Oliver, one kit at a time is the better way to build. But I have retired and there are so many airplanes that I want to build and the desk is open. So! I started (7) campaign builds

I build on a kit then when it is time for some item to dry from glue or paint I then put it in a box and pull out one of the other kits.

Crazy. Huh!

Bob

Maybe crazy, but not unusual in this hobby.

I cleared my bench and was determined that I wouldn't start another campaign build till I finish both my Aussie eight Spitfires. Finished one for the CBI campaign and have just started decals for this one, but I just couldn't help myself and broke open the kit for the artillery campaign which already is built and primed, and I made a start on my build for the unfinished build campaign.

I just received my glasses from the VA and it only took a year. I have two pair, reading and distance. Boy! have I been missing a lot. I can now see to paint detail like on the instrument panel and any others. WOW!

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Mike: nice to see you back on work. Well done with those exhausts although they will be hardly seen when installed.

Bob: very good progress (as all your other builds are! )

Since I was sure to be on the final stage I had to admit that the landing gear and retracting mechanism was very time consuming. It is very difficult to find the symmetric correct angle forward and inboard and than fixing another 2 separte parts to the oleos.
So it has to be done in 2 steps and a day later. You cannot find any referance point for the angles and the fixing point inside the wheel wells lesds wrong. So it's important to adjust your eyeball 2.0. When glueing the way the instruction says the whole a/c stands up way too straight and tiptoe.
This assembly really needs patience as the complete look depends on that.
This is my first Fw190(!) ever so I did not dealt with that issue before. I'm sure the most of you are aware of that.

Also added hypodermic needles to complete the MG's.

Thomas

edit: despite the inboard angle the tyres have to be straight downward touching full and not only the outer tread sides.

Nice job Thomas the 190 is really taking shape. What colors/paint are you using on the exterior?

Aaaaaand I'm done! I've said it before but I'll keep saying it "I love what Airfix is doing with their new release kits"! This Blenheim MkIVF is just the shiz! Great detail for 1/72nd, outstanding engineering, great fit and fantastic decals.

Take a look for yourselves.

Very nice work, Chris and Thomas! Beautiful stuff.

Here's where I am on my 1/32 Tamiya P-51:

The gun bays will stay closed but the landing gear will be down, I just have the "closed" cover Tamiya so thoughtfully provides on as a painting aid when the time comes.

@Chris: the Blenheim is a stunner especially with the gray panel lines.

@Michael: Another LARGE scale airplane that I could not even store the box in my apt. That painting cover for the LG is a nice touch.

After partly drifting down the path of painting the wrong colour scheme, I am back on track and in the process of decals

Michael, Bob, Clayton and Jose my thanks gentlemen for the kind appreciation of the the Blenheim. I fell in love with this particular plane as a youngster when I built Airfix's original release and this one is light years ahead of it's older sibling.

@Thomas:- Loving the Fw190! I built this kit and painted it per the instructions without realizing how wrong it was. You're doing outstanding work buddy.

@Michael:- Love the work so far on the P-51! It's a wonderfully engineered kit that you're doing great work with.

@Bob:- Awesome work with the P-51 so far, keep up the great work. The canons would've made it a great ground attack aircraft (A-36 Apache) although in a dog fight below 15000ft (Allison engine) it would've been a killer with that firepower.

@Jose:- Whose Fw200 is it Jose? Revells old mould? And are the engines aftermarket as the cowls appear to be a different colour? Loving it so far keep it up.

Hi all,

As usual, some really great builds going on here! Chris, I really like the grey panel lines. I know that my skills have dramatically improved over the past couple of years just getting more fresh ideas from all of you, thanks!

I just got back from seeing the Mrs. in Malaysia, I wanted to jump into this one earlier, but now is better than never. I'll be doing Academy's P-38 rendered as a F-5E.

Gave it a test fit, and overall it's not bad. I foresee some fit issues with the starboard boom/wing join though, and got to protect the mast up front...

Now time for a bath and some initial painting.

More to follow soon!

@Chris,

Is the Trumpeter model with the Revell engines. I have the two kits, but the Revell model is better than the Trumpy

John, what are you impressions or comparisons of the Academy over the Minicraft P-38 kits?

Hey Bob,
Sorry, I've not seen the Minicraft P-38, so can't compare it. I do have a few Hasegawa P-38's and can say it compares fairly well with it. Panel lines are a bit softer, but the fit looks better. Kind of a hair splitter.

Personally, I tend to shy away from Minicraft following my Cessna 150 experience. Worst fitting kit I've done, especially the glass. Though to be fair I think they got the molds from Entex. My lesson on that one was never buy a kit for the decals. Granted the Cartograph decals were pretty nice and after all the fussing I have a model of a Cessna 150, just don't get too close!

Jose, I'm liking the Condor. Hope you got the clear worked out for this one.

Joe, I really liked your P-40. It motivated me to dust off an area of my stash and look into my aftermarket box! While it may be a simple build I like the camo on the box. How are you planning to paint it?

More excellent work here!

Some progress on the Tamiya 1/32 P-51D. Just about ready for paint:

I'm also working on an Eduard Mirage IIICJ for the Six Day War Campaign that, of course, needs to be bare metal as well. I'm planning to wait and paint them at the same time.

john i plan to paint it like the box art. it call for extra dark sea grey and slate. i found a formula for the sea grey but don't have the paints so i may just whip something up. i'm thinking of using rlm 74 and darken it up to get close. i seen some use olive drab for the slate.
so far i have the fuselage and wings glued together.

Ive taped the canopy and tested the colors for the RAF scheme of the Mustang on my Airfix Hurricane.

I use Tamiya paints and am doing the AeroMaster Decals Early Mustangs 48-106. FD472 which calls for Dark Green, Ocean Gray, and Sea Gray. The Dark Green is causing my second thoughts, Ipms Stockholm shows that XF27 Black Green is the correct color but I'm not sure. What are your opinions?
