Anyone have an idea what camo scheme or country Russell favored?

Eric, if Canada had A-37s, Russell would have liked that! He was quite proud of his Canadian heritage. He was planning to make a RCAF Voodoo this year.

As it is a tribute build, plus Russell did have a Dragonfly he didn't get the chance to build, I was hoping to complete this one in a scheme he would have liked...

With few exceptions, Russell built and painted OOB. His Ki-45 was overall brown because he was fascinated (He liked to tease me about my overuse of that word. ) by that scheme, although I don't recall if it had that option in the kit.

He painted his Shinden in a theoretical NMF / cloud blue scheme because J7W was a theoretical 1946 fighter. He did not really understand why I took license creating fictional units, or aircraft in historical units.

Mostly, Russell painted what was in the kit. Yet he was also strongly "build what makes you happy"!

thanks for the kind comments the kit I believe went together fairly well I opted to go w/o ordnance and wheels up so I could use the desk stand that came with it. and I went with the original decals which worked thanks.

There' still 43 days left in the campaign; should be ample time to finish that lovely little Hellcat.

I know of at least 4 other quality builds that are going to be in the gallery before the close, for sure. Certainly, that will compliment the 10 wonderful builds that are already there.
It would be a very pleasant surprise; a gift to all of us if there were way more completions than a third of all who entered.

43 days? I was working to the end of July! That's good news though, because the 219 is fully finished (I'm using my phone now so I'll post pics later) but I can also get the 280 finished in that time.

Still heaps of time, Phil, with 34 days left. Hope you can get some photos up.

Its difficult to function in this +30 heat wave we are experiencing; I'll still be done the CF-100 with time to spare and photos will be up soon enough.
I just hope we'll be seeing a-lot more completed entries.

I know what you mean, I have not been able to do much for a couple of weeks.

Cheers Rob.

Torsten, the Mitchell is looking great.

I've only just realised that I haven't updated my build for a while, so here's some pics.

I eventually got the nacelles to a point that I am happy with. If I went any further I would probably completely sand away the plastic! Thank heavens AMT moulded it think.

And the warp sled and shuttle pod are assembled. Little filler is needed to blend in the re-entry shield, docking port and the front of the sled. With luck she should be ready for painting by the weekend.

Well, not being a sci-fi guy, Stephen, I'm not quite sure what it is your putting together here. I am certain you'll have it more recognizable before to long, and it will look great.

as i mentioned above the 219 is now fully finished, however the race to the end threw me some "oopsies"

the first one being that when i decided to re touch a mark on the fuselage i damaged the decal near it when i took off some masking-

it wasn't too bad, but the pic here is what happened after i tried to get the rest of the decal off, the micro set i used went through the matt coat and the paint!
never mind, the decal was from a generic sheet so i had plenty more and i was able to re spray the whole area to my satisfaction and replace the damaged decal

the next issue was the stags antlers, i got the upper pair on quite easily,

however when i went to put on the lower set i had a problem in that, the angle of the main arms was out meaning that the lower aerial was hitting the upper one
my solution was to break them off (and after all this time being careful not to do exactly that!) drill down them, put in some wire, then drill a hole into the fuselage, meaning that i could easily postion the arm, whilst still having a strong fixing to the fuselage

and it all turned out ok!

in the above pic you can still see the minor repair and wire on the arm.

and now the good stuff! here she is, dedicated to russell, who did most of the building of this kit, all i did was finish her.

Thanks Ben. It's the Vulcan shuttle from Star Trek The Motion Picture. There's a great article on the design and building of the filming model here: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Long_range_shuttle_model?file=Long_range_shuttle_studio_model_with_creator_Andrew_Probert.jpg
The model itself was VERY pink with shades of purples and blues. These are all present on the decal sheets. Unfortunately the film was filtered in editing to turn it grey. Rumor has it the model was stolen from a convention the late 80's

Phil, great work on the He219. I'm sure Russell would love how it turned out.

Phil, that night owl is beautiful. Russell would certainly have loved that. Well done, indeed

@Stephen - I see where your going. Thanks for the link. That sort of thing was right in Russell's universe, I'm sure.

Sascha----Glad to see a Tornado added to the fleet.

Torsten---The B-25 is coming along nicely.

Stephen----Looking forward to the shuttle craft project. We have inner-space and outer space covered now!!!

Phil---The Uhu looks good. Those antenna are fun aren't they? I had a helluva time getting them aligned right on both axis' on my -32 scale one. Good work.

Best wishes everybody,

Ian

That's a great looking F-4, Rob; nearly done.
I hope you can set up a plain background for your gallery photos. It makes it easier to see your fine work.

Rob, your Phantom is coming along very nicely.

Mine is now more or less ready for some paint. I was able to get a new can of white primer over the weekend which should be a good base for the pink.

Just waiting for the glue to harden up on the nacelles. The masking tape is there just to secure the right hand nacelle. It was much looser fitting than the left hand and needed some persuasion to stay put while the glue sets. A little bit of filler was needed to blend in the intakes to the sides of the pod but that will be a simple job to sand back. Why a spacecraft needs intakes I can't work out? Especially as the pod is only powered by maneuvering thrusters, relying on the sled for it's primary propulsion.

Most things are done now, Future is on, now it's decal time ....

Still most guns are missing, turret and waist guns will be added when everything is finished, the gun packs will be glued when the nose art is on and before the 2. layer of Future. I hope to finish this build by early next week. The next kit is already waiting ....

Happy modelling!

Torsten, your B-25 is looking absolutely lovely! I can see it will soon be welcomed in the gallery

My Cf-100 likely looks like poop at this time. However, there is a method to my madness, me thinks anyway:

After she was primed, Tamiya FX69 was applied forward of the canopy, which was then masked over. Subsequently, Humbrol gloss black was applied to certain areas, which is presently in dry time. I'll mask the areas I wish to leave black.
I hope to polish her up tomorrow, and begin applying the NMF. That will be a long process, as there will be a couple of Alclad colors applied with dry time allowed.
Hopefully, it will all turn out.

Ben,
I take pics for the Gallery differently Good luck with your NMF.

I have started working on the Ordnance and I have lost one bomb and one Ter hopefully they will turn up.

All that is left are painting the missiles and canopy and a little on the seats.

Cheers Rob.

Still 26 days to go, folks, with only 26% of all who enlisted having entered a completion into the Gallery
There's time to turn over 100%.
