Steve,
Just had a quick look through your thread and thought you may be interested to know what the 'pump' underneath the instrument panel actually is. The pump is part of the Constantinesco gun synchronization system. This system, as no doubt youare aware, operated on the principle of hydraulic transmission of power. The pump in question was the priming pump for the system. The pilot raised the handle of this pump to ensure that pressure was at its peak prior to firing the Vickers gun. There were two feeds to the base of the pump, one from the trigger and the other from a engine driven cam. Pressing the trigger allowed the impulses from the cam to be transmitted to the trigger motor mounted on the rear of the Vickers on early models or ontop of the breach in later models. Hope this is of some help. Fantastic model by the way.

Mick,
That was one of my questions early on. I hate putting something in that i have no idea what it does. Actually your right, it does seem like an amazing "problem solving" solution of it's day. I thank you for the input on that..............Don't go quizing me later on it..........no way i will remember that name. Constantinesco gun synchronization system.
I did a google search for it and found out another question that I had earlier..........right up till now.....where did the sync fit into the gun? Had seen some in rear and some at the breech. Which one do i use? Found out early systems attached to rear of gun and later systems fitted at the breech. That's where mine will be fitted (later system).............as you wont see it.
Thank you for the input.
Regards

O...big day for me.....at least it is in my small brain. Closed up the cockpit area. Finished the leather seat, sutton harness and other little fiddlies.
You will note that the little cockpit window is missing......no I didn't forget it, I am going to install that from the outside later.
The harness in the Part PE didn't cut it so I made a Sutton harness with the ends of the part PE part and Tamiya tape. Those brass grommets are SMALL....... Looks like sloppy paintwork. It's called, "I can't see the darn things"!!!! Painted them with a pin prick. Looks like I used a 4" house brush. Used the "attaching" hardware from a 1/48th PE set for something. Was the right size........... Can't even see them on the sides.
The leather seat cushion looks like I threw a bucket of water on it. Will tone it down with a matte finish.
These upclose photos bring out all the Ugly Spots............ Shows me what I need to work on.
I took the "firewall" and polished it, then put a layer of "Baremetal" foil over the outside and inside. Rubbed with steelwool to rough it up slightly. Still shiney, and that's good. I need all the light I can get in there to see, when the cowling is off.
OK.....I don't THINK I left anything out. Too bad if i did............

Note to Self.................
It appears that I made a "slight" error early in my SE5a build that has caused a few "issues" throughout the build process. Back at the PART of Poland framework PE.
Either I made a mistake or the PE made the mistake...........the former is more likely . it seems that I allowed the mating of the top and bottom fuselage PE pieces to spread the fuselage a "Tad". Very small.........but has been cause for some "problem solving" at different turns during the build.
For my next SE5a........and for anyone else using the PE set.........allow the width to be a bit smaller. Won't hurt anything in the long run. There is very little dry fitting of the Roden plastic pices here. Tape all you want, the fit just won't be the same, too much 'slop".
Having said that, as good as the Roden kit is, IMHO the PART PE is a necessity with this kit. I know that I wouldn't have gotten it without the PART frets.

Just another one off the master himself
When will I have time to build anything when you deliver this?
And your way to use oils on the leather make me wonder is that real leather?

Master....my a**......I'm just a rookie.........with a sharp knife.
Like you, I've been sanding and puttying. Had to sneak in the ladies department and get some Nail Polish remover (with acetone) to do the "sanding" of the putty for me. I'm working up real close to the fuselage lacing an I CAN'T sand those. Anyway.....no fun. No pics right now. Looks too bad. when I get it sanded AND polished.....I'll post a pic.
Leather.............sanding and acetone worked right through that leather paint. It was just a "placeholder" anyway. Appreciate the comments though.
Into placing the fuselage PE brackets and the wing strut brackets. Got to make sure I have all the sanding done. Might have to spray on a thin coat of primer to check out the sanding.
Well, back to work.
Regards

OK....I'm back to work on the SE5. The holdup was "playing" with the Abbie......and "Contemplating' the rigging / rigging hardware and just what I was going to do and how to do it.
Wing to Fuselage fillet caused hairloss.......Couldn't just putty and sand.........those darn lacings are too close. Puttied and used acetone to smooth out the putty and reduce the need for sanding. Once I'm happy (as i can be) with that................then it's primer time to find all the faults.
Once the faults are found in the skin, then i can start attaching the PART PE rigging hardware to the fuselage.
Double Rigging? not sure the Part PE doesn't use hardware for that. So I "Might" just double string and add small spacers. Not sure there.
Attached the PART PE hardware to the struts........
Filled in the sinkholes in the prop. Still have the PART PE to do on the prop.
A rather unspectacular photo of the progress.

I have come to really HATE "primer" and "hi-res photos". They always cause me extra work. As will be the case here. The only thing I think came out the way i envisioned are the wing-fuselage fillets.
I'll be busy sanding/puttying/sanding................

Hmmm. I would have done them earlier in the build process...
But As Terri says, looking great!
I started my Hisso powered machine last night... Engine first...
Will have to start a thread for that.
Cheers,

I hear you Hugh about starting earlier................but that just gives me new problem solving challenges.
Terri, been testing several methods. Somebody here (don't remember who) used an acrylic paint of some sort. Whatever method, it will have to be brushed on (no room for sanding). I even experimented with aluminum foil that had been lengthwise wrinkled.........that showed great promise. Tried a wrinkled tissue also..........again promise......more promise that the foil due to the cleaner edges.
This kit has been full of challenges............and i enjoy that.

Thanks..........I'm gonna try the tissue paper one more time with maybe some thougher tissue.

Steve try tracing paper even though it's pretty much the same thing , it's paper weight is more and it's still the same thickness as tissue paper . Just a thought .
Have a look at Lars feature on the DH-2 , he did wrinkles on that as well

I saw the DH-2...........it was a very good job. Will look for Gesso??? tomorrow. or some kind of sludge......
Tracing paper? Could get real expensive trying all these things for little itty bitty "Items".
My tissue test was done with watered down Elmers glue. Tissue kind of came apart.

Steve and Stephen, I actually used Delta Ceramicoat! This is an acrylic used in painting ceramics. Thick enough to brush on and shape and easy to clean up the edges. Just brush them smooth. The description is on Internet modeler, I don't remember the month and year so a search might be necessary. IHTH,
RAGIII
PS. Look at the first page of Stephens SE5A build thread. He posted pictures of my Ill fated 1/32nd SE that may show the technique in progress.

Rick, thanks for that. I woulda been running all over for Gessa........Guessaitwontwork.....
I have to make a trip to the craft store shortly, so it is now on my list.....unless I get some tissue to behave......DOWN SIMBA!!!! I said DOWN!!!
Brushing up the edges is what has my attention with the Ceramicoat. I think i could even get Elmers white glue to work..........but it tends to get a hard line at the edges.

Steve,
The way this one is turning out I'm not sure if you need the wrinkles but I know you can pull it off. You're another of our artisans at work, or play! This is really turning out to be an outstanding G.B. I wonder if this G.B could see the light of day as a publication?!!!!
