Sound of pin dropping.. Seems ery quiet in here.. Has everyone given up or so hard at work on their builds they can't stop to add progress shots etc..

I will be starting mine very soon.. Was going to be a Pup, but I have three others from the first release to choose from... And not having any 'RAF Aerodynamic Wires' on hand I think it may just be the mighty LVG..

Now to learn how to simulate wood...

Well, I WAS going to post progress pics of my LVG, but the light makes the varnish I used on my plastic wood look too orangy for my liking. I came up with a technique for simulating wood grain that seems to work, but I have never seen it described anywhere before.

Oh sorry Michael.

First up I painted the surfaces with Tamiya XF-59. Then I used a stiffish brush with Mig Pigments Dark Mud across the surface in the direction you want the grain to go after remembering to remove the excess powder before doing the dragging bit. Apply as much of the pigment as you want but remember that every so often make a kink in the grain like real wood. Then I just coated with Tamiya Clear Orange to get the colour I wanted for the wood.

Sounds a bit complicated in words. Maybe a quick article may be a good idea as I think it produces a great finish without the mess and fuss of oil paints, sponges and thinners...

I am building the LVG C.VI and have produced a small feature on an easy way to make your lovely grey plastic look like lovely wood.. Don't know how you can simulate the plywood when it has absorbed water and warped like the aircraft in one of the pictures in the WNW Instructions..

And then.. disaster... my lovely decals have silvered on the fuselage... don't know why...

Oh well. Just have to keep it in mind for next time...

Well,, after 2 months of building, one of my longest builds ever as I had to wait for various things.. including time to finish the model, my WNW LVG is finally finished.

I learned a lot of new techniques in this build and developed a way to simulate the wood grain bits that a wrote a small feature on for Aeroscale.

I finished photographing the model and the first thing that happened, I broke one of the drag rigging lines... Thank goodness photos were finished! Anyway, here is the finished product.











Next up is either the SE5.a or Bristol Fighter. Am trying to build them in sequence of their lit numbers.

But before that I have to finish the Revell 1/400 QM2 with GMM PE for my Wife.

Here is my second kit for the GB, WNWs SE.5a. It faught me a fair bit in the end cut I eventually beat it into submission..

One major problem was that somehow I lost the control horns for the upper wings ailerons, so sometime in the future I am going to have to scratch a few.. if I ever remember too.. sigh..

I will sadly not be able to finish my SE 5a, so the Albatros will have to do. Sorry!

So far, thanks for a nice campain - must say that the results so far are of a very high standard - a pleasure to watch. Hope there will be some kind of "wrap-up" feature displaying the final submissions.
