Hi all
Nice Hurricane Steve, which kit is it? Stefan what can I say about that cockpit. I had to check twice you were not doing a full size one. Excellent work so far.

very nice Steve....

time to give these RAF types a Battle of Britain opponent. This will hopefully be Helmut Bennemann's 'black 5' from I./JG 52. Bennemann achieved 90 odd victories. He returned his first on 26 August 1940 when he claimed a Spitfire near Dover. He shot down three Hurricanes on Adlertag to record his sixth through eighth victories. This is my first ever build of the Tamiya 1/48th kit - too easy really I know, but I was just looking to put something together quickly before the new Airfix Emils arrive. BTW the 'Batailles Aériennes' two part special on JG52 is available from Lela Presse - highly recommended for a great collection of superb photos (450+) and artwork on the Luftwaffe's highest scoring Geschwader for 26 euros (each issue 13 euros)

started this on Sunday and got some paint on today !

Hi all.
Well I am done with this project. Really enjoyed this kit no real problems with it. I forgot to modify the fuel tank though.

Thanks Damian. The 1:1 is our new kitchen that I am building. Just put in the window and doors and in the process of demolishing the shed that was in front.

Q – Looking good and definitively beat me to the finish line! I was thinking of painting the checkerboard instead of decaling, but I do not have the time. Love the BBD pic you included, I may steal it, never seen that one before Really niec job, congrats on the finish.

Tom – Really good job on the Ju88; great techniques to get all those parts to fit nicely!

Stefan – Really nice work on the pit; decals look great!

Tim – The Hellcat looks great. I think the paint scheme is good. Congrats on the finish!

Fred – Good progress; I was also thinking of hand-marking pre-shading, instead of AB. I will give it a go, see how it comes out.

Here is my meager progress:

The Revell P-51D 1:48 kit is “good enough”, and usually found at half the price of Tamigawa offerings. However, several parts have sink holes that must be filled. The prop assembly also needs filling/sanding. Ready for priming:

No, you are not seeing double and I am not kitbashing a twin P51 : ) I am building two at the same time.

The exhaust part has a center mold line that I usually sand down. However, I found pics in the Kagero P-51D TopShots book that show a large weld line on the exhausts:

Therefore, I decided not to sand that line this time, see how it works out:

I did bore out the exhausts with the tip of a new blade (on the right; left is OOB):

Currently, I am about to spray primer on all the parts that I fixed.

Looking good thus far JM. I left mine completely the way it came out of the box, sink marks, knock out marks and all. I had no intention of ever competing with it so they stayed. I did sand down the more prominent ones though...I'm not that lazy. What are the markings going to be for the second one? Is that for Terris campaign? Steal away on the pic. Found it using a Google image search. "Q"

...liking the Hellcat Tim ! ..and there's some nice 'Stangs here too.

got some more paint on my 109. Using White Ensign Luftwaffe colours but didn't like their 02 - looked far too 'tan' for me. Have misted some 'green' over it. Weird scheme, the blue is heavily mottled but the nose right up to the cockpit was bright yellow !..

Just landing gear, stab braces/flaps and various sundry bits to go then: jobs-a-good-un.

I only have a few decals left on my P-38 and she'll be ready. I'm leaving for a weeks vacation tonight but I'll be back on the 26th so finishing on time shouldn't be an issue.

Well, now that I finally finished my build for the Aluminum Campaign, I've spent the weekend knocking out my 48th scale Hasegawa Hawker Hurricane Mk I. Mostly out of the box except for some Eduard pre-colored seat harnesses (so far - it will have after market wheels and exhausts too)).

except for correcting a problem the kit has with where the fabric fuselage covering meets along part seams and blending the gun ports in with the wing, the build was quick and easy up till now.

I will be finishing it as F/O McKnight's aircraft with the skeleton on the sides.

Hopefully I can find enough time to finish her before the deadline.

Looks good, Fred. A very nice bird.

I have made some more progress and I am finally getting close to the finish line. Small details like my wedding and a new house delayed me a bit.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures. The final pictures will be in daylight.

Congrats Jesper. Best wishes to both of you. And you still find time for modelling work!

I keep meaning to check out your thread Steffen. The end result is looking well. I like the variation on the solid colour.

Wasn't real happy with the stripes on Neckels mount so I've changed tack. Gone are the dodgy stripes and a plain
black Fokker emerges. That of Von Schliech.

I'll do a striped scheme some other time.

I thought it might be nice to let some of the lozenge show through the black to break up the single colour a bit.

What you think? Better?

I still need to find a photo or description of this plane though

Hello all-
Checking in as paint dries on my Ju88...

Q - Awesome Mustang. Definitely a case of, "It's the modeler, not the kit."

Stefan - Thanks for obliging us on more Spitfire photos. Looks like 1 whole model's worth of work just on the 'pit alone!

Tim - Nice Hellcat. Saved a copu of your pix as one day I will do those same markings on that same kit.

Jaypee - Like the lozenge showing through the black on your D.VII...

Jesper - The Fw190 looks good, but looking forward to more photos. Looks like wedding nerves got a hold of you on one photo.

Steffan - Ihr Hellcat schaut gut! Great job bringing life to a monochrome subject. I think solid colors are the hardest paint job to get to look right.

Ooops-
I forgot MY evidence of progress...

Got the spots on Wittgenstein's Ju88C-6. My hand almost went numb holding the airbrush through a long evening of mottling, to say nothing of my head...

With the hardest part out of the way, I'm actually getting confidence I will make the deadline now.

Hi Tom

That Hellcat is a Wildcat but thank's for your kind comment!

Nice looking Ju 88 you have there! how will you do the antenna mount on the rudder fin? Is there an extra part included?

cheers

@Tom: Its nice seeing that JU 88 build. How did it go together for you? I've heard its fussy and its kept me from pulling it off of the shelf (even though it looks so tempting).

Any particular difficulties?

Progress report: I should be finished tonight. (just have to weather the wheels and put on the landing gear covers.)

Should, hopefully, post pics of completed submission this evening.

Cheers,
Fred
