Hi Jesper, and all others too

had to delete some pictures again .. so Jesper could you please point me to the campaign gallery for posting pix once the model is finished (how many?).

best wishes

Steffen

Hi Steffen. Looks good. I also have a pretty pragmatic approach to cockpit painting. I mostly like to show the cockpits closed to show the "real" outline of the aircraft. Therefore little or very little can be some of the cockpits, so painting is accordingly.

Pictures of finished entries can be uploaded HERE You only need to upload one picture although more would be nice. But if you have space problems one will do.

Also, for those participants that have not signed up for the campaign yet, please do so HERE Otherwise I cannot award ribbons when the campaign finishes.

Brian, maybe a dirty brown would work well for a wash according to what you are writing about the wear of these birds. Consider a medium brown to show dried dirt and dust on the aircraft.

Scott, very nice little office. Looking forward to see more.

Brian,

Excellent work on your P 39, I answered your question in regard to my old Monogram build, of this bird, on the original thread, I posted some time ago, I have also added an updated pic.
But sadly the bird is not completed as yet.

This is the state that my particular bird got too, before I had to shelve it and is not part of this campaign's GB.

Hey guys,

I just finished my entry. It's Accurate Miniatures' SBD-3 Yorktown kit. It is painted in MM acrylics and the panel lines are shaded with HB artist's pencil. I have uploaded three pics to the campaign gallery. Feel free to tell me what you think! (There is one major problem. See if you can see it. )

Sorry, the pics are a little dark.

Thanks,
Samuel

Hello everyone,

Some nice looking models getting done.
orcada your P-40 interior is looking the job. I eagerly wait the rest of your build.
29Foxtrot thank you for replying about your P-39 kit. I'm sorry you have not been able to finish it yet. Hopefully you can sooner than later.
sweaver your SBD is good looking bird. I really like the faint hint of the red center on the national insignia. I can't make out what is "Wrong" with your build. I think your being hard on yourself.

Sincerely,
Brian

Thanks, Brian. I'm glad you like it. I consider all you guys here as experts, so to have you like it so much is quite flattering.

As to the mistake, you can see it in the 2nd and 3rd pics. I accidentally reversed the dive flaps on the wings. So the top one should be on the bottom, and vise versa. I noticed it too late to fix it, though.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring (quite late) since I have been working on converting a tamiya F4F-4 into a -3 for a little while now, but only saw this campaign today.

I sort of dropped out of modeling for a year or so, because life got way too hectic, and started back up last summer and have been building lots of things at once since (and just now getting back to Armorama and Aeroscale). So I can't be sure when I actually got going on this one. Is that ok?

Let me know and I then I'll go ahead and post a pic or two of where I am at now with it.

Hello everyone,

I was able to apply the decals to my Aleutian based P-39. Now the hard part, setting it aside to dry..................... More to follow.

Samuel, great SBD-3. I did not spot your mistake and I think it is a great build anyway. I am no expert, but it looks good even though I know you reversed the flaps. Thanks for participating

Brian, good progress on your P-39. Looks good. Looking forward to see more when it has dried and got a more mat finish.

Hi Vance

First of all welcome back to the hobby and welcome back to Aeroscale

Well, as the campaign is just about to end and has been ongoing for many months, chances are that your aircraft will have been started within the allowed time period, so I will accept it.

Do not forget to sign up HERE if you have not already. Otherwise I cannot award any ribbon.

Will you be able to finish before the 31st January or do you need an extension?

Welcome onboard - looking forward to see some pictures

Outstanding!

I don't think I'll need an extension... I hope. It is really pretty close to being ready to paint. I may not finish the weathering on time, but I think It'll at least be presentable by the 31st if I put it on the front burner.

And this campaign will give me a reason to get one of these 10 or so builds I have started in the last 6 month done by letting me focus on one.

I'll snap some pics tonight to show everyone where I am at.

Ok, here are the promised photos (at the bottom).

It is a Tamiya F4F-4 converted to a -3. Originally I was going to do a -4, but then decided I wanted to do a plane from the Battle of the Coral Sea (hence the reworked gun bay).

The guns and gun bay are from the Aires detail set for the F4F-4 (with the outer one deleted after the fact. After conversion to the -3, I used the ammo bay from a Aires P-51 wing gun set (chopped down a bit). Panel lines are re-scribed to represent non folding wings (still working on the underside).

I can't remember who made the photo etch cowl flaps, as they have been in my parts box for almost a decade. I used the Moskit exhausts as well (which were quite difficult to fit).

I have also filled most the rivet detail and sanded down the over-scale concentric spines on the fuselage. Had to yank out the photo etch seat belts when I converted to a -3, as they didn't have shoulder straps. The lap belts are still awaiting replacement.

As you can see, I am pretty close to being able to paint, though I need to clean up a few things first. I should be able to get to the airbrush this weekend hopefully.

Only a week left of this campaign, and I still have not received delivery of all the kits that I wanted to include in my 1/144 "rumble" project!

This is where I left off a couple of months ago;

These I plan to add (I actually hope to build most of them next week);

Note: The Hurricane is going to be converted to a Mk IIc and get SEAC markings for Burma operations

But I'm still waiting for my 1/144 Chinese I-16 from a small resin aircraft manufacturer in Japan. I just received word from HLJ that shipment finally has been made!

Thus, I'm not sure that I will be able to finish my "secret" project in due time! The project will definitely be finished, though, since it will be a gift to my little son!

Cheers! // PolarBear

Hi all!

Vance, seems like there is still a lot of work on your Wildcat. That gun bay looks very detailled! Good luck for finishing in time...

Björn, I can't wait to see how the gift to your son will look like...

Jesper, I have to report a finished entry...

Jesper,

I may need a couple of weeks longer to finish my 'Rex' for this campaign, if that's ok.

Vance, looks good. Nice details you have added. Looking forward to see it with some colours on

Jean-Luc, great job! The camouflage looks great. It really helped using the pastels on the edges. Thanks for participating.

Rob, you have a few extra weeks to finish the Rex. The Jap forces could use some reinforcements although Jean-Luc have added some capabilities to the Jap forces already

Bjoern, do you want to have few extra weeks on your build to have time to get all the parts in place on your build? Your project looks good and could be a nice entry into the campaign. I am sure your son will be very happy about it.

Actually, most of the significant work is done and she is close to ready for paint, despite the sloppy appearance. Sometimes my models look like hell till I have some primer on them (which I hope to do tonight for this one).

You should have seen how the A-26K Counter Invader that I am currently finishing up looked before I got paint on it! (i'll post pics of that in my gallery in a couple weeks once I get the last antenna bits on)! It was a total conversion mess, but I am quite happy with how it looks now that you can't see all the errors I made and fixed (as you still can with this F4F).

Anyway, I've got all the seams and scribed/filled lines on the F4F-3 cleaned up now and some final wet-sanding with 800 grit comes this evening. Then attaching the rudder and canopy (which I still have to mask... - ok, maybe the primer won't be on tonight....)

I want to have the decals on by the end of the weekend though, and I think i can pull that off. that gives me a couple evenings for adding landing gear, preliminary weathering, final details, and taking some photos. I should be able to manage it if the weather stays gray and chilly till Sunday.

It's not going to look as nice as Jean-Luc's though...

I am happy to report that I should have a Ki-44 ready before the end of the build. I was looking through the stack of kits and found an old Otaki kit that I had started the cockpit on. The a/c is together and been painted, and decalling should be done in the next day or so. It doesn't look as good as Jean-Luc's Ki-45, but at least is something to help offset the disparity in forces!

Jesper,

Thanks for the extra time too finish the 'Rex' even though the IJA/IJN need some added subjects, I think the 'Rex' is the only IJN 'Floatplane' subject included in this campaign.
