Just in case anyone is interested,
Well, I was interested. Great photos of a beautiful model, as per usual coming off your bench. Well done

It's only taken me 6 months but I am in action. This is my decision:
Long before I met Russell, he built an F-80. I don't recall which model but I remember that he built is as one of the - if not
the- only freelance model he built. He named it
Terrible Terrier after his Yorkshire Terrier Macky.
That is what I will name this one.
Here's what I've accomplished while watching
Gladiator:

Russell liked Tenex but I only have Ambroid. Sorry Russ...

Torsten, wonderful strafer!
Rob, your "double Ugly" is beautiful (in a warplane way) - those Sparrows and Sidewinders all together - scarey!
Lap Man, welcome! Russell was a great fan of the TSR.
Phil, just love the HE in RLM 02!
Naseby, just fantastic!
Lee, so happy to see the Vulcan! I remember the day I bought it in 2011 for Russell at Phil's Hobby Shop in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Russell was planning to order it on-line yet he liked to support his LHS; Phil's shipping was good so I bought it and arraigned for shipping.
Thank you for the your kind words, yet Ben and others deserve the credit for getting the campaign going.
And it is all of you who are making this tribute as amazing as it is!

Wow, Fred, 'Terrible Terrier' is moving right into hyper-speed. You'll have to watch some more Gladiator to keep your adrenalin levels up and get that beauty finished.
Now that we are moving through this debilitating heat wave here, I can get back on the CF-100 without fogging my Optivisor with sweat. Photos coming up.

Stunning work there Rob! Would I be right in thinking that those are the markings for Robin Old's aircraft?

Really an F-4 masterpiece, Rob. So well done; it's a looker that will fit superbly in a diorama setting. Well done, well done!!

Rob, brilliant work on the Phantom. Very neat paint work and decalling.
After a week away I've been able to get back to workbench yesterday and spray the shuttle.

I used Xtracolor X34 RAF PRU Pink enamel. It's not as harsh as the pink used on the filming miniature which was a little bright. Not to my taste. First time spraying Xtracolor enamel and found it worked very well although I probably should have thinned it a little more. They also have the advantage of being a gloss finish, which will help when it comes to decalling this one!
Some detail painting to do and then it's ready for decals.

Stephen----A crisp looking shuttlecraft, indeed. Looking forward to the decals and final finish.
Rob----The Rhino really looks good. I am sure Russell is very proud of that one.

Ian

Very nice, Lap. It looks like you used a liner pen to highlight the panel lines prior to first coat. I'm quite interested to see how it works out for you in the end.

You may remember a similar photo to this from a while back.
The old warped tail:
Actually, I had this fixed by heating it with hot water and letting it cool in position.
Much later, while busy with masking, I went ahead and accidentally Dropped it on the Floor
The CF-100 wasn't amused, deciding to break in protest:

Now, it must be repaired. I'm going to take a different approach by removing plastic at the break, straightening it all out, and then the fill, re-scribe, etc.
Eight days left to finish

Experimented with a hand painted camo pattern. I quite like it.

Great work everyone! I'm amazed by the variety and models being built. I'm sorry to say I will have to bow out. With a couple of funerals to attend to this summer I've put modeling on hold for now. I hope to finish Russell's P-51D in a future build.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Ben, Stephan, Ian,
Thanks!
I am mostly happy with the way it came out, but there are a couple spots that bother me

I am going to wait till after I finish and mount it to a base as every time I try to fix something now I break something else.
Cheers Rob.

my 280 is also finished.
I'm very proud to dedicate this to Russell, as well as the He 219.

one thing I only managed to notice whilst putting the underside transfers on, is that there seems to be a lack of doors for the main wheels to fit into! unless the two panels in the bottom fuselage opened, then closed, when the wheels were down. any 280 experts out there know if this is so?

on a slightly related note i spent today making a sort of mobile backdrop to photograph built models on, i intended to take it outside to get some decent pics of the 280, but of course its a bank holiday here and the weather is appropriately grey and raining!

the back porch is as close to the outside as it'll get today. i will also use it inside but the light today is so bad (as you can probably tell by the above pics!) i'll wait, take some decent pics then put them in the gallery.
this has been a worthwhile and enjoyable campaign in the memory of one of our own.
I'm proud to have taken part.

Fred - Interesting choice of kit. You really don't see many of those Airfix F-80's built. Interested in seeing how it turns out.
Eric - The Dragonfly is coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing the finished result.
Lap Man - Great work on the TSR2. All over white schemes can be tricky to get looking as good as you have achieved. I for one am dreading the day when I have to finally paint my Valiant bomber! What brand of white paint did you use? Enamel or acrylic?
Phil - The He280 turned out really nicely. It's certainly a very different looking machine compared to the Me262. I would guess that the main wheels retract into the fuselage. Are the doors engraved into the belly?
Ben - Glad to see you managed to fix the Cannucks bent tail.
A little update on my build.

The paint guide called for all the grills and docking tube to be painted black. I thought black would have been a bit harsh against the pink, so I used Revell 09 Anthracite. A nice dark grey/metallic colour that looked a bit more subtle. I also painted the larger warp engine grill in Humbrol metallic blue to give a more interesting and varied finish. It also gives the impression that the ship is powered up and in flight. The docking tube was painted dark grey with the airlock door details picked out in silver. Phaser banks were painted yellow and a few other areas were painted with White Ensign Models Mountbatten pink to add some variety to the overall pink finish.
Now for all those decals!
