well, just to keep this going, I'm getting antcy (sp?) about my AMT ERTL A-20G. just got the PE and a book on it, and I've got the actual "Little Joe" about 5 minutes from my house! Guess I'll be back soon taking LOTS of pictures.

P.S. - if anyone wants pics of a plane that's at the USAF museum in dayton let me know and i'll be more than willing!

this thread is uber quiet for being less than a week away from starting.... oh well. Still can't wait to start. What else is being built? I already put what I'm building.

Looking forward to Saturday!

This will be my first campaign. I am going to attempt an old Monogram P 61. I have been moving this one around with me since I entered the military over 20 years ago. This seemed like a great opportunity. The decals are shot, so Ill have to source some new ones. Thats half the fun

It is the calm before the storm I think. I'm eagerly looking forward to the start too. I'll be working on Accurate's 1/48 "Dirty Dora" B-25 . My wife, believe it or not, has been wanting me to build this one for awhile so now I'm doubly motivated .

Hi all!

Finally!

Today I decided on what to build for this Campaign.

It will be something wonderfully weird, the Northrop N-9MA!

Huh, what´s that you´ll say!

This Is the ancestor of the B-2 Spirit, a flying wing concept aircraft!

This Is how it looks;

The kit is in 1/48, and made by Sword.

There´s not very much parts in the box;

Mostly injected plastic parts, three resin parts, one vac-formed canopy and a very modest decal-sheet consisting of only three decals!

This is a short run kit, but it looks like it could build up really well.
All parts are moulded with fine detail, though the sprue gates are very thick so care must be taken when removing them.
No flash whatsoever and the vac canopy is crystal clear.

This will be an interesting build, can´t wait to get started!

Cheers!

Nice one Stefan, very similar to the N9M B. The only one left, not flying as of this writing, it has a blown portside engine

That makes me happy. I just bought that kit at BlizzardCon in columbus, OH last weekend, and was thinking about building it, but decided to go with my A-20 Little Joe. It's a gorgeous looking kit, and being that I was out of the modeling loop for a few years, i was really surprised to see all the extras it came with. I'm going to have to start putting accurate miniatures on my xmas list from now on.

One step closer to getting this thing started. First I found the kit. It was in an A6 Intruder box. Long story there, but the original box had not survived one of the moves. I knew I had put it in a safe place, but I could not remember where. I ordered a new set of decals today in preparation for Saturday. Here is my problem. I think I need an intervention. I intended to do an out of the box build, then I saw the PE interior set. Oooh shiny. Next thing I knew, I just spent almost $ 30.00 on stuff for a 25 year old kit that originally cost me $5.00. Is the a twelve step program for AMS?

I am looking forward to start on this campaign. I have a Chinook heating up its engines.

It is the Italeri 1/48 beast. I have not decided on the camouflage sheme yet. There are so many cool schemes included in the kit.

Looking forward to the starting this monster

Yep I'm looking forward to getting started, I pulled my Dornier out earlier in the week to check I had everything I wanted. Just sorting the masks out with Mal (when i can get my darned camera to work properly) I already have the canopy masks and the Verlinden update set so should be great fun.

3 days till the start of the campaign, and I still can't figure out which of the two engine kits in my stash to build.

Maybe you all can help. I have the following kits in my stash (all 1/48), so let me hear opinions about which I should build, as I am pretty much feeling equally about them all:

1. Ju-88G-6 "Nachtjaeger" (DML)
2. Bristol Blenheim Mk IV (Classic Airframes)
3. A-20B/C Havoc (AMT) *
4. B-26 Marauder (Monogram)
5. Bristol Beaufighter (Tamiya) *
6. Mitsubishi Betty type 11 (Tamiya)
7. Ju-188E "Avenger" (DML)
8. Ju-88S (conversion from the Pro-Modeler Ju-88A-4)
9. He-219 Uhu (Tamiya)
10. Mitsubishi Ki46 III Dinah recon plane (Tamiya)

* denotes similar build already announced for the campaign.

Hi all!

This looks like a very promising and fun Campaign!

@Chuck;

Thanks for the pics!

For what I know, there were three Nortrop N-9 Prototypes at the beginning.
One crashed during the test programme, so they built another one, the N-9MB two-seater.

All were painted differently, the first (mine bird) was yellow on top blue under, the second was blue on top and yellow under and the third (and fourth) all yellow.

All this to the brief history on the instruction leaflet.

Chuck, you don´t have any pics of the cockpit on the N-9?
Or know where I can find them?

This is a rare bird and the prototype-info is at best limited, and pics very rare.
I have gone into in research mode now...

@Vance;

Please build the Classic Airframes Blenheim!
That´s a model you seldom see, and the prototype is soooo coool!

If the Campaign had run for a few more months, that had been my build!
I have both the MkI and the MkIV in my stash, very nice kits that just begs to be built!

Cheers!

^^ I'd say go for the Blenheim too. I't not such a common sight.
Have you thought about marking choices yet?

I'm planning to build a Blenheim too, only in 1:72, from the MPM kit. It'll be a Finnish one, of course. Most probably BL-158, since I got some books from the library with good photos of that particular plane, and it belonged to the series II built in Finland too, so I'll be using Galdecals resin bomb bay.

Stefan - Yes I've got some photos of photos of the cockpit. I'll find them and email them to you. I won't post them here as there maybe issues, with copyright.

Sorry, but the instruction sheet is wrong, the N9M B is not a two seater. You are correct regarding the Blue and yellow paint schemes, for a short time one of the A's sported a Blue over Yellow scheme, but was later converted to the Yellow over Blue sported by all the N9M's. The N9M A that was Blue over Yellow also flew with the National markings on the wrong wing surface, reversed from the standard.

One N1M was painted overall Yellow the other was overall Orange with Yellow stripes at the spar joints.

Just as an aside, I have a long history of keeping track of Northrop's Flying Wings, for personal reasons. The N9M B "lives" about 30 minutes drive from my home, and Oh we have the same birthday, first flight was Dec. 27, 1943, so it's two years my senior

P.S. My stepfather was a painter at Northrop, during the Wing Program.

wow...

I didn't expect a unified response at all.

Ok, unless some others chime in even louder in the next couple days, I'll do the Blenheim. That kit does need to get dusted off - i've had it quite a while now.

as for markings, I was thinking about the unusual blue on blue scheme (it had the standard camo pattern, just in blues instead of dk green and dark earth, and only had an "H" for an identifier). I have the decal sheet for it at home, so I'll scan that to show what I mean when I get home tonight.

What dornier are you going to be building? I got a 1:72 Do-17 with condor legion markings that I'm thinking of doing.

Here is a scan of the decal I sheet I obtained for my Blenheim kit:

I will either do the machine coded "H" (dark and light Mediterranean blue) or the one coded "V-UX".

BTW, if anyone wants some of the remaining decals when I am done for their Blenheim, let me know and I'll post them to you when I am done with it.

Thats a great list of options. I personally would love to see the JU 188. I haven't seen very many built before.

ok, so far the voting stands at:

2.5 for the Blenheim Mk IV
1 for the Ju-188E
0.5 for the Ki46 III Dinah recon

Still 2.3 days of voting left before I have a chance to start building.
