OK now! After a month of life, a nagging cold that keeps getting re-energized, the floor project and of course Christmas and such I have had little time to work on the Lightning. But this week I have a limited schedule and so I can have some time to work on this beast.
So what little I've done has been cleaning up landing gear and other parts for painting (maybe tonite).
Nose gear.

Sounds good to me. More updates/pictures soon for recently painted parts. Can't wait for my new camera to get here as my other one died suddenly around Thanksgiving and I've been using SWMBO's camera. Also waiting for a new micro knife so I can redo the nose wheel.

OK, after some stuff came in and setup complete (more or less) it was back to work on the Lightning. The micro knife came in and I was able to finish "thinning" the spokes on the nose wheel.
This is the second attempt and so far it looks much better.

OK, back at it some more. The props and tires are now painted and the yellow on the prop tips needs to been done. Now starting the weathering process on the topside. Landing gear has also been painted and awaits weathering.
The landing gear.
The weathering begins.
Getting there.

Very nice, how did you get the bare metal effect on the landing gear pistons? Did you use foil or Alclad or something like that?

Thanks about the fuel doors, paint looks so much better than stickers.
The oleo strut is Bare Metal foil. Pay attention to the direction of the grain or somebody will nit pick ya.

Work continues in between this, that and the other things of life.
I have been working on the weathering and am just about finished. The panel lines have been painted in, pastel chaulks for paint fading and dirty feet and oils soon for leaks.
Engine nacelle with turbosupercharger.

Props are in the works now, heading towards decals and general dirtiness.

Yes indeed they do. Are you using them for a wash or weathering?

Oils streaks and some general dirtiness. I usually work with acrylics at this point but figured I'd get some oil practice in. Oh well it should be dry tomorrow.

OK now, it's all downhill from here!
Masking removed for NMF gun door.
Last sticker placed on panel. Just needs sealing with Future and final weathering.
It's just a matter of putting all of the sub-assemblys together, unmask the canopy and windscreens and final touch-ups.
However it's a beautiful day in Georgia so I'm going to get some fresh air while I put down some more bamboo flooring!

It's the Cutting Edge PYN P-38 #2.
Lots of little touchups happening. More after some yardwork is done.

I'm hurrying. I painted the model with Floquil Bright Silver then with Model Master OD/NG. Once dry I just lightly scraped the paint off various parts. It's old school but it works. Then a bunch of washes, filters, this, that and the other over it. I'll go back with a regular #2 pencil to hit some high spots for the final touch.
