A parcel arrived yesterday from Bohemia ....
The Finnish Army know that they have always an easy game with me. Recently I ordered their brand new self-propelled howitzer "Moukari" at my LHS and when I had a look at Eduard's online shop just a few days ago I saw this ....
In a matter of seconds my finger clicked the "Buy" button.
In the box are 2 comlete kits of a Bf 109 G-2 and G-6 with PE parts and masks and 10 decal versions, 8 war time and 2 post war, including this gaudy looking "Utti Air Racer" from 1950, which I surely will build. From war time "Mersu", there can be build machines of famous aces Ilmari Juutilainen, Lauri Nissinen or Olavi Puro, beside some others, including one Mersu in finnish camo Olive Green/Black/Light Blue, the so called sotamaalaus. The Hakaristi are all double (in one piece and devided), so if I count correct there are insignias for 5 Mersu. Now I need some overtrees ....
And as a free gift, they have included the 2018 catalogue. Thank you Eduard for this great kit ....
Have a nice Easter!
Torsten

Hi all
I must post a shout-out for Sovereign Hobbies. I've just bought a few items for my latest project (reviews will follow), but I think I should also highlight their "boutique" service too. The whole package arrived bang on schedule and was carefully packaged - this was mostly paint, so spills could have been messy - plus, they'd included a user guide and even a little packet of sweets! A very nice touch.
As you can see, I bought some ColourCoats (previously WEM) - my favourite enamels - plus some Infini Model Super Fine rigging thread, which really lives up to its name.
All the best

Hi Rowan,
I was chatting with Sovereign Hobbies on Face Book about thinner and they have a "Naptha thinner" developed for Colourcoats. I'm interested in trying it out

My latest delivery ...
Ever wanted to do the Zebra - Do-27 and have Revell's 1/32 "Grzimek" in my stash but yet was afraid painting the stripes properly. Even a 32 is not quite my scale. So I'm very happy that SH brought out their kit with this option! Bought it immediately.
You can check also Rowan's review of the Do-27 ‘Civilian Service’ here.
Same I was after HobbyBoss' Sepecat Jaguar and got it for the reasonable price of 16€.

Hi again
It was a Big Day today - I took a refresher driving lesson after not being behind the wheel for nearly 20 years! Happily, I emerged unscathed - as did other road users and pedestrians! The last time I was on the road, I was driving an old Morris Traveller (a classic Moggie! Wonderful!) and the only point the instructor stressed was that you don't need to work as hard driving a modern car... I did spot him wincing once or twice at the way I was using the gears as brakes... Still, I was declared safe to go - so watch out Isle of Wight!
And after that lengthy preamble, what's the only logical thing you can do to celebrate a Big Day? Disregarding rude suggestions, the correct answer is: head to your LHS! I bought an old friend:
It fits in with all the commissioned Luftwaffe stuff I'm building this year, but will offer a little respite as well as opening up a new possible side-topic.
One thing that did amaze me is that I compared the sprues against the shots I took for my review back in 2004 HERE, and there's not a hint of flash or other wear visible. True, with a LHS in a place like the Isle of Wight, the kit could have sat on the shelf for a couple of years, but it's still really remarkable for a kit that's been in constant production for 15 years and a credit to Tamiya.
All the best

Hi all
Again, not something from Postie, but I picked up a neat vintage typeset drawer that should be ideal for organising things during a build:
It's big enough to hold plenty of parts and sub-assemblies (the scalpel gives an idea of the size). It was originally lined with card or thick paper, but most of that has long gone, so I may add some felt or thin foam.
You can probably find drawers like this pretty easily at car boot sales or charity shops (this one was among a donation of books to my Oxfam shop). I always think it's great to be able to give a fresh lease of life to an old object like this, instead of buying a modern plastic alternative which might do the job as well.

Whatever you do, you need to replace the winglets; they're much too short and far too wide at the tip. You can rob them from a DACO kit or get a pair from Bra.Z or Contrails.

I've heard that the winglets were incorrect. I'll have to check out Bra.Z or Contrails as I do not have a DACO kit.

Yes, that's always the problem, Terri. It's not that you are looking for model kits, they look for you and in a moment of carelessness they jump in your bag. I know that problem too well ....

This arrived today at my doorstep
Saab SK-37 E "Stör-Viggen"
Special Hobby 1/48
The kit price is beyond my limit and the only excuse I have is, it's a Saab. Sometimes I have to jump over my shadow ....
.... pretty full packed box. It looks like 500 parts or more ....
.... some nice decal choices for 4 versions and pre painted PE parts ....
.... I'll probably go for the first version, aircraft 73 from F21 in Lulea ....
.... but until I build this kit a lot of water will run down the river ....

Merry Christmas everyone
I hope Santa's left some exciting presents under your trees!
For me this year it was two kits - one aircraft and one most definitely not (shock, horror! ):
I blame Joel for leading me into temptation with his superb car modelling!
All the best

Luciano, shame about the box damage, that's a fantastic looking kit.
No kits for me this Christmas, although a work friend did give me a flying rubber band powered foam biplane. Put together in few minutes and flew surprisingly well.
I have treated myself to a couple of kits I've wanted for ages. WNW Lanoe Hawker DH.2 and Special Hobbys Morane Saulnier. The Morane looks like it will be a challenge, but has a surprising low part count and simple rig. Well compared to the DH.2 anyway! Looking forward to starting that one soon.
I've also treated myself to the WNW Sopwith Dolphin which is still on it's way to me. Along with all the other usual Christmas expenses, I'm dreading seeing my bank statement!

It's arrived!
And what a fantastic kit!
I definitely need to make the time to get these built this year. And work out a way to rig that works for me.

Well a little late but better late than never? A white bearded fellow in a red suit left these:
XMas 2018 A-1 by Jan Etal, on Flickr
These newer Airfix kits were a surprise to me as the quality is so improved on their older offerings (that I still have a few in the stash) or while I know from past build experience, nice. Please excuse the "Ground Crawler" in the background. Also received a few other belated gifts but they are not of subjects that pertain to Aeroscale.
Cheers,
Jan

No plastic for me this time but some other drug. Thursday arrived the brandnew book "Mit der Kamera an der Front" ("with the camera at the front") from Luftfahrtverlag Start, published by well known historian Axel Urbanke. I pre-ordered the book already in November. As usual it's not cheap but worth every Cent. The books is again bi-lingual german/english with fantastic unknown photos, many of them in colour. For the profiles there will be a decal sheet in 1/48 soon and I'm on the waiting list here also. You just can't have enough 109's ....
If you're intered in the book here's the link to the english webside:

Happy reading!

Not a kit, and not exactly the postman, but worthy of a mention here. Scrounging around in an Op-Shop I came across this book. At $1 there was no way I was going to leave it there.
Cheers, D
