@Thomas: I used Testor's Clear Parts Cement for the IP glass. It is my go to for that type of thing, I like that it leaves a thicker result than using a clear gloss. It gives a better impression of glass to me. Mix it with a little food coloring and it makes great colored glass for ID lights!

Nice work, everyone. I love that Ken's doing a figure!
I'm really struggling with modeler's block and am actually thinking of doing a tank. I have three Dragon Shermans that would fit the bill: the M4 composite, M4A2 Tarawa, and M4A2 late. Guess we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Progress is slow but stead. The cockpit is closed up and I've formed a plan and started on the engine. I'm going to be experimenting with techniques that are new and foreign to me.
I was frustrated to find that the cockpit floor was warped. I only found out after it was painted, because you couldn't dry-fit these components - believe me, I tried.
I'm betting the farm on being able to get them to bend inwards when sandwiched between the fuselage halves.
The entire assembly is about as sturdy as a Jenga tower in a hurricane.
And here is the very beginning of the very impressive Brassin powerplant. lining everything up is going to be as much fun as removing a catheter, but the fit of the engine casing to the crankcase and exhast collector is fantastic, and it slots neatly into the firewall of the kit. It's mostly the finicky exhaust that gives me pause for concern.
Back to the bench I go!

That looks like it will be a very fun build Mike.

My submission for the PTO campaign will be....
The Tamiya 1/48 P-51D mustang in the markings of the 47th FS, 15th FG flying VLR (very long range) bomber escort missions from Iwo Jima. In particular "Lil Butch"
With the Airfix mustang just about here and apparently an Eduard mustang on the horizon, I figure I should get at least one of the Tamiya kits built! Several resin bits on hand and others to be raided and traded from other kits in the stash. Only one Im using for sure is the lone star models VLR drop tanks.

Very nice work on the pit Mike. The PE looks great and a does the painting.

A bit of cockpit work.
The Eduard instructions show their age; poorly defined placement diagrams. I "think" the controls are where their supposed to be - or at least close. I'm content.
Tamiya IJN Cockpit color.

I have been steadily working on the Dauntless. The wings and empennage are complete. The wings needed a bit of filling, but nothing dramatic. The horizontal stabilizers had significant steps on the upper surface, and try as I might, I could not figure out a way to remove our reduce them. A lot of puttying and sanding followed, but I think I got the shapes of the curvature right.
I opted to show the dive brakes in the stowed condition and had to modify a few of the parts to get them to fit and have a stable footprint. I still have do some clean up work on them, but I am generally satisfied with how they look and fit.

WIP update, finished assembly and gave it a primer coat. The person who did the sculpting did not give enough difference between right and left boots, l tried a little sanding to his left one. Other than that this looks like it should turn out ok still doing research on bomb and cart to hopefully add to the base

Stormy in Bavaria today, so I managed to spend a good deal; of time at the bench. I worked on several small subassemblies, preparing them for painting - I opted not to take any photos of those as they just aren't that exciting to look at at this stage. The air brakes are done and the engine is in place. I tested fitted the rear engine panels, you can see them as the white parts in the photos. The fit is not perfect, but it is not bad either. I should only need to use a small amount of putty.

Thanks Matt. I still need to weather the engine and then install the cowl, which dry fitting showed will need a bit of persuading to get positioned correctly, should be fun times.

Top coat of IJA Dark Green is on. Some clean-up will be needed by the edges - no big deal.

And the circle is now complete. Tamiya's Corsairs in 1/72, 48, and 32nd scale. I think one of these might have to go on the bench very soon...

TOP work here, guys!
Your kits are really coming to life. And nice to see a figure build too - Ken, please post some progress pics and infos how you paint it.
Mike, good build and a neat paint job so far.
Matt, nice work on the pit and engine. Sorry for the issues, hope you can manage.
Ernest, that one is coming along beatiful. The dive brakes are nice.
Michael, already decided what kit you will go for? That is really a cool collection of Corsairs what makes it difficult.
Thomas

And now at least a lifesign. Beside my Mirage build I managed to grab the cockpit of the Zero, primed it and gave a first coat of a green-mix-japanese interior color (?).
Also drilled out the holes of the seat, that came massive molded and thinned it a bit.

Very nice start on the Zero Thomas. Your paint job looks very cleanly applied.
Michael, I have Tamiya's F4U-1A in 1/32 with some AM stuff. I really enjoyed building their A6M2b Zero in that scale, so I am sure this kit will also be very nice.

Ernest,
The F4U may be their best, I've already built the -1A and it was great, though time consuming due to the complexity. Highly recommended!

Airbrushed the base coat on the build today. I used MRP Paint for the first time and I was impressed with how it sprayed. It is so smooth that after buffing I might nor need to spray a gloss coat, the paint is semi-gloss, before I decal the model. I sprayed the Blue-Grey in such a way that it has a very subtle highlight and shadow effect that does not show up well in the bench photos below. But I think it will be a good base for additional highlighting, fading, etc. after I put the decals on. Of course I'll to do the inevitable touch ups before decaling begins - maybe someday, I'll be able to spray an aircraft without needing any touching up afterwards; probably have a better chance hitting the lottery though!

Well, Trumpeter's decals are causing a bit of a work stoppage on the build. Unfortunately the ones in this kit disintegrate after a second or two in water. I ordered a set of decals from Fine Art of Decals, and I hope Dave Klaus ships them quickly - might be some wishful thinking on my part. Not much else I can do until the decals arrive so I will have fun watching your guy's builds for the next couple of weeks at least.
