Great entry, Tom. A beautiful bird and a very significant one in the night airwar.

After seeing everyone elses entries I feel ashamed to post pictures of mine.

Anyway, here she is. This is the mount of Capt. John Loisel flying with the 475th FG. Hope the pictures aren't too bad.

Thanks for a great campaign Nige.

Hermon, in the words of the great philosopher Ren Hoek, "You are an idiot." That is a great build mate! You should be proud of it.

Remember, this hobby is supposed to be about fun, not putting one's self down just because something doesn't look EXACTLY like the original. I have seen many models on many websites that others have hailed as fantastic models, but I wouldn't give you two cents for..

Chin up Hermon!

Thanks Warren, I really appreciate that. I guess it's just dissapointing to me that I didn't get to spend the time on this kit that I had planned due to work and life in general.

Just presenting some evidence that I am still making some progress despite deadlines at work:

The I decided the decals for the squadron codes were too close to white and that this bugged me too much, so I masked them off and sprayed them in light gray. subtle difference, but it makes me much happier:

A few more smaller parts on, such as landing gear:

I lost the covers for the landing lights. After hours of cleaning the hobby room and searching, i decided I will have to fashion them out of heat formed clear plastic. Here is where I am with that as of this morning - I streched the plastic over the leading edges, to be trimmed when i have some more time:

Hermon - very nice build, congrats on the finish! Great looking P-38!

I am working on the pit of my P-51D; will post pics when I get back from vacation.

Had a bottle of MM enamel chromate (interior) green go "bad"; never seen that before! The paint was hard and adding thinner did nothing; the actual pigments coagulated into a thick and hard lump. Had to wait to order another one and spray the interiors.

I'm interested how you get on the light covers I've been experimenting with sellotape for a similar problem. Never though of heating plastic to stretch over the wing. Keep us posted.

Hi
I've recently done 2 Spitfires for the campaign - Airfix 1/72 Mk IXc in Johnnie Johnson's markings and the AZ Models 1/72 Mk IIa in Douglas Bader's markings. I have posted them in the campaign gallery. I also accidently uploaded 2 pics of my Ki-84, can someone tell me how to delete them or can any site admin people do that for me?

thanks
Mike

All sorted.
Don't forget to add photos of the actual aircraft in order to qualify for the campaign ribbon

Hi

I'm finding it hard to track down pics of the 2 Spitfires in question. I can find colour plates and artwork featuring them but not pics of the actual planes. For example, I have the late Mk Spitfire Aces book and their is only a colour plate of Jonnie Johnsons 2nd Mk IX. Would things like this be acceptable or is it really strict on them being pics of the actual planes?

thanks
Mike

Hi Mike.
Sorry, photos only I'm afraid.
This has been in place since the first Aces Campaign and it wouldn't be fair to make an exception.
I'm surre you'll come up with a photo of at least one of them
Anybody know of one?

I've got a photo of Johnson with his Labrador in front of a Mk IX at an advanced landing ground in France in July 1944, would that be the one ??

I'm having some camera problems so I can't post the pic just now.

just to show I am making a little progress despite hectic work deadlines...

I have the home-made landing light covers on now. the starboard one when smoother as i did it second - the port one i had to sand down and polish out after fitting it, but learned my lesson and got the other one spot on:

that is the last big hurtle - i hope. after retouching the port wing and getting the wheels on, only a few small things like the doped gun ports, antenna masts, and pitot tubes to deal with.

Mike, unfortunately the shot is almost front on and focused on Johnson, but it's a 4-bladed prop, and invasion stripes and yellow leading edge on the starboard wing are clearly visible. I will post the pic once I get camera dramas sorted.

Cheers, D
