Stefan, one remark about your lovely Spitfire, I think all Merlins had Gloss Black rocker covers. I have been know to be wrong before though..

Just added the photos of my completed Jug into the campaign photo gallery. Started the build about 2 weeks ago and finished it this morning. Not fast but the Hasegawa kit went together pretty well. They seem to have improved their decals as well as these gave me no trouble at all.

Oh well.. Back to the bench.. and (shudder) the Revell 1/32 Sea Venom. The blade aerials that sit underneath were more like blob aerials so I have scratched all five of them. So much for OOB!!

Hi All!
Now we can enjoy the beautiful lines of the Spitfire!
I realize that I misjudged the complexity and building time needed for this kit, and I won´t be done in time!

personally I think we could have told you that Stefan - this looks less like a model kit than a quite amazing piece of (plastic) engineering.. ! Super work thus far ..and thanks for all the great pics

Update on my progress:

paper masks for dark green camo:

Dark green on:

Black port wing in progress - I had no appropriate type roundel for the yellow outlined one over the black, so i used a decal with the yellow border that was the right size and then sprayed white to cover the blue so it will not show thru the white area of the next decal I will install on top of it.

Hi all!

@ Warren, I had no idea, I just painted the enginge as per Tamiya´s instructions!

But I have that nugget of info tucked deep in my brain now, so my next Tamiya Spitfire kit will be painted that way!

Yes, I have Yet another Spitfire kit to build!
When is another matter!

Glad you liked her!

Cheers!

Just got a base coat of paint on my Mig so I doubt I'll be finished by Thursday I'll be looking for an extension I suppose.

and my update for the day:

decals on. the markings are from Sky Models decals. Yet again I have found that the markings are somewhat over-sized by maybe 10% (3rd time I've come to this conclusion), so I am beginning to think this is a systematic problem with them, which is a shame given the interesting markings and large variety they give you on a single sheet. also the squadron codes are too close to white in my opinion.

applied a sludge wash and have wiped it off most of the port side.

Neil – Painting job looks good to me; I for sure cannot do mottle. Congrats on the finish!

Jesper – very nice job and congrats on the 1:1 and wedding! I am celebrating my 20th anniversary this weekend : ) your final spread of pics are great, love learning a tad of history with each build. Paint job is great.

Steffen – paint job looks superb, glad you were able to finish it!

Tom – The spot job on your Ju88 is fantastic! Love seeing all these paint jobs I can only dream about cheers.

Vance – pit looks great, very well done. Progress pics look great, I wish I could take such good pics!

Felipe – bienvenido! Hey Chile was quite impressive in the WC, loved their attacking style. Brasil was just better, but you guys played tremendo futbol! … anyways, I use Future/Klear over MM metalizers before, no problem. The dullcote after decals if needed. I have never tried Alclad or Talon; I am sure they are better than the MM metalizers; I find that I have to keep stirring the paint, and sometimes easier/better resuls if I actually brush the paint (freshly stirred) rather than AB.

Fred – very well done; ditto on the great spread of pics, both historical and the build.

Stefan – great build and detailing..as a hobby returnee and newbie, I thank you for taking the time to post and take so many pics, lots of good stuff there.

Warren – congrats on the finish; nice looking jug. Great job on the markings!

Hey James, thanks for the welcoming and backup to the chilean team, i also think we play good, but that was all we could get.
well the US played really good too, i think its amazing how much you've inproved since 1990-1994
(sorry for the off-topic)

Russell, yes its the academy kit, its pretty cheap, but has nice details, even has the wooden floor in the cockpit, and you can get nice results from it. im glad you like it, thanks:).

great work to everybody, nice working with you all in this great campaing.

Kind Regards

Well, it's still July 1 somewhere...

Ju88C-6 flown by Maj. Heinrich Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. Wittgenstein accumulated 83 victories prior to his death in April 1944, making him the 3rd highest-scoring night fighter ace. I believe all of his kills were obtained at night. On 3 occasions he downed 5 or more aircraft in a single night. Photo from "I.Gruppe Nachtjagdgescheder 2," H.Roekker, VDM, 1997

This is the Dragon/DML kit with Owl decals. The Owl decals stick a little TOO well - hence my tail hakenkreuse didn't make it into the right position initially and I couldn't get it back up (I had already torn and had to replace another decal and wasn't in a gambling mood).

Great campaign, guys! I'll send more specific kudos later for the rest of you lot, but for now it's off to bed...

WoooHooo, ribbon #5 for me !! Thanks for a super Campaign Nige, I had a great time on the Gladiator and really enjoyed everybody else's builds. The pics of the original aircraft and the brief bio add a whole new dimension.

Roll on ACES III (but not for a year or two please, I'm in about 4 million other campaigns right now)

Well done all, D
