This is my second model in 1:144. Previously I used to build 1:72 motorcycles. At the moment I started few projects in 1:144. Recently I got inspired by the best model of SH60 in 1:144 that I found in the web (I bet it is yours for the base looks exactly the same as the one you used to present your other models few pages back in this thread) - and started the Dragon kit. It was supposed to be out of box build but I couldn't resist doing it my way (read more complicated )

I know (sort of) how you feel about 1/144 scale modeling, but I'm not sure how you feel about sci-fi. Anyway, Bandai is apparently releasing a 1/144 Star Wars AT-AT, and a pair of 1/144 TIE Fighters. All we need now are some X-wings!

I have no problem with 1/144th anything ... but that's me. I am not the host of this section (Too Dumb ! ) . I would have to assume since this is Aeroscale we might want to limit how far off topic we get.

Personally, I think the models look Great ! Now we just need them to get into the Avatar series.

I agree that we don't what to get too far off topic, and these were posted over on ModelGeek as well.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program. Where did I put that 757?

Finally working on something 144th so I can jump in here. I love this scale. I'll post some past stuff soon but this is what I have going at the moment.

A couple of Eduard MiG 21's

Nose weighted with tungsten powder.


Textured some lead foil for the seat back





1 of the seat restraints. To those that have mentioned how much they dislike 1/72 scale PE... Sorry, no sympathy here










The PE set came with a nice engine exhaust

Outstanding !!! I have several of these in my stash, so I'll be interested in the build. Who's colors are you leaning towards. A Great thing about the MiG-21 is the fact so many folks flew them !

Thanks Bruce. As far as scheme choice, I was going to do one with camo and the other NMF. Now that I've crushed 1 of the windscreens with my big sausage fingers I am only able to complete 1 so gonna have to do a coin flip. I tried to vac a new one with my trusty old Mattel vac-u-form but I think the heat plate is going. Can't get hot enough to get a good copy.

Heat it over a stove burner?

I remember this thread! IIRC the only 1/144 model I have tried is a FlaK 37.

1/144 has really come a long way since I bought some Revell of Japan Japanese ACFT back in 1984. I've been tempted to dabble into it. I am a 1/100 enthusiast but there's not that much available. 1/144 has ships, planes, trains, and military. Plenty to go around.

I like all of these models. Marc, your Fishbed looks great!

Wow. I would really like to see that with something in the frame for size reference. Those guns weren't very big. That's a lot of detail on a tiny thing.

Excellent job on those MiG cockpits, Marc. That's a lot of detail in a really small space.

I've been playing around withy a technique seen on Plastic Pix used Wally in a post back in late Dec. Link below. He's done a great job of capturing the subtle tonal various in the NMF that just aren't there in Alclad etc.

Since I've lost one nose cone and broken one windscreen I've only got parts to finish one diminutive MiG. Decided to use the other airframe as a test for the buffed Tamiya Silver Leaf finish and I am not at all unhappy. It's shiny enough the decals didn't need a clear coat and the sheen on the details are almost an exact match for the sheen of the "metal".

Wally also figured out how to photograph the models so you can see the effect. It's there on the MiG but it just doesn't show well in my photo. May be due to the teeny size

Did you ever notice the things we do are sometimes twofold? Achieving the desired result and redefining "Tedious". I know I've done the latter ... the next coat of Silver Leaf will go to the former.

Ok, it's done. 144th MiG-21 SMT. The kit is pretty amazing. But sadly I think the 61 years hands may not be able to hack 144th. I did however manage to mask the inside of the canopy as well with the extra set from the unfinished MiG. I used the decal seals on the canopy but too wide. No way i was gonna try to paint those.Photos are crap too.
It looks a a heck of a lot better from a normal viewing distance. Too close in this scale makes every little schmutz out of scale. Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I do like that PE exhaust though.

Nice job on the -21 ! I really give you credit, I have a real mental block against Natural Metal coloring, and then putting decals on it. I can just not get it to look correct ... to my satisfaction anyway.
