Good to hear your builds are progressing. We will soon have a small airforce to combat the AAA in the "Achtung JaBo" campaign at armorama :-) :-)
Well, some of us are actually playing both sides and participating in both campaigns

OK, I have finally decided on my build - at least the type.
Due to response on my article 'Begginers Guide to everything', I have decided to write another article specifically aimed at using Alclad in more detail than just a single coat. I will include pre-shading with Alclad, spraying individual panels different shades and polishing to achieve slight shade variations.
As a result, I need to build something shinny - so guess what.......
Yep, another P-47D.
Dont have any idea about the paint/marking scheme other than NMF :-)

Here's a few choices young Master Lee..... :-) :-) :-) :-)
Do I dare suggest something from the 368th FG. The 395th Fighter Squadron
"Panzer Dusters" or 397th Fighter Squadron "Jabo Angels"? ;-) :-)

Thanks Jan!
I spent 30 mins today looking at decal options - I did look at a couple you have there and in the end it was a toss-up between Jay Walkin' Molecule and 'Fat Cat'.
Fat Cat won - the kit will be Hasegawa's unless I change my mind again!

Quoted TextThe Campaign submit button on the aeroscale site currently doesn't work (staff_jim is apparently looking into it) so the campaign leaderts decided to start their campaigns and threads to get the ball rolling. As soon as the submitting works the campaigns will be "official" and you can sign up properly then. That's why I asked: I can't find the campaign under the"active campaigns". Where do you sign up? (I complements the achtung jabo campaign at armorama )
Thank you very much
I just needed an excuse to build an IL-2 in Hungarian colors...

That sounds very interesting. Looking forward to see this one going in for the attack
I have never seen an IL-2 in Hungarian colours? Must be an aircraft captured from the Russians and pressed into service?
Do you have a colour scheme on this one you could share?

Ohh--I forgot to ask this also...What constitued a tank killing P-51?? Did they just use a P-51D with a different armament load such as rockets or did they introduce a different variant of the P-51? I am being lazy by not going and looking this up but I thought maybe one of you guys were knowledgable about this. I always assumed the P-51 was kept mainly as a fighter while the P-47 was relegated to Jabo duties toward the end of the war. I remember in Saving Private Ryan at the end where they said " P-51 Tank Killers" but that is the only other time I had heard of this aircraft performing a specific tank busting role. I think they carried a total of six rockets on some variants or just a modified P-51D? I'm assuming the P-51's were used for all jabo duties like the P-47 and not only as "tank-killing" aircraft?

Allright. My mwmories from the Suez-campaign last year told me I'b be the first one out now, but apparently there are others that are eager like me. :-)
Anyway, since I got myself an airbrush now, I got the urge to get started. This is a 1:72 Hellcat, and since 1:48 is more my league I decided to put a bit less effort to the interior. Unfortunately the sprues are dark blue, so everything needs primer. Especially since I want to put a three-tone blue and white paint job. Luckily I found pics of such a Hellcat - With hungry teeth!
Wham! Boom! Pow! Speedy build, just like in the old days!
And when she finally was assembled and primed, a storm swept in from the North Sea, leaving 270000 (Yup. Over 1/4 million) people in Sweden without electrical power! It felt a bit hard to start the airbrush in the dark, biting the hose between my teeth and blowing hard, so she'll have to wait until next weekend.
It's going to be my first airbrushed model, so if you never see me again, I have failed completely and will resort to knitting instead. See ya, I hope! :-)

:-) :-) :-) That was a funny one. Sorry to hear about the storm. It hit Denmark quite hardly as well and a little is still left for Latvia. Anyway back on topic.
It looks like a really cool colour scheme I have decided upon. Those teeth looks awesome Looking forward to see more.....

Hi fellows:
Bad news from Ultracast. They told me they can not deliver the parts I want until March , so I decided to suspend the thing and stat now with an OOB. The Hasegawa Typhoon has a nice interior set anyway and I will try to do my best with homemade seat belts.
I will post pics as I progress

I'm sorry to hear that Carlos my friend.... I got my Typhoon yesterday. So, now I'll start to order other stuff and start to build soon (finger crossed).
One more thing Carlos, don't we need a 1/48 scale of Ulises, this campaigns official mascot as well?

Hi all!
Wow, this campaign took off fast!
Well, here´s my kit;
I have done some "generic" assembly, building all sub-assemblies and a basic painting so far.
More pics when i have something to show!
@Tony;
Don´t be afraid of the airbrush!
For me it was quite a revolution in my model-building and now i can´t let it be!
Read Grumpy old man´s advice on this site, i learnt alot there!
Just remember, Cleaning the airbrush is mandatory for a good result!
Good luck and I´m looking forward to see you Hellcat!
Cheers!

Tough luck. I am sure you will get a good result anyway.
@Phantom II: I will follow your build closely. I have the exact same kit except for the decals and instruction. I probably just paid more for mine It is looking good so far.....

I'll look it up. It was in one of my Osprey books. Apparently one captured plane put in service for evaluations. Unfortunately it wasn't preserved. The tail had been repainted in the three colors (red-white-green), and the fuselage got the Hungarian cross (black square, fat, white cross). The rest of the camo was left as it was.
Since lately I'm building armor only, it will be a great change. (An M3 would be nice too...)

Interesting stuff. I have read the Squadron/Signal book on the Hungarian air force so I know the markings you are refering to, but never heard of the Il-2. Thanks for sharing.
@Steffen: nice build of the Henschel 129. I am looking forward to see your FW 190. Good to have another Desert hunter.
@Tigerbait: Really nice cockpit. I will try to improve my cockpit in my F-4 Phantom II for the Vietnam campaign, but I doubt I can do it that well. Did you handpaint all those small details or was it a prepainted instrument panel?

Hi again.
@ Stefan. I've been trying to find that link, but I can't. Could you please give me a hint. Me and a friend bought the same type of airbrush a month ago, and this weekend we're locking his girlfriend out of his workshop!
@ Todd. Nice office of the Typhoon. I guess that's the main reason I went up to 1:48 when I restarted the hobby. I just love tinkering with cockpits, and in 1:72 it's just too tiny. It seems like parts are more dizzy, and brushes more shaky today, compared to the 70's! :-)

Funny, That´s must be why I tend to build even more in 1/32 nowadays! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
@ Steffen; Thanks for showing the pic!
That´s exactly the aircraft i am going to build!
Your model looks beautiful, now i have something to aim for!
Wich green did you use for the splotches?
They seem to be quite bright, Revell suggests RLM70, can that be correct.
(Desert cammo usually are quoted as RLM79/80 over 78)
I never trust Revell´s color suggestions, and all those mixes!
Cheers!
