Hi everybody and welcome to Aces High Two!
There are four weeks to go until our start date of Jan 1st 2010.
The campaign page, rules and regs can be found HERE
Its also the place to go if you want to enlist.
I'm going be building the P-51B of Ralph "Kidd" Hofer, the enigmatic 4thFighter Group ace.
Im hoping to use the Tamiya Mustang MKIII kit, as I intend to depict "Salem Representative" with the Malcolm Hood. If this isnt a suitable kit for the P-51B could somebody please let me know
The decal sheet is from LifeLike.
Reference will be primarily taken from Troy Whites book. Kidd Hofer-The last Of The Screwball Aces

I am also not sure yet .. a full stack of aces (well, 99% of it)
Tamiya Mustang (Lt. Henry Brown "The Hun Hunter from Texas" with a bunch of goodies from Czech and Canadian companies)
HobbyBoss MiG-17F (Nguyen Van Bay; Aires +Quickboost -- picture will be difficult) and
HB/Vector FM-2 (McElroy, Funk or McGraw; Vector and Ultracast Seat ... maybe will add Eduard Zoom for the instr. panel)
are high on the list though I need to find pictures for every of them ... and I have a bunch more kits...
cheers

I've been thinking of this one as well. I'm leaning towards the Brewster B-239 of Ilmari Juutilianen at this stage, with winter distemper camo.
But that could still change.

Ok, I've found a candidate that's a bit left of centre for me . . .
This kit has the marking options for 4 aces, and I'm leaning towards the markings for the ace with the coolest name ever, Marmaduke Thomas St John Pattle (Pat to his friends). I cannot find evidence of any kill markings on his Gladiators, and now I just have to find a good photo to qualify !!
Cheers, D

Hey all, does anyone have a photograph of the A6M2 type 21 piloted by Saburo Sakai? The only images of it I can find are either illustrations or photos of scale models. Thanks

I'm going to be building the MkVIII Spitfire belonging to Captain Clive Caldwell while base in Morotai in 1945. He wqs the highest scoring Australian Ace of WW2 with 28.5kills, 22 in North Africa and 6.5 against the Japenese fllying the Spitfire.
I'll be using ICMs offering of their MkVIII as well as AM decals. Quick look at the kit shows a fair bit of flash so be interesting to see what the fits going to be like. Lucky it was the right price

Ok, I found my pic of L8011/YK-O in the Osprey book on Gladiator aces. . . . .
Sorry for the quality Pattle flew this Gladiator in 1940 and then in December of that year it was passed on the the Royal Hellenic Air Force.
Cheers, D

ICM do a 'Hofer' B - which I did have lined up for this - FWIW it's the same kit inside their Mustang III boxing...gonna have to look at another 4th FG machine now probably...

Pretty much decided on my subject for this one. Actual pilot may change, but the model kit won't. Probably will do Ilmari Juutilianen's Orange 4 with winter distemper, but you never know when the time comes i may just do one of the lesser modelled Finnish Brewster aces...there are plenty to choose from.

My efforts so far today on the Brewster. It's a rather tricky fitting kit that is going to take a bit of care to get the fuselage halves together.
