Thanks for the kind words guys.

Peter, as far as technique goes, I sprayed the testors aluminum first as the base, masked off the area's around where I wanted to spray the alclad with painters tape, and that was it. Be careful though, do not leave the maskingon too long though, it seemed that the tape actually brought up a little of the testors paint, which actually gave it an interesting finish.

All in all I am quite pleased with the result.

Here is my finished entry - Aichi Val D3A1, totally OOB from the Fujimi 1/48 kit

Neil, nice and clean job on that Val! I didn't knew about a Fujimi kit of this aircraft. Is this a new or an old one? It is VERY similar to the one featured in the last SAMI by the way...

Ted I think you made a great job on that P-38. Congratulations...

Jean-Luc

P.S. Neil, after you have logged in, if you can't access the gallery page you want, try to hit the refresh button on your browser. Sometimes, even after you've logged in, the browser still displays the cached page.

Thanks Jean-Luc.

I will be doing more BMF in the future, now that I have gotten over the fear of having it turn out a total disaster.

Haha, rumbled! You'll find the names of the builders are awfully similar too

The kit has 1993 on the instructions - whether it is was first kitted before then I don't know.

Oh, and I've got my photos finally uploaded, thanks.

Hello everyone,

In between all the Christmas festivities I managed to start on my entry for the Rumble. It’s a Monogram P-39 and will be in markings from the Aleutian Islands.

Sincerely,
Brian

Good start, Brian. Nice to see that you are using your holiday for productive things Myself, I am using the holiday to take care of the Pacific War on the ground with a Jap Tank on Armorama.

Looking forward to see more

Hi all!

Back again after the holidays, well we have New Years Eve too, but I´m back at the bench again!

The problem with my photo-host should be resolved by now, so here comes a update on my Speedy-Dee.

Interior have been fully assembled and painted in US Interior Green (WEM), details picked out in black and silver, a first wash have been applied.
Some details and washes left but close to complete.

I spent the better part of a day assembling those Eduard seatbelts, but they are well worth the effort in this scale!

Interior is OOB, only new seatbelts added.
Trumpeter´s instrument panel works fine and looks quite good.

Finally I added some tear and wear plus the new seatbelts.

The Engine was painted with Alclad Steel and given a black wash.

I added the wiring, made of thin electronic cable, about 0.6mm diameter.

The exhaust pipes was painted with a mix of Humbrol Gun Metal (#53) and Old Bronze (#171).

The wing is almost complete as are the bombs and wheels, soon this will be an aeroplane!

Until next time...

Cheers!

Hello All!

Managed to finish my A6M3 over Christmas. So without futher ado...

I used to Tamiya A6M3 which is, IIRC, the only clipped wing Zero on the market. I added seat belts and brake lines (which you can`t really see in these pics). Aircraft was finished in Floquil Concrete (which is apparently a close match to the IJN grey that was used - in fact, the fellows who restored the Blayd A6M2 matched surviving examples to it) and Aeromaster Mitsubishi Cowl Blue Black and IJN Green. The Green camo was done by brush (as it was in the field). No radio mast is installed, as was common with Rabaul based A6M3s.

Was this ever a blast! Unfortunately, as the campaign ends January 31, this won`t give me enough time to finish the Hasegawa Ki-45 which just arrived! I will see if I can rattle off another single engine fighter, however.

Great entry. Grant. The Jap forces are gaining strength I am looking forward to see if you can enter another single engine aircraft.

Thanks for participating

I'm still alive! I've been swamped, but have got some progress on the Betty and Ohka. The decals have just been applied and damaged to show wear. I still need to add the aluminum paint chips, washes, dull coat, powders, etc., but things are moving along. This is probably going to go right up to deadline...

Sorry about the grainy photos. I took them fast, but I got a light box for Christmas, so the final photos will be much better.

I've always thought that it was an interesting contrast between the worn out paint job of the Betty and the fresh new paint of the Ohka being carried...

More at some point...

Looks good, Dade. I like what you have done with the decals. Did you paint the decals or scratch them?

Looking forward to see this one take to the sky.

Thanks Jesper!

To cause the damaged effect on the decals, I applied them with only a little bit of setter and didn't rub out any of the bubbles. Then, after they were dry, I put some tape on them and pulled it off. Wherever there were bubbles, the decal would came off with the tape for a good damaged effect. The best part is that since air gets trapped near mostly near panel lines, the decal comes up more there, just like the paint weathers on the real plane.

I had to scratch the recognition yellow areas a little to help the thick decals come off with the tape, though.

Now I can go into where the decals have come off and add a little aluminum to complete the effect.

Greetings, all

If you guys have room for one more, I'd like to join this campaign. Several kits in my stash are clamoring to be the candidate, but I haven't decided yet which one to build (or from which "side" it will be). Obviously, though, if I'm going to make the deadline, I'll need to choose and start something right away, and it'll need to be something that can be built relatively quickly. I'll rummage around a bit and get back with you . . .

Cheers

Clever approach with the decals, Dade. I will try that at some time, but I fear I will tear of too much decal. Anyway, practice makes perfect, so I will test on an old model first. Thanks for the tip.

Automation, you are most welcome to participate in the campaign. Better late than never I am looking forward to hear what you have ready to take to the East Asian skies.

Hi all,

The progress of my 48 scale N1K1 "REX", is the Tamiya kit, built OOB as the early version, all paints are Tamiya enamels, the uneven edges of the cammo is created using Maskol.

I don't have any pix of the interior on this bird due to waiting for replacemnt systems from the insurance in regard to my previous residence issue.

Hi all!

I've decided to join in to this Campaign. It's a bit late but better late than never! I see there are already some fantastic models on the workbench!

I will enter Hasegawa's new Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu (see review here). It will be an "out of the box" project and I expect the build to be fast. So far I have assembled the various sub-assemblies prior to painting: cockpit, sidewalls, wings, gear bays, nose cone, tyres, intakes, exhausts etc...

So far nothing special to report, everything falls together without any problem. I think I will apply the basic colors tomorrow.

Rob, nice job on the "Rex". Good choice for an entry into the campaign. The Rex has a very special look to her with the massive floats and the big spinner. Nice effect with the maskol. Looking forward to see it with some markings

Welcome onboard, Jean-Luc. Nice to see this kit build. I am looking forward to see it as an OOB build, but are you sure you can build something OOB without resculpting the aircraft using filler?
Anyway, this is a tempting kit so it will be interesting to hear your verdict after building it. Are you doing the fuel track as well?
Looking forward to see more

Hi Gang

I'll probably switch on my subject. I will try to build the Hobby Boss F4F-3 as a hotel-project ... we'll see how it works out ... the kit looks pretty good, simple but still good ... hope I can make it

cheers

Hi Jesper!

Yes I will build the fuel truck as well. But right now I will concentrate on the aircraft since I have to finish it until the end of the month for this Campaign.
As for building the model OOB it's how I do most of my models. So far the kit goes together very well and the test fitting of the main parts is very promising. I think only a very small amount of filler will be needed.

Stephen, if you do the F4F-3 from Hobby Boss, do you plan to use other decals than those included in the kit? The options are both pre-war machines...

Hi John Luck

My name is still Steffen ... Stephen is the guy with the WW1 stuff

I planned to use something from the Errormaster "US Navy and Marine top guns" sheet .. well nothing in, but IIRC I have markings for light blue F4F-3s somewhere (Thatch, O'Hare ...)

cheers

Better late than never, indeed. Good luck with your build Jean-luc.
Unfortunately I don't think I'll make it with my British buffalo. It's still at the very same stage as when I last posted pics (On the first or second page on this thread?), I've been working on some other builds without noticing that this campaign's deadline is at the end of this month. There's still work to be done on my Mig-21 for the Mark Sharpe campaign, and as I'm starting my studies at a university of applied sciences next Monday, my modeling time will be limited.

Sorry to hear that, Eetu. I was looking forward to your build as the standard is always high. Anyway, I will enjoy your MiG instead.

Good luck with you studies

Hi John Luck (sorry could not help it)

Good, I will be looking forward to the truck as well as the aircraft.
