I hadn't heard that. It's possible it had a conventional panel similar to the solid-nosed Ju 88G or Ju 388J (the latter introduced a standard blind-flying panel similar to a late Messerschmitt cockpits), but there'd be nowhere (or need) to mount the fully-glazed Ju 388L's arrangement.
It's equally likely that I've got the wrong information again (wouldn't be the first time for that). Given that it was thrown together to be used as a Mistel it's also possible that the cockpit might be pretty barren inside if not missing entirely.

Made some progress last night. I gotta say it was one of the best modeling sessions I remember ever having. It's really a pleasure working on Russell's P-51D. Thanks for sharing it with me, sorry you're missing it.
The instructions would have me paint the gauges gloss black and the panel flat black. I decided to go old school and paint the inserts white, then over paint the gauges gloss black and try to scratch faces out of the black.

Looks good, Mark.
Since I know this IP has raised bezels, I'm just wondering if this would be easier. Brush the whole thing white, then flat black; scratch out the instrument features. Then fill the bezels with future.
Just a suggestion thats worked for me before.

Good idea, I'm part way along as I've already dropped white paint into the gauge recesses. I may just go ahead and paint it all flat black, do the scratches and then fill with future.

Hi again Jessie
My Mistel is a
Fuhrungsmaschine (pathfinder), so it would have had a fully fitted-out "office".
All the references I've found point to the Fw 190 component having
Doppelreiter slipper tanks (as shown on the box-top), so I'll see if I can be bothered to scratch-build a pair.
All the best
Rowan

Rowan, I think that "Fuhrungsmaschine" should prove to be an extremely interesting build. I'll enjoy seeing it.
All the success. Ben

Hi Ben and Brent
It certainly should be fun. It's refreshing building outside my normal scale, and the camo should be a blast - to be honest, I'll be leaning more towards that than worrying about detailing areas like the cockpit. I know Les (Matrixone) could do a far better job on the Luftwaffe finish than me, but I'm looking forward to doing my worst.
No pictures yet, but I just got the cockpit section together and attached the nose section. To be honest, it's not a great fit - the cockpit floor needed a fair bit of sanding to fit inside the nose, and the nose itself doesn't have the same cross-section as the fuselage extension. So, a bit more sanding and re-scribing to do once it's all dry.
All the best
Rowan

Here are a few picturs of the Ju88A4 I chose based on the fact that Russell had a few LW bombers and Ju88-188 in his stash. The Kit from Revell is I believe the best Ju-88 in 1/72 out there at the moment and maybe also one of the finest 1/72 planes overall...
Hi Naseby
Could you write us a review of the Revell Ju 88? It certainly does look excellent and we haven't covered it.
All the best

I haven't exactly been hitting the "helpfulness quotient" very strongly on the subject of the
Fuhrungsmaschine, but at the very least, I can point to a pair of
Doppelreiter tanks.

Wow, that F-106 is giving me flashbacks of their F-102. Exactly the same gap at the back side of the leading edge. Good luck with filling it.

Yes you have - you made me dig out my cockpit refs, rather than take what's in the kit for granted.
Never a bad thing.
Those tanks look a lot less hassle than scratchbuilding, but I still might just carve a pair - I know, call me skinflint!

Hi Mark,
I still need to fill a few gaps.
A few more sessions of surgery needed.

John-----Great looking -106 thus far. If there's any jet model that looks like it's ready to fly off the table, it's the Delta Dart.
Mark---Like the Pony. That kit is really good.
Rowan-----Looking forward to your work on the front office of the -88.
Best wishes,
Ian

my first entry in this campaign arrived last wednesday-
this is an aircraft i've been wanting to add to my collection for a couple of years now! also, fred has been kind enough to offer me a kit from russell's stash, so with this heinkel being (hopefully!) a fairly easy build, with a one colour scheme i should get two kits finished, of course if theres any unforeseen issues russell's kit will take priority.

Howdy Y'all
Jesse & Mark-thanks for the advice. I would've done it backwards-stretch the spruce and then sand it. Y'all saved me some !#%$?%$&! words.
Take care,

I'm thinking of using a piece of metal rod for a radio mast on an upcoming project. I wonder if you could use a piece of flat bar, filed down to get the slope towards the tip?

Howdy Mark,
I had originally thought of using wire but decided I couldn't get the correct shape. My main worry is I will eventually snap off the masts. Thanks to yours and Jesse's ideas I can make a few masts easily and not glue them on yet. I was planning to make a Pacific P-51D & Ki-84 for our club's "Adversaries" contest. The masts are two little wood masts coming out the spine and a "regular" looking mast underneath the plane. I might not even worry about it and build SOOB except for the decals.
Thanks,
Don "Lakota"

Well, Russell, no photos, but I've had a couple of good, if short sessions on the P-51. The control Panel didn't work out as well as I hoped, but I think a second application of future will make the dials look OK. There's just a little bit of touch up and the cockpit will be done. The instructions say to paint some interior surfaces fuselage color, there's no color reference, so I'm going with a yellow for zinc chromate.

Ladies and Gentlemen...
That's where Russell would have said to me, "And you, too, Fred"! We did have fun picking at each other.
Very happy to see your progress. I sent more models off today. (Allen & Sam, you're next! Phil, you too.)
I can't decide what to build. I gave Russell a Dragon Ki-61; it has some P/E and is a neat lil' model of one of my favorite 'planes. I also have his Ta 152 models, a long and a short wing version. Russell thought the Aoshima Ta 152 was the best one, maybe it? Or maybe I'll finish his P-51. Or maybe as many as I can during the campaign!
I'll send this forum to his brother & sister and to his close friends. I am certain they will be thrilled. I know am profoundly touched by popularity of this undertaking.
