The Telford Show is superb, Rob you'll enjoy it in 2008, Jan anychance you may put an appearance in next year - don't know where in Scotland you are based to know if the trip is feasable.

I'm going to bed now - i've driven a 7.5 hour round trip to the show.

Andy

Sure Andy....I'll do my very best to make a public appearance next year at the show. And if the Gods are mercyful, I might even bring something with me.... :-)

Looking forward to your next builds mate.

Whoops! Almost forgot, I live in Glasgow....

Andy,

Thanks for the heads up on the show.

Is the F 5e Lightning the Academy kit ?

Fellas,

I found a pic {the only pic I have} of a 'Twin' that was built for a mag review from the 3rd Beaufighter kit release as the option of the TF X as per the box.

Sorry for the poor qualoty of the pic.

Rob

The F5e is the minicraft kit - same kit as the P38J, but a different nose.

Back on the cat side of things thanks to Ebay i am now the proud owner of a monogram 48 scale cat - will be shipped to me at the end of the month, and also a 48 scale flying fortress!! - too many engines i know, but i'm looking forward to building it already.

I haven't decided on livery for the Beau as yet - the decals i have are for both Mk Vi and mk X , so i think a Mk X may have to be bought as well. I have 4 choices for the Mossie - SWMBO is going to choose that.

The 72 scale cat is now primered - hoping to finish the cockpit and gunners stations during the week.

Thanks for the offer of help with photos/research on the Beau - i'll announce which one has been chosen soon.

Jan

Glasgow to Telford is quite a slap, but the trip would be well worth it.

Welcome to the 1/48 Catalina society matey... She's a fair size isn't she? I'm sure that the trip is more than worth it, looking at the pictures on the forum.... Perhaps if I start now, I'll be down in time for next show. :-) :-) Talking about P-38, I've been eyeing up the Academy version, which you can build 5 different versions of, P-38J Lightning, P-38J Lightning Droopsnot, P-38L Lightning Pathfinder & F-5E Photo Recon. Don't know the quality of the kit though....

Here's another good idea for a couple of Mosquitos.....

30 January 1943
"2 formations, each of 3 Mosquitos, made dramatic at temps to interrupt large rallies being addressed by Nazi leaders in Berlin on this day. These raids would be the first time the German capital was bombed in daylight.
3 aircraft from No 105 Squadron successfully reached Berlin and bombed in mid-morning at the exact time that Goering was due to speak. The speech was postponed or an hour and all 3 Mosquitos returned safely.
In the afternoon, 3 Mosquitos of No 139 Squadron arrived at the time Goebbels was due to speak and again bombed at the correct time but the German defences were alerted and the aircraft of Squadron Leader DF Darling was shot down. Darling and his navigator, Flying Officer W Wright, were both killed and are now buried in Berlin....."

Hi guys.
A great thread and Im enjoying watching it from the sidelines.
Myself and Betheyen visited the RAF Museum at Cosford the day before the Telford show, and noticed that on the starboard wing of their Catalina there is a gantry for working on the engine. The same type that you were talking about earlier on in the thread.Betheyen took a couple of photos but for now heres one I found on Google.

Andy,,,,good to meet you on Saturday and I enjoyed chatting.Hope to catch up with at future shows for a

Jan

I only won it on E bay today, so i have no idea of size, but the 1:72 one is big, so it's gonna be huge!!! I think the 1:48 b-17 won't be small either.

I've not done the academy lightning - it's on my wish list (gotta thing for lightnings - it is a twin after all), but the academy cat is not too bad in terms of fit, i've photoetched it for details though.

Nigel

Nice of you to drop in - thanks for the photo, and the amount of time chatting yesterday (and the coffee). SWMBO has said i can go for the whole weekend next year - so may be in order.

I'm off to bed now - see ya all later.

Jan,

The Academy P38 5 in 1 kit is ok I built the F5 option, {I'll rustle up some pix of it for you}.

Andy,

The Beaufighter TF X kit {Mk X} from Tamiya has either the torpedo or fuselage mounted bomb racks as the options, other parts are as per previous kit releases.

Great you got a 48 'Cat' kit, it's huge in wing span when built.

The F5e option of the Academy kit:

There are a few minor fitting problems around the booms and nose, but detail is good and like all Academy P 38 kits IT DOES need an AM Cockpit to enhance the very basic offering within the kit.
My bird is finished in the Haze Blue upper and Light Haze Blue, USAAC's equivilant to PRU Blue but much lighter in hue tones}, this colour is available only in the Xtra Colour paints, the decals are from an AeroMaster sheet and I ellected to not apply the AEAF bands for June 6 '44 on this model subject, which failed to return from a mission some 3 months later.

Hope this helps a little.

Likewise mate, likewise....

Doesn't give you a nice warm feeling this picture, does it? But still, it's a Catalina.

Both,

1 or 2 beers would sufice, when we do meet and if time permits maybe a lesson or two thrown in.

I don't know about setting the bar to a standard but I intend to bring this with me in '08.

Always happy to help.

We shall have to get Mal to get another table,,those Cats are big puddycats :-)
I suppose the huge wings will be a good way of keeping the dust of our 1:72 fighters

Guys,

I don't think the RAAF would let me borrow the 48 scale Catalina model subject I built for the School to show next year, nor would they assist in a return ticket, to get me there.
