Welcome to the Pacific Theater of Operations Campaign! The is the third in a series of campaigns that will highlight the different theaters of operations in WWII to remember the 75th anniversary of the war. The CBI and Western Front/ETO Campaigns are already complete.

This campaign will run from 1 October, 2017 through 1 April, 2018.

Okay, so this is my first campaign.

How does this work;

Do people simply post their progress photos in this thread or a separate build thread? I'll likely create a blog anyway, but I want to know if I'm supposed to cross post.

Really, your first campaign? Cool! Here's the score: once you've signed up, you should post a start photo here and a couple (at least) of in-progress shots as you go along. Typically, when finished, people post a couple of completed shots here and a few more in the gallery. If you want to do a separate blog that's perfectly fine, I'd just ask that you still post a least a few in-progress shots here with a link to your blog if folks want to see more. Hope that answers your questions and welcome aboard our campaign!

Well folks, here we go - my first campaign!

I'm using the under 25% completion exemption. In fact, I stopped this build just so I could join this campaign. (I have never joined one before because the timeline has never worked out or I didn't think I would have time to complete a build within the timeline.) I have painted most of the cockpit and assembled some of it. Well under 25%



I'm building Tamiya's sublime 1/32nd scale F4U-1A

I've added the (am adding) the Brassin F4U Cockpit and Engine.

I'll be using Radu's USN harness

And last, but certainly not least - Masks made by your friend and mine, Mal Mayfield of Miracle Mask fame. (Thanks for cutting them Mal.)


I apologize for the quality of the photos. I don't own a macro lens (despite the number of blogs I have written) and I also use my Blackberry from time to time (for ease of use, it's paired with photobucket and uploads to my computer within minutes of being taken. No pesky file transfers.)



The detail of the Brassin sets is PHENOMENAL! I have never seen better or molding (printing?) so crisp. I have come to learn, however, that the instructions can Dragon you a bit and some of the fit can be challenging.







A full cowling and cowl flaps are included in the engine set. Exquisite detail.













And we're off to the races. I'll be starting a build log at some point soon as well and I'll x-post.

Matt. welcome aboard I also cannot wait to see this Hog in 1/32 being built. You and Michael will have some company in that EXTRA large scale. The secret to the time frame is not to worry about it, just enjoy your build and please post those photos for us all to enjoy.

And here's start picture of my build:



It's HK Model's B-25 with PBJ-1H conversion kit (resin radar pod, some details and decals), metal gun barrels (I'll need 6-8) and Eduard cockpit PE and seat belts. I hope it turns out well, initially I'm worried about parts fit. I have no idea how good (or bad) the HK Models kits are.

Like Matt I am entering a model in this campaign that I have just started working on. In my case it is Trumpeter's SBD 1/2 Dauntless Dive Bomber in 1/32 scale. I have built the engine and firewall, I made some ignition wires out of copper wire and added some spark plug casings to the front of each cylinder using pieces I cut from a hollow brass rod. I painted the engine and fire wall with various Alclad II colors. That is probably going to be the extent of the superdetailing with this build. As the first picture shows, I plan to use some HGW seatbelts and these are the only aftermarket items I am going to use.

I received the Tamiya J2M3 I'm doing for this. Mercifully nobody makes AM for it so a real two-sprue shake'n'bake. I will post start pics as soon as I wrap my current build.

Really looking forward to seeing some of these 1/32 builds.

I'm really liking the looks of how this campaign is starting off! I, however, have run into a problem. I know I told you all that I was planning to do the Trumpeter 1/32 F6F-5 as Minsi III, but that was before this little gem hit the stores:



Now, those who know me know that I'm a sucker for these Duel books, and it just so happens that this guy has been sitting around in my stash for awhile now:



What with the newest release from our friends at Tamiya winging its way to me as we speak and, well... let's just say I'm having a hard time deciding.

The interior sub-assemblies have been built and primed. I opted to use black primer to provide some contrast when I spray the Interior Green. Thus far the build had been problem free, but I have built a few items that will not be seen when the fuselage is closed up, something I don't normally do. Also, test fitting shows that a lot of the details will be swallowed up when the fuselage is put together. Given that fact, I am going to keep weathering to a minimum - I normally do some fading to the paint in certain areas to provide some contrast - but most of that work will be hidden when I close up the pit. So I think I'll concentrate most of my weathering efforts on the upper parts of the cockpit.

Note: I have already sprayed the interior green, but forgot to take a picture of the parts laid out. I'll add one in my next post.

Vielen Dank Oliver! I considered adding more detail to the engine, but as most of it will be hidden when the cowling is in place, I opted not to. This is a very nice build thus far, and I hope it continues to be so.

Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1D Corsair

I thought I would jump in with an easy build so I might actually finish the campaign. I have been cleaning up a few hanger queens from the bench but I should be able to get this built by April.

I'm going with Tamiya's excellent 1:48 F4U-1D, almost completely OOB to keep it quick. I am going to add some HVARs and Aeromaster decals for VF-84. I love those yellow nose GSB birds during the Home Island raids.

That should be a sweet built Paul. I will follow along with interest. I have Tamiya's 1/32 F4U-1A with a bunch of AM that I plan to build this winter, so it will be interesting to see other builds of the same base airframe.

Hi guys, following are few shots of the interior after painting, detail painting and weathering. Unfortunately, as I feared, most of the work will be swallowed up when I join the fuselage sides, so most of the details and the, small amount, of weathering will be hidden. The cockpit interior is very nice on this model and it went together, thus far, with no issues - though there was a fair amount of flash on a few of the parts. I am sure I will have to do some fiddling to get the different parts mounted in their mounting slots - that should be fun!
