Eileen looks good.

Got my checks for the tail and the codes for the rudder printed for the Camel.
Cut em out and laid them on. Looking very nice and smart.

Brushed a bit of microset on them. Hmmmm thats a bit goopy? The others were OK. Try some more microset. Hmmm even more goopy. Why is the paint melting? Awww crap that's not microset......

Liquid Decal Film comes in the same bottle!!! Man that stuff makes a mess. The decals and paint around the tail all melted. It washes off with water and toothbrush, thank God. What is in that stuff? Never used it before.

Got it back ship shape and then prompted dropped the plane pinging off the U/C before I could take a pic. Luckily the brass rod and thread held. Will be easy fix to glue the U/C back on. I think I'll leave it alone for a day though!

This has been the hardest build ever! A little Revell Camel who'da thunk it!

Hi all!

Last night, Disaster struck!

Or was it the evil modelling Gremlins, lurking under my table?

Decaling have been a treat, and the new Tamiya decals worked like a charm!

But, when I was going to put the last checked decal on the cowling, the soapy, egg-shaped cowling decided to take a flight across the room!
There I sat with a stupid look across my face and the decal between my fingers!
Yes, the decal was beyond all rescue and I made a real mess out of it!

This means, as you all can understand, that I can’t complete this model (I already have a new one on order), until I have got a decal to replace the one I destroyed!

Here would the decal that went AWOL have been;

Desperately I searched in my stash, and come up with this little kit;

Yes, the scale is small (1/144) but it’s a real gem of a kit, and you get two of ´em in the box!

I’ll replace my 1/48 kit with this, and the small scale gives me a chance to complete within the timeframe!

Hope it’s OK with you, I believe 1/144 was allowed, Right??

Quite a lot of parts in the small seize box!

One kit more properly laid out;

As you can see, there are three different props, separate dorsal fin, antennas, pylons, bombs and rocket tubes if one would desire!

I started building right away!

Fit is excellent and in no time flat, I had the airframes completed!

One of the two will be Col. Mayo’s (the one with the checked cowling) and the other Col. Eaglestons famous mount!

I opened up the holes for the rocket tubes and glued the pylons for the bombs on Eagleston´s mount.

Landing gears assembled;

A quick swipe with a sanding stick over the joins, and then an overall polishing before the paint!

I used AlcladII, wonderful paint, directly on the plastic, with excellent result;

A Hamilton Standard prop for Eaglestons mount;

….and a Curtiss Electric Asymmetric Paddle blade for Mayo’s;

The Alclad paint dries very quickly, and after a day or so, it’s fully cured, and decaling could begin;

Mayo’s WZ * P, a machine from the same outfit (and the same timeframe) as my “Eileen” (WZ * S , flown by Frank Oiler), same checked cowling (and this time the gremlins missed the opportunity!!).

Glenn Eaglestons mount, FT * L;

Now, I’m going to concentrate on Mayo’s aircraft, as it’s the only one appropriate for the theme of this campaign.

Well, This was a “throw-together quick-build”, took me only a few days, but these kits are gems, easy to build and with perfect fit, still with lots of detail and many (and correct) options!

That’s it, folks!

Now I will go on building a Thunderbolt in 1/32 for the Thunderbolt campaign (“Dressed to kill”)!

Terri; Thanks for running this campaign so well!
I had a fun time and enjoyed my build(s) very much!

I promise to show “Eileen” here, when she’s done!

Cheers!

Hi Steffen
Outstanding recovery from disaster. I am very impressed with the 1/144 P-47's and as you say there are two in the same box. Well done mate. You should be mentioned in dispatches.

Those tiny bolts are really cool.
However you dont need decals for the cowl for Eileen . Paint the checks. Strips and tapers of masking tape is all you need. If I can it do anyone can. If that was the Academy 1/72 Eileen I'll port you the decals if you like.

Finished Cobby's Camel E7267. Quite happy with finishing it. I could weather it but I prefer this particular one nice and crisply clean.

Are you off to the Optometrist now JP? Working on something that small would be a big eye strain..

Lovely build.

Same with those micro-'Bolts..

Wow you've a long memory. Yep that and the 109 are getting decalled this week.

Then back to the Airfix Sunderland. THen the Airfix MG, then the Trumpter Wyvern. Once I'm through all that. Then I'll start something new. 5-6 unfinished builds is too many.

Hi all!

WOW, Jaypee!

Taht little camel is wonderful, and you have painted every tiny square, I´m truly impressed!

Very nice work!

My Thunderbolt was in 1/48, so the decal won´t fit!
But many thanks for the offer.

Glad you liked the "smaller ones", altough they are small the kits is "full-grown" in detail, and a real treat!
Just try any of the kits from PLATZ or SWEET, you will be impressed!

Cheers!

Stefan E

I have another Tamiya 1/48 Thunderbolt orderd, so I´ll get my spare decal!
Plus the oppurtunity to build yet another colorful Thunderbolt!

Hi Terri

Just a question: Did you already award ribbons? .. just curious as I did not get one and the campaign ended last week ... but I must confess that I did not follow the campaign closely I just watched the pix and did not read the texts ( I'm just too lazy...) so I probably jump the gun

all the best

you see Steffen, Terri was kind enough to allow the ones like me -the ones that sign in way too many campaigns- to finish our build. So, be patient, enjoy life, the time will come for you to have your ribbon

Happy Modeling.

Thanks Tim

you see, I normally also need the extension, so I am perfectly o.k. with that!!!!!!!!

The problem is, that my picture accout is pretty full and thus I did not post a pic in the campaign gallery ... but i have a feature so I thought this is no problem, but it makes me a bit nervous when I do not get a ribbon. Also other leaders award the ribbon when the campaign is done to those that did finish (so they only have to watch the stragglers)...

cheers

this is a 3M "invisible" tape, is mostly use in offices, it came in little rolls, around here you can get it at any library like office depot. it is very useful to cover canopies as you can see beneath it.

my Thypoon is already painted, is in the barley grey overall scheme, with a blue tail. I see this tail in an F-4 from this squadron that went to Nellis. Now, I think this will have to take one for the team as we have this low depression hiting us and there has been to much rain and humity. so I will have to put the decals just for the picture; remove them later and apply the right process . NO problem.

Happy Modeling

Well, here it is!! my Typhoon, this is the Italeri kit, I think the current releases of Italeri are great for this campaigns, they are easy to build, not quite expensive, a good selection, you only have to accept that they are not perfect; for me, I don't want perfect, I want models in my shelf
the picture was taken inside, not a very good one, hope it serves.

they are still things that need to be done, just details, -well, my father use to said that "the devil is in the details"-

Anyway; Terri, Thank you very much for the extra time

Happy Modeling

there is a saying my father had: "beauty is in the details"

therefor the devil must be responsible for beauty???

or is it beauty is the devil?
