Hermon, I remember that build very nice indeed and "DITTO" what Justin said.

Hey guys, I'm building a P-40 for my "Ashes Speed Build."
It's the 1/48 Italeri re-pop of the old ERTL kit, with Aussie markings (of course).
Check it out if you get a chance.

Hi Bob.
Ashes Speed Build is and idea Jaypee came up with for a Brit vs Aus aircraft speed build, timed to coincide with the final match of the Ashes Test Cricket series. It's not an official campaign, just some fun to start the new year off.
Cheers, D

Here it is, just to wet our apetites for the Campaign. My first real "speed build" I put about 8 hours into this, finished about 12.30am thismorning.

Damian, did you paint the white first and mask it? If so what tape are you using and do you have any tips?

Thanks Mark !
Bob, I painted the winds OD on top and Medium Sea Grey under, then masked about 20 minutes later and painted the white over the top. I used all Tamiya acrylics, all mixed about 60:40 paint:thinner. I used my Paasche H single action with a #3 tip and the compressor set to about 10 psi.
I remove the tape almost straight away so that it doesn't dry too much and stick to the tape. The tape is Tamiya.
Cheers, D

Less than 2 months to go YAY !
Amongst the 4,000 other builds I have going on, I'm getting things organised for this build. I picked up the Eduard belts and these ZOTZ decals . . .
and now I'm thinking of doing Gerry Johnson's NMF bird. Am I crazy ?? Is anybody else planning and NMF P-40 ? What other schemes have people got in mind ?
I can see acres of OD and dark earth/green here, what other options are out there?
Cheers, D

Ok! Damian: I am thinking of (7) different P 40's to build, just to keep you happy. I shy away from NMF since that incident back in the late 1960's with Rub n Buff.
1. P40 F US in North Africa. (olive drab, neutral grey)
2. P40 F/L US in North Africa. (dark earth. middlestone, azure blue)
3. P40 B/C AVG in China/Burma. (dark earth, dark,. dark green, medium grey)
4. P40 E? New Zealand in New Guinea. (medium green, sand, sky blue)
5. P40 N Chinese in China. (olive drab, neutral grey)
6. P40 N Russian in Russia. (olive drab, neutral grey)
7. P40 F French in North Africa. (dark earth, middlestone, azure blue)
Tough choices but, I really love the north african (3) color camo.

D, you HAVE to do the "Daddy Please" bird. I agree about the whole OD P-40's. If I had a different decal option I'd do something more colorful on my build, but the B models weren't that exotic.

Yeah, you might be right. All NMF with a black "7" versus a BIG Pin-Up on each side. WHAT WAS I THINKING ?? Thanks for putting me back on the right path 'Cuda. OD, NG and White it is, with a couple of semi-naked girls thrown in !!

Cool.
I personally love the NMF P-40's, but I'd warn anyone away from building the Hasegawa version in NMF. It's a supurb kit but the funky tail section that mates with the rear of the fuselage usually requires filling and sanding and rescribing.......not something you really want to do on an NMF bird.
Oh, and I noticed you've started using Tamiya paints. See, even the hardest of heads can learn the virtures of quality paints.

You're right, I remember seeing that when I looked through the instructions. Thx for the heads-up there.

I've always used both Gunze and Tamiya in different applications. I mainly use the Gunze for their Interior Green (H58) and Tire Black (H77), and a couple of odd colours that Tamiya don't range.
See, my head isn't totally made of wood, only mostly !!
Cheers mate, I'm really looking forward to this build now !!

I have been looking out for a build for this Campaign for months, but the Hasegawa 1/32 stuff rarely come on special, and I am a bit short at the moment due to having to fix the place up after our recent weather extremes, therefore I have not bought one..
But while I was sitting there quietly putting my Bearcat together for the Origami Campaign it hit me! I DO have a build for this Campaign!! I have a 1.32 Trumpeter P-40B there in the stash!
So I signed up for my fortieth campaign at the moment. Lets see how it all goes..

Here ya go 'Cuda, a thirty-tooth Hase P-40 in NMF, markings of No.2 Operational Training Unit based out of Mildura, Victoria. There's a superb little museum dedicated to this unit at the Mildura Airport that I visit every time I'm there.

There are some really sweeet models on that site D. Thanks for the link.
Only problem is it's all in Australian and I can't read a damned word of it.

Mark, you are correct. Have you lined up your build, I have a couple to choose from and I will be back in school again it is better than before I now prepare taxes for the elderly and under privileged on a volunteer basis in hopes of using it on my resume to get a job. Finally. But any way I cannot wait to cut plastic and throw glue at some P-40's my favorite a/c.

Dug out my Hase 1/72 P-40E Red Stars a couple of weekends ago. Found the AM decal sheet. Thinking about a 49th FG, 8th FS(?) bird that might have been done in British Desert colors (Sand/Middle stone/gray) would really rather do it in British Mediterranean (Dark earth/ middle stone/azure blue)...[probably will merit a visit from the color police]... Got enough paint to do it either way. Looks like there's a set of brass flaps in there too.
