If only I'll be able to get my kits looking that good : )
Now on to the Goshawk. The first coat of white primer is on.
Still lots of cleaning up of the surface to do; the white primer reacted strangely to the grey primer, leaving me with the need to sand everything down and make it all smooth.

@ Stephen
Thanks for the kind words. I did not even know there was also a two seater variant of this aircraft. That would be an interesting looking aircraft as well.
@ Jonathan
Yeah that corrugated metal skin turns out really well but that is also thanks to the nice molding of Roden which at this scale is really beautifully represented.
@ Jessica
I have seen several of your aircraft now and I wouldn't worry much about the endresult of your aircraft. They are really good.

Robert, that's a really nice D1.
Jessica, looking good and coming on nicely.
John, that A-model Su-15 looks like a really bad vacform. Good luck mate!

Jess-----T-45 looks excellent so far. Great work in regards to dealing with the intakes as well. Didn't look like the best fit in the world during assembly.
I did some more work on the A-4 "Super Fox". The landing gear is on and washes were applied. Also got the horizontal stabs on and repositioned on brass pins. I hope to get the fluid leaks and stains applied with oil paint this week and then I will apply the Future.
Best wishes everybody,
Ian

Progress update on my Blohm & Voss BV-141...
Main construction is almost done. Except for the topside starboard wing root there is almost no seam filling required. Impressive for such an old kit!
Now I need to paint the cockpit and maybe spruce it up a little bit. Only the prop is painted so far because I had a can of Tamiya AS-24 (RLM 71) lying around.

Robert, Just perfect. Not a rivet counter so for my taste they are just perfect....as long as you chuck the decals as soon as you open the box.

Another anything-goer reporting in!
With the spring term at Helsinki Uni. over (well, at least the study part - there's still some parties coming up ), it's time for some more modeling time. And what's better for that than campaigns?
Anyway, here's what I'm planning to build: Revell's reboxing of Hasegawa's 1:72 scale Draken. It usually sells for around 20€ in Finland, so when one store had it on sale for 9,90€, I just had to get one.
...and what's a kit without at least some AM goodies? That is, in addition to being less fiddly.
To take care of the typically spartan Hasegawa cockpit, I got the Aires cockpit set. And to replace the styrene stick offered as a pitot tube, I invested in a Maestro Models turned brass pitot set.
Being an all-Finnish boxing, there's two FAF marking options supplied on the decal sheet, one with the original large insignia and registry numbers, another with the later small low-visibility ones. Looks good to me, although I might swap the roundels as the blue looks pretty dark.
The two cockpit tubes side by side. While the Aires cockpit looks really good in the box, I just wonder how they intend people to be able to paint all those lovely sidewall and console details when it's all molded in one piece?
And finally, to prevent tail-sitting, I decided to try something new.
A bit of a luxury I guess, but how can you resist! Just pour in pellets, then set in place with CA, PVA or epoxy.
I hope to get this build going and have some progress to show soon.

I have completed my Salamander. It’s fresh from the factory so no weathering! I only brought this kit because it was cheap, but it turned out to be a great little kit to build.

John, really neat job on the Heinkel. I am onld fan of these flying bombs (don't tell me they are not! They killed more of their own pilots then they destroyed enemy aircraft, downright definition of "suicide bomber").
A general question. I am an utter ignorant on Mustangs, but I have heard some weird things about the wings. Can anyone give me detail on the material? I am planing to finish my Mustang as F-51D and naked metal, can I do it as usual or are they somewhat coated with any kind of substance? Thank you.

When Mustangs were built, they were made with very cleanly sealed wings so that the laminar airflow would not be disturbed. There's some discussion of this in Sven's Mustang thread which includes a very nice diagram showing how much of the wing was filled and painted. This applies to new factory-finished Mustangs only. Once they'd been around for a while, it's likely that the putty and paint would have gotten damaged or stripped, especially after being sold on to secondary users. That being the case, it's up to you whether to show your Mustang with filled wings or bare metal wings. Nobody will be able to prove you wrong either way

@ Murdo and Yalym
Thanks the both of you for the nice comments.
@ Ian
That paintjob is really nice I love the tone differences all over the aircrafts fuselage and the wash really brought out the details.
@ Van
That BV is surely an odd looking kit. But it looks like a fun built. Might want to write that by on my wants list.
@ Eetu
Nice looking jetfighter. That cockpit surely is an improvement over the kit supplied tub.
@ John
Nice salamander. That decal work is looking really sharp. Congrats on finishing in this campaign.

Hi All,
After returning from my Overseas sojourn and seeing some interesting additions here, I'll get back to my F 16.

Ian. The Skyhawks coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing it in its decals.
Eetu. Always nice to see a Drakken built. Seeing as its a Hasegawa am I correct in saying they did not include even the most basic of underwing stores?
John. Superb work on the He162. Is it the Revell 1:32?
Robert: Here's the 2-seater Junkers. I'm not sure which came first but they're great looking aircraft and way ahead of their time.
As for my Camel, I started painting the upper green and when that's dry I'll get some pics up.

Thanks. Yep, the only thing provided in the kit to hang under the wings are two fuel tanks.

That's one thing that bugs me about Hasegawa. Surely while they're tooling the thing it won't cost much more in time or money to cut a pair of Falcon missiles on the sprue?
That's a thought, did the Finnish Drakkens carry those or use a variant of Sidewinder or AA-2?

Why would Hasegawa do that when they can soak you for the price of an entire kit by making you buy a weapons set?

Returning to the Goshawk, here's the second coat of white primer. There are still some places where the paint went a bit orange-peel and I'm going to have to polish those down.
It's a bit difficult to tell because the flash washes out the surface detail a bit. The most obvious problem is the right wing root area.

It was already mentioned, but yep, Hasegawa wants people to buy their separately sold weapon and bomb sets.
Missiles used on the Finnish Drakens were Swedish license-built versions of Sidewinders (AIM-9B & AIM-9J) and Falcons (AIM-4C & AIM-26B).

Cheers, I'll note that if ever I get one.
I have to admit that those sets are awesome and I have got a few of them stashed away which I ration out sparingly.
Jessie. The Hawks coming along nicely. I can't believe the fit issues that you've had with it.

Well...
Finally got this wee Revell 1/144 Tornado Gr.Mk.1 finished. I scratchbuilt the crew ladder and decided to add some 1/144 NATO figures from Preiser. I think these are actually "N" Scale figures for model Railway bods but it's possible they're actually for model kits. They certainly make a difference anyway, even if they are pretty tiny!
Hope you like it:
This first pic looks about scale size accurate for 1:144.
