Me? Sorry, no can do. All the FAF-operated single-seat fighters had the standard Swedish-type paintjob. The two-seat trainers were in natural metal, though.

Ready for primer.
Right after taking these pics I primed the thing - I'll start painting with pre-shading tomorrow. (well, more like "later today", as it's 1 AM already...)
Among the last smaller parts to be primed was the exhaust nozzle, which had two unexplained notches along the rim. No reference photos I've seen have this feature, so they had to go. To minimize the sanding needed on the inside as much as possible, I lined the inside with tape, then applied super glue.
After carefully removing the tape, I only had to sand two sides of the CA blobs to shape.
The finished part looks like this.
Primer will reveal how well my filling attempt worked. Hopefully there's little to no further work needed.
And next it's painting time!

Lots of Builds moving quickly toward the finish line!
Took my Fw190d-9 back to the paint booth and have emerged with ver.2.2
Im building Hans Dortenman's JG26 Black 1, so next will be the yellow tail and under cowling, then on to gloss and decals
...Actually it might do me some good to fix the antenna post on the tail!!!

Really nice work on the camo! Looking forward to seeing it done. Btw, is it all done freehand?
One last update from me before starting to paint. Now who doesn't like the look of a freshly primed model?
Here's what I'm planning to use as main colors.
Neutral grey for the bottom, brown violet (weird name, looks more like OD to me...) and black green for the top surfaces. And if the brown violet turns out looking to brown, I'll treat it with some Russian uniform green.

A primed model is a beautiful sight... as long as its not showing of a pesky blem in the finish, as mine often do!
Eetu, yes I did the camo on my D-9 freehand, with a lot of touch ups and over painting. I think it helped with the look now that its done. 2 of the 3 know pics of this bird show the immediate cockpit on the left side, so I tried my best to duplicate the finish and the rest was best guess. I find its pretty difficult trying to reproduce something someone did randomly.
Im glad to see your ready for paint as well cant wait to see how it comes out! The brown violet if im not mistaken is a Luftwaffe color rlm 81 and ranged from brown to OD. Ive not used those paints but Id imagine it will look more OD.
Thankfully work was done early today and I got the yellow portions masked and sprayed, so here she is in her full color glory. Ive got some touch ups to do before gloss coat and decals over the weekend

P-51 update
I started to paint some of the mettalics on parts individually. Im using Alclad paints just to bare plastic. It sticks but is not durable.
Because im using Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints with are bascially laquer type, if i wanted to apply an oil or enamel based wash, I would need to first apply a protective coat of kleer or similar acrlylic varnish. But in the case of the cockpit and engine I just want to move on. So I decided to use these acrylic washes from Vallejo
The other stuff that im doing is drybrush of the parts with mettalics i really like these Mr Color paints for this and I use bronze and iron for most of the highlighting.
the fuselage was joined together
you cant really see much of the instruments and thats why I did not do a full scale weathering job in areas you cant see.
best

Great job on the Mustang, looking very nice!
How are those Vallejo washes, good stuff? I've seen those in modeling shops but I haven't given them a try yet.
Another thing, are the Mr. Color metallics also good for regular brush-painting? Are they acrylic or enamel?
Mike, that paintjob of yours looks much more accurate than I managed on my 1:72 scale model of the same subject. Great job.
Had a good airbrushing day yesterday - got the preshading, and underside grey and upper brown violet painted. Looks like this at the moment. I've sprayed a coat of Future to protect the paint, as Vallejos aren't the most durable paints out there.
Under the model is a scan of Revell's painting instructions I printed out make notes to. Comparing Revell's to Hasegawa's instructions featuring the same aircraft, I found that both have some parts of the camo pattern more accurate than the other, but both also have some inaccuracies. Comparing both to photos I could find of the real thing I hope to get the camo pattern done close enough.
Next I'll mask and paint the second upper camo color.

Another update on my XF-92A speedbuild.
I detailed the pilot a little bit with a red helmet and some mixed enamel flesh color (flat white and light tan). Tough to see through the attached canopy in photos due to the glare but it cleans up nicely. Throughout the whole process I have been filling and sanding the wing roots which needed a ton of work.
I then masked and painted the control surfaces and jet exhaust with some leftover TS-17 gloss aluminum from my large scale F1 build. Also painted the display base with some leftover TS-10 French Blue. Once the aluminum cures for a day or two I will mask it and apply the fine white primer, which hopefully will be the last step before a gloss coat.

Howdy everyone.
spent the last couple of days painting my 2 1/144 scale F-104's I am just doing the simple paint job called out by the instructions. wing tops white, under wings aircraft gray, rest in aluminum.
also got the Canadian one decaled up.. some of those were tiny tiny...
here is the standard photo, I'll try to get the other one done tomorrow, a few details and I'll be ready to fly em..
later

Hi Eatu - and also a great build on the Draken - I did not even know there was 72 scale one. I really like the camo colours that you have used.
Van - well done its really moving forward.
to answer questions - the vallejo washes are not as fine as an oil wash, you need to dilute them with water also. But if you want to avoid having to apply kleer each and every time - I think they do the job.
Mr Color metals are lacquer based I think. Yes they do brush paint very very well, I use them often to paint details and smaller parts.

Thanks! I'm quite happy with the camo colors myself too. Or was, until I got the black green painted.
The colors appear a little different in the photo, but in reality, that black green turned out to be too bright and too green, making the brown violet look brown. I'll have to go over the black green with another color to tone it down. And possibly also overspray the brown violet with something to make it a little bit greener, if treating the black green isn't enough.
Talking of 1:72 Drakens, there's also the old Airfix kit. Raised panel lines, clunky details, but it depicts an earlier variant than Hasegawa. Though I'd still probably go with Hasegawa and aftermarket conversion parts were I to build and earlier Draken.
It's a shame how Hasegawa hasn't made any other variants of their Draken (either in 1:72 or 1:48, as far as I know), even though the engineering is a dead giveaway they were thinking about it. Separate rear fuselage, fin tip, engine intakes, fuselage cannon port plugs, etc.
Anyway, back to some more airbrushing.

Greets to All!
WoW! Some awesome builds here.
@Eetu- Cool build log, that will be a beauty!
@John- That's a beautiful Mustang, nice! Checkered bands do it every time.
@Steph- That Camel's a sweet bird ... Also a nice one.
@Jeff- Your Salamander is impressive, don't listen to the wife!
@Marcin- One word my friend - WOW!
@Muhammed- Cool Huey, perfectly done! "Get in da choppah!!!"
@Simon- Cool man! No worries it came out very nice.
@Richard- I've never seen that SeaMew kit, you did a great job.
@LapMan- That Hurricane absolutely rocks!
@Delbert- Sweet pair of 104's, I've never attempted 1/144 and those came out nice.
@Mark- Super Mustang, this will be beautiful after you're through.
@Yalym- The same for your Mustang, nicely done.
@Mike- I love the 190's, and you've done a great job w/ the pilot seat, cockpit, and that striking paint scheme.
@Van- Interesting contrasts, a BV 141-B and a XF-92! Looking good.
Thank you for the encouraging words, Russell and Richard, well put.
Which brings me (finally!) to my build. I'm having fun so far, a simple lil' kit by comparison
Here's the kit, its' contents and the aircraft...

Upon review, this Pfalz DIII kit (originally Aurora molds) has no provision for the guns under the cowling.
The DIIIa had them remounted above, to ease with clearing a jammed gun in-flight (so I've learned).
I'll only be adding some minor cockpit and engine detail, along with cowl openings for the guns. I dug out an old KB Pfalz and compared the two - KB/Aurora above w/ slots for the guns, and Glencoe's below w/o.

Made some bits for the cowl, sorry for the fuzzy image.
[/img]
An old kit I got long ago when I was like 13 or so

Thanks for viewing, and a fun campaign. One that I think is within my reach of completing
Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave, nice to hear you're liking it!
Interesting kit you got started on yourself too. Seems it has recessed surface detail. I'm a little surprised to see that on a kit from 1972.
I ended up redoing both upper camo colors with gloss sea blue and Russian uniform green, airbrushed freehand. For some reason, I got ugly coarse overspray with the Russian uniform green, so I had to go over the edges again with gloss sea blue. So that's redone almost one and a half times now. But now it's done, with a quick coat of Future on.
Next it's time to paint the natural metal belly section, fin and wing leading edges, as well as the landing gear bays. After that it's getting near decaling stage.

Nice-looking Spitfire you have coming up! How's the AZ Models kit, btw?
Whew, another day at the bench spent masking, then airbrushing somewhat tricky metallics. If you don't count the canopy, that's the last time I have to mask this model again. Yeah!
As an experiment, I painted the drop tanks with (now out of production) Hawkeyes Hobbies Talon acrylic aluminium, and the rest else is Citadel 'Mithril silver' thinned with LifeColor thinner and Future floor polish.
While the Talon paint makes a little bit better finish, it's much trickier to airbrush, wanting to clog the nozzle every chance it gets.
Next: decaling and painting all the smaller parts.

Nice Hawkeye Marcin !! iv just started that very same kit but ill be making my own decals for it
Thanks!
The kit is very nice with only few fit issues. Don't forget to add a lot of weight to nose and even under and behind cocpit as it is a real tail-sitter, especially with folded wings. I can't wait to see your version.

I'll have to take some of that masking talk back. Now these don't count either!
And neither does this antenna that goes on the spine.
I just have some small detail painting left to do in the gear wells and the RAT bay, and then it's time to bring out the Future. I hope to get the decals applied tomorrow.

Thanks for the compliments guys. It has been fun considering some stages of the built were awkward . By the way, is there a gallery where the photos can be posted?

Decaling underway. I think I might even get all of them applied today.
Upper surface decaling done, apart from a few that are to be placed next to the registry numbers, those I'll apply after giving the register numbers a coat of Future to avoid lifting them.
Here's roundels supplied in the kit next to the aftermarket replacements I used. In addition to the obvious, the too dark blue color, the kit decals also had a couple of size errors. The wing roundels used in the older markings style were about a millimeter too small in diameter, while the small (20 cm in real life) roundels used in the modern low visibility markings were too big by 1 millimeter. The error in the big roundels wouldn't probably be that noticable, but with the small ones, the error is quite significant.
Funny litte thing I noticed only now. They included the fin leading edge vent as a decal. Sorry, too late, already built that myself.
How many coats of white does it take to make the paint fully opaque? Well I did 9, maybe overkill but it looks good. Primed with Tamiya Fine White Primer, undercoat is Tamiya Matte White, top coats are Tamiya Pure White from a spray can. The original plan was to simply gloss over the primer, but I ran out before I could get full coverage and none of the local shops had the same type in stock so I had to improvise.
Then it sat for a day in suspense of whether there was any overspray. Luckily the tape edges were sealed down almost perfectly.
So now I too am onto the decal process. Underside first. The sheet that came with the kit is ancient so most of the decals are cobbled together from other kits... The real aircraft had very few stencils so it wasn't that difficult to mostly reproduce the decals that came with the kit.
I tried one of the original kit decals and they actually seemed to be useable if not for the fact that they were so terribly out of register the cut lines in the decal film go straight through the decals in many cases. There are two small decals on the original sheet that I need which are almost cut in half. Is it possible I could spray a layer of liquid decal film over the sheet to rejoin the stencils that were separated by the cut in the decal film? Amyone have experience with this?
