There's free image editing software around too, like Irfanview and GIMP for example.

Well, since it's long enough after that last post of mine so I can't edit it anymore, so here goes with a new one. Some more progress again:

Another shock absorbing spring, this one will go to the antenna wire.

Cockpit UV lights, made from styrene rod, left-over PE straps and thin metal wire.

I also got the wheels painted up. I'll be adding some mud and dust later on.

Eduard's main wheel masks fit the Ultracast wheels nicely.

It was the same thing for the canopies themself, save for the windscreen piece, which was both a bit too tall and wide. That was easily fixed though, by quartering the piece and placing them so they overlapped each other.

Painting's underway!

Done freehand as I both wanted to save the time spent masking and see how it would look. I'll get going with the fuselage greys when I get the canopy front and rear section in place, which should be soon.

Beautiful looking plane you got there. By my estimate, i shall reach your skill level by the year 2249 AD

Progress Update on my Gelb 4 of I./JG27

I know i got the style of the "4" wrong....but my pilot wanted it that way only

Camo done, first coats of future on:

As I just don't seem to able to get a decaling-proper gloss by airbrushing Future, I'll probably do as before, go over the areas to be decaled with a good old brush.

What do you think of those overpainted German crosses on the wings? I tried the same trick I succesfully pulled off with the last 1:72 scale Bf 109 I built: cutting out the crosses from the decals and using them as airbrushing masks, held slightly above the surface of the wing with blobs of blu-tac. This time I messed it up though by mixing the overpainting grey too dark and spraying too heavily (ie. covering too well), making the effect way too dark and hard-edged. The picture above is taken after my first attempt to fix it, misting RLM74 (the surrounding colour) unevenly over them.
I think I'll have to go over them again.

After another go, this time with a lighter-than-the-background mix of RLM74 and 02. Appears a bit starker in the picture than in reality.

Next stop: decals.

Hi all

Eetu .. I see you go very much over board with your build. Very detailed and very well done. I did the contrary and the result is best seen like on this picture:

I'll take more pix later

cheers

Very nice so far Raj ! The camo turned out really well .

Hi Craig , excellent job on an oldie 109 !

Eetu , what can say , well done so far . I have made that same mistake before . When building the BE2-c I tried to have a see through effect but was little heavy with the misting of paint . You just barely see the markings .
Looking forward to the next up date .

Steffen , was this one out of box and where did you get the figure ?

I have my clear coat on ready for decals , pic's coming soon ...

Hi Terri

Academy oob .. well almost. Some parts from Hasegawa kit and some "scratch" stuff. I wanted to test the camo decals from the kit, which worked quite well. I adjusted them a bit as I wanted a different marking. Here is another picture of the finished model:

You can find mor in my BLog here on Aeroscale.

The figure is Kurenai no Buta aka Porco Rosso aka Crimson Pig from the Fine Molds kit of the "Savoia S.21" (and I need to touch up a bit on it + flat coat)

cheers

Bwahaha. Busy but by no means out of this. I fully plan to have at least one bird ready by deadline. It took me a while to settle on a paint scheme for my Monogram G-10 but stumbled upon a curious JG-54 Gustav with a black nose, a replacement cowl with an earlier 74/75/76 scheme and an overall RLM 83 upper surfaces.

Green should go on the next day or so and then its to decals and weathering.

Cheers,
Fred

Here is my completed a/c not totally happy with the finish on the kit, painting is a learning process. Thus the no close ups.I now know what not to do on the next one. With this Otaki kit I added cutting edge props and hub, ultracast seat, td wheels and changed the rudder with a tall tail from a Fujimi kit. The chord was narrower then the kit thus some judicious sanding to get it to mate. This has been my first campaign, I have enjoyed it and will engage in another one which will be P-40, and heavy fighter.

Nice build, Trevor. The Italian markings an a little extra "flavour" to the build. very nice.

An over all 3/4 shot would be cool and a close up of the engine cowling marking.

Onward and upwards! (looks like we're going to have a lot of nice submissions for this campaign)

OK, making a bit more progress before work today. Hit the plane with RLM 83 (added a drop of black) then re-shot the panels with plain RLM 83. Next step Defense of Reich bands then clear coat and decals!

Woohoo!

I have finally completed my Hasegawa 1/48 Bf 109 E1 from I./JG 26 Summer 1939. The markings are from Krzysztof Janowicz' book 'JG 26 Schlageter, Vol 1' which included the decals. Thanks for leading the campaign Terry.
