Hello All,
If the proposed rules are OK with everyone, I will write it up and submit it, Hopefully this weekend.
Here is a recap of the rules:
Only Purely Civilian Aircraft, Helicopters and gliders are allowed. No ex-military or designed for the military is allowed.
Start date will be November 1, 2010 and end July 1, 2011
Dioramas are allowed, But not required
Multiple builds are allowed, But only 1 ribbon is awarded
All scales are allowed, But any above 1/72 scale 1 good clear photo in the gallery for you ribbon
Heres a new one:
Any time period is allowed. This will allow the Bi-wing planes to be OK for the campaign.
Is this OK with all of you?
The rest of the rules are easy, common sense rules.
Is this OK with all of you? Please let me know if you wish a new rule or an adjustment of the proposed rules.
Cheers,
Bruce

Sounds good to me, but there's a lot of civil stuff in1/144. I have taken out of my small stash a Heller Super Constellation in TWA livery in1/72 scale. I have blown off the dust and this will be my project. Great campaign.

shoot...this is gonna be FUN! :
Here is a question for Bruce regarding prototype elegibility:
the Bell-47 was produced in 1945, became the first helicopter certified for civilian use on March 8,1946...and entered US Army service in late 1946..
Does that mean this aircraft is eligible? if its a sticky one its no problem,I got other kits to build..Im just curious is all..

Hello Jim,
As long as you model it as a Bell-13 only and not as the H-13 Sioux (As in the MASH Helicopters in the series) then i would say yes,. There is a long list of different Bell-13 models that were used only for civilian use.
I hope that I cleared it up for you and I can get you the civilian list if you want.
Cheers,
Bruce

I'll be in for this for sure. If I've not built it already by then it'll be the Do-X.
Although my fingers are getting itchy for that white matchbox plastic already.

I'm up for this. I would love to do a Airbus Beluga, A340, MD80, Constellation. tim

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but the Constellation was initially a USAAF transport,(C-69) not a civil plane and didn't roll off the assembly line until 1942, with those being drafted for military service with another wait for evaluations keeping her from the USAAF inventory until 24 July 1944. The Connie is one of my favorite planes of all time and I don't think there was ever as graceful a looking plane to fly the skies. Hoping I can free up some of my time to participate in this campaign. "Q"

Hi all

I am very keen to build a Constellation for this campaign. I did a bit of research and reading my copy of 'Lockheed Aircraft since 1913' by Rene J. Francillon he writes that Lockheed had proposed a model 044 Excalibur to Pam-am in 1938. Model 044 went from an aircraft carrying 21 passengers upto one carrying 40. In 1939 Howard Hughes head of TWA wanted an aircraft of better performance than model 044 and one that would fit into current hangers [hence the three smaller fins rather than one large fin] seating 44 or 20 people in sleeping births [sleeping births, now thats luxary]. The new design was the Model 049 Excalubur that was renamed the Constellation by Hughes request. The Constellation was designed initialy for civil use. In 1940 TWA ordered 40 as did Pan-am. While these orders were being constructed, America entered the war and all orders were turned over to the USAAF for transport duties.

*Since 1937, Lockheed had been working on the L-044 Excalibur, a four-engine pressurized airliner. In 1939, Trans World Airlines, at the encouragement of major stockholder Howard Hughes, requested a 40-passenger transcontinental airliner with 3,500 mi (5,630 km) range - well beyond the capabilities of the Excalibur design. TWA's requirements led to the L-049 Constellation, designed by Lockheed engineers including Kelly Johnson and Hall Hibbard. Willis Hawkins, another Lockheed engineer, maintains that the Excalibur program was purely a cover for the Constellation.
*source Wikipedia

I think this surely qualifies the Constellation as a aircraft designed for civilian use. Anyway I leave it up to our leader. I think I enjoyed this bit of research as much as will have building the aircraft. Great these forums.

Tim,
Have you seen the Historie and Collections book on the Constellation? If not, I highly reccomend it. Without a doubt the best source I have seen on the plane. I have a few books on the Connie and it is without a doubt my favorite of all of them. Doing research can be fun...except when it is for college! Arrgh. Looking forward to this campaign getting going. I do hope Bruce gives a green light on the Connie as that would be my first choice too. "Q"

Hello Tim & Matthew.
I am finishing up Blitz 2 and handing out the ribbon Thursday. I will then do a little research on the Connie and let you both know what I decide.
Sorry it took so long to let you know I have been following your question about the Connie.
Cheers,
Bruce
EDIT: We only have 6 signed up so far. Lets see if we cannot get the other 4 sign up to make this campaign a go.

There does not appear to be a way to sign up for this campaign. I have tried the link on the proposed campaign link. There's a list of names, six I think, but no obvious way of enlisting.

Hi Stefan and Allen

I have tried your links, still cannot find the enlist button. There are 8 people enlisted so far so it's looking good. Allen love the Simpsons livery on your Boeing 737.
