but the stripes are showing through the top roundels

Bummox ,I've put a plea out for a spare set so I can double them up,otherwise I'm knackered

It should be relatively easy to isolate the inner circle and spray with a little insignia red actually (blue looks fine in the pics). Go get a drafting template with circles and mask off the ones you don't need and spray right thru the correct sized one (or use it to cut out a mask if you prefer) - they are cheap (certainly cheaper than another set of decals):

You'll even have a chance to make the red look a little faded that way, which tends to look really good.

Thank you for the kind comments on my build guys.

Ken: Your 110 is outstanding!
Pedro: Thank you for the advice.
Aaron: Nice work thus far, your build is coming along nicely.
Andy: Wow! The Mossie looks great. Where so you plan to display it?

I have completed decaling my 110, and adding the wash to the panel lines. I wanted a subtle effect so I opted for a brown wash rather then a darker color. I took the photos while the wash was drying, so I still have to touch up the wash a bit. The close up of the tail fin displays my attempt to simulate the historic paint job of this particulair aircraft which had its upper surfaces painted in RLM75 then overpainted with RLM76 leaving a blotched appearance. It did not come off as well as I had hoped, but it is functional.

A question to our dear campaign leader. Damian, is a campaign extension planned? The reason is that I'm seeing beautifully completed Bf 110s and think to myself whether I should give one final attempt to my doomed Bf 110D to turn the tide. Still, it's a far cry and if an extension is not planned I will not bother and rather concentrate on my other builds.

Great progress, Andy. The markings look great and nice move to avoid the stripes showing through - otherwise really visible in that scale.

Ernest, very cool night fighter.

Looking forward to see more

The Bf110G4 is finished. While I upload the photos here are a few shots of the plane after I sprayed the matt coat. The pictures of the completed build will follow shortly.

And here is the completed product. Not one of my best builds, but not one of the worst either. On a scale of 1-6 I give it a 3.

Great build, Ernest! I will give it a 6 on your scale. The camouflage and the fine details really came out very nice.

Nice to enjoy your finished products, but I'm afraid I'm not able to finish mine before the Oct 30th deadline. I've been out of town the last two months and have just done the major assembly:

Well don't you just LOVE the flurry of activity in the last few days of a Campaign ???

Russell, nice finish on the '88, it's great to blow the cobwebs out with a speed build now and again.

Kenneth, great photo's, well done once again on a super build.

Aaron, dazzling scheme my friend, looking good.

Torchy, AWESOME !! Great recovery on the roundels, and thanks for the hint Vance, I'll store that one away in the memory banks.

Ernest, beautifully finished sir. I have really enjoyed watching your progress on this build, and the scheme is really striking. Well done and thanks for sharing your progress with us.

eMan, your 410 is coming along nicely, I'm looking forward to seing it with some colour.

Emre and Jiang, I wasn't planning on formally extending the Campaign, but as always I would love for you guys to continue your builds and post the results here in your own time. I will certainly still award your ribbons once you are done. I know real life can interrupt our hobby, and I would rather see your builds finished to your own satisfaction and desired standard and not being shelved or rushed through to meet a deadline. Please keep going with them.

Jiang, I might be biased because the P-61 is the best looking aircraft ever built, but your Widow is looking great so far.

Current state of play, 47 enlisted, 14 in progress and 16 completed. I have updated the Roll Call/Build Status post on page 1, so please take a look and let me know if I've got any details wrong.

Cheers, and good luck with the run home !

Eman, nice build so far on the Me410.

Jiang, the P61 is looking good. It is a cool nightfighter to be sure.

Hope I'm not breaking any written or unwritten rules here, but I thought I would share a few photos of a He219 diorama that I did last December. I have not posted this build on Aeroscale, and I thought it would fit well in this thread. The aircraft represents one flown by Oblt Heinz Strüning. The scene shows the port engine being changed the day after it had failed during a combat mission the previous night. The kit is the excellent Tamiya one and I added an Aires cockpit set, CMK engine and other aftermarket airfield equipment. If anyone is interested, I took photos of the build's progress and can post them also.

Ernest

Ernst, this would make fantastic feature article. It would get your build onto the front page and let everyone know that it's there to look at.

I'll be taking you up on that offer as well - I wound up obsessing over building a more accurate C-6 cockpit and gondola and time just kinda got away from me.

I'll post a build update once the gallery is working again (or i decide to use some other photo hosting service finally)

I'm just going to scrape in I think. Working on the last of the canopy now. Masking is still my problem. I have switched to Humbrol mask (the pink one) and its better, but I am still not neat enough with it when it comes to canopies and it does let me down. Moreso on this than my other two completed builds. I did a 1/48 Val for the Midway campaign and while the Val has a lot of glass its all in square panels mostly, and a 1/72 FW-190 for the out of the box campaign. The 190 has big glass and not that many line. Neither were perfect but they look ok for my skill level. The problem with the 410 is it has some curvy glass and that's been messing with me. Mine has definitely not turned out to be historically accurate. Striking yes, unmistakable in its neon green, but not historically accurate. I'll get there one day.

Some very awesome builds here though. I have saved some pics for inspiration for what can be done with a kit with the know how, the right tools, patience and lots of talents.

I have a couple of pics to post and will get them all up before the end date.

ok, trying out imageshack, even though the local image gallery seems to be back up.

So the Dragon Ju 88C-6 cockpit is just not up to the task. the basics that are shared with the A-4 are fine with a little extra attention, but they totally drop the ball on the mess of ammo boxes that live in the C-6 cockpit

here is the beginning of my upgrade in that respect (more details later, once i finish the cockpit):

I decided to jazz up the rear wall of the cockpit. the unfinished side is concealed by the radios that I have yet to re-install:

I decided the shape of the forward gondola fairing was wrong, so I added some epoxy putty and shaped it once dry. you can also see the modification (shell ejection chutes and blast ports) I made to the gondola in the shots below. The front may still be a little too wide, but it's profile is much improved in my opinion. I also scratch built some MG FFs to go in the gondola, but they are mostly hidden now. I since found a technical drawing that tells me I put the gondola guns a little too close together (great...), but oh well - seems i did fairly well in their placement as guessed by examining grainy photos otherwise.

Ernest, the only unwritten rule I have is "Show me more pictures." Well, I suppose it's written now so I've covered both bases. That's a really nice dio you've built, and I will echo Jessie in putting that one forward for a feature ! Thanks for posting the pics for us.

Vance, keep at it mate, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress whenever you get the chance.

Aaron, good to hear that you are still going there. I'm not sure if you have tried it yet, but a few people I have seen using very thin masking tape (2mm width) to give a good clean edge around the frames, and then fill the rest of the glass panel with Maskol (or similar). That way you don't have to be too neat with the liquid mask.

Cheers, D

It's going to be a squeaker, but the Mosquito NF.XIX will be done for the deadline. I've barely had time to sit down at the desk over the last 2.5 months so the build stagnated until earlier this week.

Airfix Mosquito NF.XIX 1/72 by mawz_models, on Flickr

And today I started decalling, unfortunately the decals live up to the worst of Airfixe's rep. Thick and nearly transparent.

Airfix Mosquito NF.XIX 1/72 by mawz_models, on Flickr

I'd actually like to build another of these kits, likely as the FB.IV the kit actually is (the radar nose is a conversion sprue included in the kit, you have to cut off the FB.IV nose). But I'll definitely go aftermarket for decals if I do.
