There's already a covey of wonderful completions in the Gallery, and there's still oodles of time to fill that room with the entire flock of pure fun builds. Great memories of Russell's cheerful efforts make it all the more fun.

For myself, I'm trying out new things with the CF-100 sent to me. One of them being BareMetal foil on the LG hydraulic shafts, and I might even try some brake lines with lead wire. It's all good, it's all fun.

A little more progress on the Lanc. Panel lines are drawn and all the clear parts were masked and painted. Masking turrets in 72 scale was a tad challenging to say the least. Anyway, weathering to follow.

Best wishes,

Ian

Well post shading is done and I have airbrushed on the exhaust stains which are very prevalent on Lancs. I also will be doing the "dot-weathering" on the upper wing surfaces since the photos in the Osprey Lancaster book show very heavy fading and weathering.

Best wishes,

Ian

......pulled some dot weathering out of the armor play book for the wings.

Best wishes,

Ian

Thank you Stephen. It's the Revell of Germany 72 scale MK I/III. It's really a nice kit and has been a joy to build.

Best wishes!

Ian

Of course! I recognise the way it breaks down now. I have the Dambuster boxing in my stash.

That Lanc is really coming out nicely, Ian. Well done!

I put quite a-bit of forward weight in the CF-100.

As I thought, not much will be seen in the cockpit area. Especially with an enclosed canopy. Just enough color to make one think there's something in the pit.

Thanks Ben! You CF-100 is shaping up nicely too. We will have a good RCAF showing for the campaign.

The tail was difficult; the inverted 'V' slot stabilizer had to be placed on one fin half first, and then the other fin half added after. There is issue's with the canopy as well:

Not straight:

Whoa!! Bird Strike!!

Guess I'll try filling that canopy hole with Humbrol ClearFix. I'm really quite sad about it; just don't know what happened.

The real shame is that we don't have a better kit of the canuck. I would buy it without hesitation if a modern kit appeared. She's a stately bird. You've got to see one in the flesh to really appreciate it.

Ian , beautiful job on the camo and weathering so far . That's a fair bit of masking on the clear parts , that alone would set me back weeks , not something I enjoy doing to much of ..

Hey Ben , nice to see some progress CF-100 . Very nice job on the cockpits with the paint . Sad about the canopy , hope you are able to fix this .

Terri-----Thanks! Yes, that was quite a bit of masking on the clear parts. That took most of Saturday to do but it's done. The weathering was fun, though.

Ben---Hope you can get the canopy fixed. Clear parts can be a challenge.

Best wishes,

@Ben : Its interesting to watch the CF-100 geting into shape, there are not that many building logs of this kit around.

@Ian : Great work with the oils on the Lanc. I will have to get that kit someday.

In the meantime I was able to finish the canopy. The fit is decent with the exception od the rear-part, where I had to plug a huge hole with plastic strips as can be seen in the pictures. The flaps on the otherhand fit perfectly. I dont recall ever having such nice fit on the flaps on any kit. The kit is now ready for some paint, but I have to stop the and wait for the canopy masks to arrive.

Naseby----Thank you!!! I highly recommend the RoG Lancaster kit. Your JU-88 really looks good. However, masking those bird cage canopies is a real treat. That was the trickiest part of the Lanc.

Best wishes,

Ian

Hi Ben,

Very sorry to see that. What about plugging the hole with a small piece of strip styrene?

Or try BSI (Bob Smith Industries) SUPER-GOLD and SUPER-GOLD, odorless CAs for attaching clear canopies in plastic model kits. I've used it without fogging canopies. (YMMV)

Otherwise, mask the canopy and putty that gap. Hang in there!

Well this one's for Russell

Russell would be proud of that "Jug".

His family and friends appreciate this campaign. I had dinner with his professor Dave last night. He is amazed with the entries.

Ben,

So sorry about your PC. This hummer I'm typing on is almost 4 years old. Need to prepare for something bad.

@Bob R.; I noticed the socket wrenches next to the Intruder; I know it's an old kit but do ya' really think it'll need those to coax parts together?

Hi all
The Sword 1/72 P-47N is going to by contribution to this Aeroscale tribute to Russell. There are some superb build logs for this one and reflects Russell’s interest in all things wingy.
This one is plucked from my stash in the loft. This is a really good looking mixed media kit. The excellent looking plastic is supported by some excellent looking resin and pre coloured photo etched parts. There are marking for three Thunderbolts all with the colour blue as a theme. Unfortunately Sword decided not to include the markings for “Pris’ n Prissy” featured on the back of the kit box. Instead there is the option to build “Little Joe”. As yet I have not decided which option to go for, although “Red-E-Ruth”, which is featured on the box front, is a hot favourite.Shamefully I have never built a P-47 before so hopefully this will be a good addition to my flight line.
I have soaked and washed all the resin and plastic parts. The high gloss finish of the plastic certainly looks a lot duller.
Anyhow as most of will know a good looking kit does not necessarily equate to a straight forward build. So let’s see how it goes.
All the best.
tim.

Hi all
The wings have some excellent looking resin undercarriage bays. Also the resin gun barrels look very good for this scale.
I added the wing spar and the detail for the tail wheel bay. I was initially disappointed with the fit of the forward bay wall in tha tail wheel bay. There is a bit of a gap at the bottom. I did a bit of research and discovered that the gap is actually an air vent for the super charger. I attached the internal cover for the inter cooler exhaust as well. The super charger cover below the fuselage is a separate part.
I could not resist trying the wing and fuselage fit. I was dubious how well the wing spar would support the wing. As you can see from the images it looks pretty good.
To be continued...

Some more progress has been made on my 'Tony' interior painted, washed and dry brushed. Now onto battling some pe for the instrument panel and getting that painted then should be able to close up the fuselage halves. Rather enjoying this build (so much so my Italeri 1/48 Hurricane has had the dust brushed off it and some more work done to it while waiting for this to dry)

Hi all
The cockpit was built up from plastic, resin and PE parts. The PE instrument looks good [Eduard] although there is a detailed plastic instrument panel as well. The back of the instruments have been represented, which is a nice touch. The resin seat needs a little flash trimming off. The seat has harnesses moulded onto it, but I preferred the PE alternative harnesses. So I have carefully sanded the resin harnesses off. There are two alternative gun sight mounts.
The two part resin engine looks rather good and there is PE pipe work to attach as well. The Pratt & Whitney R-2800-77 engines seemed to be primarily light grey in colour.
To be continued.

Tim-----Nice progress on your Jug. The moldings look really crisp.

Sam---The Tony is looking good thus far. I have heard the kit is really good.

I got the Lanc gloss-coated and the decals have been applied. The only thing better than one shark-mouth Rolls Royce Merlin is four of them. The RoG stencils from the kit were used as well. Even after eight years my Aeromaster Lanc sheet still held up well and the decals laid down with no issues. Some of the tell-tale white clouding is still visible in the pics since they are not completely dry.

Best wishes,

Ian

Really well done, Ian. I've seen those decals about, though, this is the first I've seen anyone use them. It's a very attractive scheme.
