Thanks Jesper,

I have been making some progress on my Cobra, I started decaling, and wouldn't you know it, the decals are all falling apart, I managed to get some on and lined up, but most are not useable
Needless to say, my Cobra will be lightly decorated

Hi Ted,

Nice work on the SuperCobra. I like the open hatches and cockpit. Love the exposed engines and the hatches offset the light grey.

Looking at the cockpit, I'm guessing there aint to many 6' 4" Cobra front seaters in the Marine Corps! (I'm guessing that it's the weapons systems operator in the front seat and pilot in the rear???)

Thanks Eoin,

I am glad you like it

I believe you are correct the gunner station is in front, but from the literature in the MRC kit, the Cobra can be flown from either station.

Hi Ted,

I'm going on Ed Macy's books 'Apache' and 'Hellfire'. Great reads about British Army experiences in Afghanistan. As close to CAS as you can get! Go to your library or Amazon or ebooks- you won't be dissappointed.

I was wondering if the pilot in the rear seat came about with the Apache or if it was a standard Cobra (or even Hind) configiration.

Great build!

Ted, your Cobra looks great, I love the finish on the exhausts and the weathering. One small point, check the star and bars on the starboard side.

Vertigo, luvin the Dragonfly mate, such a cool looking aircraft.

Simon, your Henschel came up really well, good job.

Jesper, great recovery on the Stuka, it turned out really nicely. The panel shading looks very good.

Cheers, D

I'm afraid the Dragonfly has suffered an accident. While fixing down the canopy it became marked, noticeably. Basically I first attempted to fix it down with PVA glue but after a few days it just came off.

So I tried Super Glue and I tried my damnedest to be careful but super glue has a habit of sticking everything to everything so, yeah, the canopy has two small but noticeable patches on it which is a shame because it was a rather wide and clear canopy.

Either way the canopy is anchored firmly now. I just need to fill in a gap between the rear of the canopy and the fuselage.

Damien,

Thanks for the kind words, and nice catch I was so frustrated with the decals falling apart, I didn't even notice.

Hey Alcatraz,

Pity about the canopy. Superglue and clear pieces are very tricky... if you posted a photo you may get a few tips about how to minimise the damage???

Easy to do Ted, especially with those low-viz markings. In fact the guy who takes all of the photo's for my local club did exactly the same thing on his build recently ! You can check the pics here, he even did it on the same side !
ESSMC Super Cobra

Never mind, onwards and upwards, perhaps it was deliberaterly done to cater for the odd barrel-roll ??

I'm afraid the canopy is glue down tight now and the damage is on the inside surface. I'd be afraid of pulling up the canopy in case more damage was caused.

I have been making very slow progress with my IL-2. Life has been throwing a few curveballs to say the least... but I'm working to get this build done by the end of the campaign.

Does anyone have a good method for applying whitewash in a realistic looking manner? Or should I just paint it straight white?

Now that I had painted the plane I´m going to use some pigment on the panels,

Hi folks,

@ VonHengest: I'm not to sure the best way to apply a whitewash, but I would think that the hairspray technique would be you best bet- easy to take a shedload of chips off to make it look like it's been hastily applied. Personally, I hate anything to do with white paint, simply because it is too heavy and takes loads of coats to get it looking right.

I think there was a Winter Wonderland campaign run a while back- maybe if you scroll through that thread you might get a few ideas.

@ dcandel- camo is looking good- the lines are dead sharp with now seepage (which tends to happen to me from time to time!). What pigments did you use for the panels? The effect looks great.

It looks like I won't be able to make the deadline for the campaign, some of the materials I was waiting on took too long to get here but I've enjoyed myself.

Here are some pictures of where things are at.

This is the camo scheme I'm using, it's one of many used in Chile.

I primed the model using a white Humbrol Acrylic from a spray can; it covers very well. Next I've been painting the model, by hand, using Vallejo Reflective Green from the Model Color range. Vallejo covers very well over the primer and doesn't need thinned at all although I like to keep the brush moist with water.

After the green goes down I'll be drawing on the camo lines with a pencil then filling in with standard black from the same paint range.

A shot of the underside which is very WIP at the moment. Below is a shot of the underwing ordinance just primed.

Some great work being done here and posted. Now unfortunately for myself, I will have to withdraw from the campaign. My lovely wife decided to allow the kids to "play" with our camera and as a result, I have now not had a camera for some time. Thought it would be an easy fix, but alas, gone to the big camera grave in the sky. Didnt have that much to do to the A-10 after posting the last lot of photos, just some touchups here and there and it has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Anyway, "it" happens.

Cheers,
Nick
