Good weather always slows the builds down
Now I'm coming to the end of my Aces High build and created some space on the bench. Sprues are washed and I'm starting my build for Pin Ups this week.

I'm still looking after Sam so I only get to the bench at weekends. The build has stalled as I'm still waiting for the tail wheel bay I ordered from the LHS. once this has arrived I can get the fuselage buttoned up and the build progressing.

Yes, life has become a roadblock to success. And for me there is a club group build in progress. I am doing a F9F Panther for a old Monogram kit build. In a couple of weeks I get to recover from some surgery and doctor's orders are to take it very easy for the first couple of weeks. I figure that sitting at the model table is great therapy.

Still have a F-105 to build for this one and it's at the top of the pile.

I'm still here too Justin, just plodding away with a few builds simultaneously with what little time I have at the moment. We'll get there eventually !!

I´m still here, too!

I´m actually bilding on my Jug, but not much to show yet.

Cockpit is in the painting stage, but turning out fine.

And there´s still lots of parts to glue, and some research to do!

Cheers!

Well, here they come!

Hi all!

I have started with the detailing in the cockpit!
It´s unbelievable that there´s soo many, very little, pieces even in this big scale!

But please don’t think I’m only whining; no this is modelling and the reason why I love the big scale!

In this issue of the Airacobra kit, you get some ”extras”, not present in the earlier kits.
You get two etched frets from Eduard, one of whish are pre-painted.

The unpainted fret…

…and the pre-painted one;

Paint this if you can!
I can’t for sure!

Some modellers loathe this, but I really LOVE it!
Taste is a very personal thing, and to each his/her´s own!
I started with drilling out the holes in the bulkhead frames.

The forward bulkhead, with the pedals, and the two nose guns;

…some etch added;

I really don’t like folding small tin-boxes very much, but the result are neat!

More to come soon!

Cheers!!

Stefan E

Hey Justin! Well, here I am! You followed my P 51 build for the aluminium campaign, and I really enjoy these planes. So, my last kit was a cheapo Testor's kit and it turned out nicely, but I wanted a better kit so E-bay was the place to go for not just one, but three new Mustangs!

This is the Hasegawa "Nose Art" kit.
I also have Hasegawa's " Jumping Jacques " and " Pacific Pin-up Girl " kits on the way! So I'll have a nice little squadron when I'm done.

I'm getting ready to dig into this box, and I'll keep you guys updated. I've seen alot of nice work out there so far! Hope mine turns out half as nice!

I didn't have a whole lot of time this weekend, but this is what I've gotten done so far... kinda weird how you can spend so much time on these little details that nobody's going to see when the canopy is closed... but I find myself in a near meditative state when I'm building and painting...

Yeah, here ya go! I've made some progress getting everything put together. I really took my time getting the seam right on my joins instead of just slapping cement all the way round and trying to fix the mess with fillers and sanding! It went together really well. I'm a little bit worried as I progress though because I want to try something I've never done before, namely putting the canopy on the plane before painting... My plan of attack so far is gluing the windshield in place with testors clear parts, and temporarily attaching the canopy with blue tack. I think I should mask the windshield when its in place and the canopy before i set it in place. Until now I've always painted my canopies by hand and rubbed away any errors with a toothpick and then glued the parts into place as the very last step, but I don't always get the fit and feel of the part matching the rest of the model, do you guys know what I mean? But I am really worried about making a mess of my beautiful kit, mainly just messing up the "glass"! Any pointers, advice, or all out walk-throughs on how you handle this would be awesome... I've read a few posts on the topics, but I still have a lot of apprehension! Thanks guy!

Ray, your progress is going along nicely. As for mounting the canopy before painting worked for me on my last build. I used Tamyia's masking tape to cover the canopy while finishing the build and use some putty to correct where the canopy and fuselage meet. When it came time to paint the tape was still on the canopy, all i did was cut off the frame areas and it worked like a charm. The finished product was much better than any in the past. BUILD ON RAY!

Ray I always paint my planes with thy canopy mounted.I cover them in BMF and then cut out the frames usually dont take it off until the very end.Any residue that is left over comes right off with rubbing alcohol if it hazes then I paint over it with future.SHINY
