Jan,
The RAAF should let me display their 'Cat' model at Telford, {they wanted it displayed at the Melbourne version of this type of show, prior to recieving the model}, their 'Green Cat' is not a completed project and the only RAAF birds that get close are the Herc's going too Iraq.
But there is 1 other Catalina PBY 5a that is in Flying Condition here which is privately owned by a consortium known as HARS, I believe their 'Cat' is overall Black and in the markings of 24 Sqn RAAF and will appear in public at the next 'Airshow Down Under'.

I couldn't get the link to work and seeing you fellas have multiple 'Cat's in the pix, I only have the 'plane jane' single pix.
Nice pix btw.
Had a few days break from the workshop and sometime tomorrow I'll get back into the production or should I say reproductions of a few twins.
BTW I have a few Sunderland pix {if ever Fondure release the 48 scale kit}, if the stakes are raised to suit 4 fans.

Just a few more pics lads....
Oh those mere mortals that wash their car on the weekends.... :-)
One more thing fellas..... Any idea if it's possible to find the tractor that they use for pulling up the Cats on the ramp in 1/48? Or maybe it's another scratchbuilding job?

Jan,
For a 48 scale you may have to do some scratch building, in the old Airfix 'Sterling' kit on the 72 scale side the tractor was included, I'll ask a few mates {who build 72 scale if they have one that can be photographed}.
As for 48 scale I have the Catapilar {tracked} tractor {from the B24 Liberator kit}, if it of any use to you.
Hope this helps a little.

Hi Rob,
I'm sure that a tracked Caterpillar can be used as well. I think that I've seen that somewhere, but I can't remember where.... :-) :-)

A little help please.
I'm building the 72 scale cat as a black cat - b64 to be precise - its the kit decals. Nope of the photos i've come across show the wheel well in enough detail to work out the colour. i would assume the interior to be black and the legs as well, but would like to know if my assumption is correct.
Andy
ps
48 scale cat in the post from the states as we speak.

Andy,
On the Catalina PBY 5a 'Black Cat' all the undercarriage wells, legs, arms and wheel hubs {all the undercarriage assembly} seem to be black, I have a painting guide book of the RAAF's PBY 5a 'Blck Cats' which mentions the undercarriage assemblies being overall black.
I asume the USN 'Black Cats' would be the same.
Hope this helps.

Guys,
Here is another 'twin', built for the RAAF's OTS but not by me, I only supplied the 6 Sqn RAAF Decals for this bird.
This is the second release from Classic Airframes of the Hudson and is the 3rd last 'TWIN' of the currant project.

Andy,
Excellent workmanship in both model and your replication of the BMF/Oxide paintwork on your 'Cat', are you using acrylics or enamels on this bird ? and I look forward to seeing this one completed.

Thanks for your comments guys - i really apreciate them.
This model is exclusivley being done in acrylics - Interior(not that you can see it at the mo) is Xtracrlix interior green, remainder is done with Tamiya acrylics. Over a base of white primer. Comments so far are that i should have rubbed the primer down with wire wool before any more paint went on - never mind i will have to build another one to get this right.
The glazing is masked using the Eduard pre cut masks - well worth the money. It has most of the Eduard Photoetch fret on it, but i replaced the machine gun barrels with Redin one's - i have yet to perfect the rolling of barrels from photoetch.
It's been a good learning experience so for.
My mix of white glue for masking does not work well on the BMF finish - probably due to not having wire wooled the Primer. I will try using proper Maskol - if this is a problem it's down to emery boards and wet and dry for weathering.
I've packed the workshop up for Christmas now - modelling will recommence on 27th December as i've got a couple of evenings on my own.
Happy Christmas to all
Andy

Helping a friend the other night on some info for a 'Cat' I came across on old AeroMaster decal sheet #48-235 [Flying Cat's Pt II "US"], that showed a PBY 5 in a Dk Gull Grey/Lt Gull Grey over White, [Atlantic Scheme], of VP-63 Fleet Air Wing 15 at Port Lyautey, in what was once known as French Marrocco.
After ordering a 72 scale Accademy PBY 5 kit I've decided to do anoter 'Cat' subject in this particular cammo scheme, just for something a little different, outside the RAAF schemes.
