch up and a few more pieces.

Keith

i agree keith. i had issues closing up the fuselage on my hobbyboss kit too. i had to narrow the cockpit and gunbay bulkheads as well as the gun platform and it still didn't fit right. never could tell exactly what was in the way.

@Joe--Ah, so it wasn't just me! I made sure to secure the wing to the fuselage with some major clampage and left it that way for a few days to dry. No wonder it takes me 18 months to finish a kit.

A minor yet major step done!

My build is till sitting on the side of the bench glaring at me every time I pick up something else.

I am thinking Schwlabe II might be on for early 2017 and we should allow continuation of unfinished builds for Schwalbe I (as has been suggested by others here).

Great to see you still ambling along Keith, like mine, your build will get on the display shelf someday!

To quote Pink Floyd: Is there anybody out there?!...

Posting to an abandoned thread in a long ago completed campaign is much like walking through a ghost town...kinda surreal.

I'm still plugging away at this build. Finished the airframe assembly, puttied & sanded, and airbrushed the lower surface. Also worked the landing gear adding brake lines and placard decals from the stash.

Just wandering aimlessly around the site and found this one again, how is your build progressing Keith? Mine has completely stalled while I get my 56th P-47 done, but it is the first thing on the list for my "Year of Unfinished Business - 2017" which includes waaaaay to many aircraft and cars and ships to count here.

The prospect of "Schwalbe II" is still on my mind but I have promised myself a year off participating in Campaigns for 2017. Real life has stymied me on 9/10 attempts recently.

I suppose it is an option to lead the Campaign but not participate, as I did with the WWII Twins recently. . . . . hmmmmm.

Cheers, D
