There's also some process on my Spit. Here is how far I am today:
White primer is on .....

Yellow and Sky come next ....

and now Medium Sea Grey for the underside .... Don't think I oversprayed the other colours. They are covered with Tamiya tape and Parafilm ....

next is Ocean Grey and Dark Green, so the main paint job should be done by the weekend.

James----outstanding looking Yak. The cockpit is absolutely beautiful.

Jessica----good work on the "Mule" and the "Pigeon". The Hobbycraft kits require a little extra TLC but they build up into great looking aircraft.

Torsten---Love the Spitfire.....there is no finer prop driven aircraft to look at than a Griffon powered Spitfire. They are also great to hear in the air too!

RAM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes, Ian

You're right, Ian. I was happy to see (and hear!!!) the Spit Mk. XIX from La Ferte Alais, flown by Eric Goujon, on several occasions last year. A Merlin or a DB 605 are great to hear, but nothing comes close to that angry Griffon mumbling, especially when the aircraft is taxiing on the ground or a low high speed fly-by ....
Here it's me at the Coburg Air Show in June last year, when I came pretty close to the old lady. It was a windy and rainy summers day ....

Torsten, thanks for sharing the photo. What a great shot! Looking forward to seeing your MK XII completed. Those Airfix kits have really come a long way. I got the MK XVII Seafire recently and it is really a very fine kit.

Jon nice work on the bolt its coming along nicely

Jessie don't worry about the pre shading and it really is not the worst I have seen worse but the more times you do it it gets easier. At least the good thing with it only being the pre shading you can just spray more layers of the top colour(s) until the pre-shading comes through the top colour how you want

Jon, you've made a great Thunderbolt out of this ancient kit! I have to build one again also.
Jessie, don't worry about this preshading. You won't see much of it later. I never do pre- or postshading on my models, just leave them to "natural weathering" (= dust).....
Anyway, here is how far I am at the end of this weekend:
Ocean Grey is done .....

.... and Dark Green is also on. The camo is again airbrushed freehand. I'm really satisfied with this paint job ....

.... the prop is just test fit. Still some minor corrections have to be done.

Next step is fixing the landing gear and the guns. The fighter should be ready for Future by the end of next week.

Happy modelling!

Torsten, great work on the Spitfire! I am like you, I never really understood the point of pre shading my models? It isn't done on the real thing, so I guess I figure I won't do it on the model of the real thing! ha ha Good job once more, looking forward to seeing it done. Russell

Greetings.
Some more progress:

Recognition lights

Dash

Exhaust

Rear wells

front

Canopy masked inside and out

Internal masks removed after paint

Enhancement of the seat

Cockpit painted, weathered and sealed with matte varnish

Same for the undercarriage

That's all for now.
All the best.

Well, I have slacked on pic uploads too much lately, but not on the progress front of my Hellcat. I preshaded, painted on the RAF Green over Ocean grey, and hit the invasion stripes this morning. Tomorrow I should be able to hang the main gear, and expect a gloss coat soon. The engine was painted metallic grey and hit with a coat of AK interactive engine grime. I am debating wearing down the panels a little bit with lightened coats of their respective colors.

Torsten, the Spitfire looks cool. The Griffon engine really does give it a much meaner look. I had seriously thought about getting this kit recently, but ended up going for an ICM Spitfire VIII. Thouroughly recomended if you've never given one a try.
Jon, its always good to see a razorback Thunderbolt. I find they get over looked by bubbletop all too often.
Metodi, I'm really enjoying your build. Masking both the inside as well as outside of the canopy is above and beyond the call of duty. I salute you sir!
Michael, the Hellcat is looking great. What scale is it?

My build has gone a little slower than expected given its simplicity. Major assembly is complete. Ive also painted the cockpit Tamiya dark grey and the instrument panel NATO black. I added some seat belts from painted paper superglued in place. Given the small size and heavy canoppy framing this is more than adequate on this model. I should have her ready for priming by the weekend.

I've never understood the criticism of pre-shading "because it isn't done on the real thing" - the real things aren't held together with tube glue or painted with tinlets of Humbrol enamel either....

If you want to critise how realistic it looks as an artistic effect, fair enough - there are many ways to skin the weathering cat, whatever works for you

I agree Neil, I really wasn't trying to be critical about pre shading. I was just pointing out why I don't do it. If people enjoy it and they feel it gives their model a better "look", than fair enough. Russell

Thanks Stephen. I wasn't that hard. Used the leftovers from the diecut masks as a template which helped a lot.

Wauw - some really nice work is being done here!

Myself - I have decided to "crash and burn" my Hasegawa 32-scale Bf109. After dry-fitting the major parts I have come to the conclusion that this kit shows way too much evidence of old age. The fit is bad and the parts are lacking in detail and accuracy. I will simply not be able to make a decent model out of this one. I have learnt a lesson NOT to buy a kit just because of a cool box art

Instead I want to build this one, that I have been dreaming of for some time now:

This is of course the Eduard 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf109 Royal Class kit. The subject I will build is Werner Mölders Bf109E-3 when he was CO of III/JG53 in May 1940.
I have built this subject before - about 3 years ago, when I had just started up this hobby again after a 30 year break. Back then I used the Hasegawa kit and superscale decals. My modelling skills and references for this subject where VERY limited, and the decals have later turned out to be plain wrong! So this time it should be possible to do better.

I'm really looking foreward to get started on this one, but I also have a pin-up campaign running, so I better finish that one before getting too involved...

That's a cool "One-O-Nine", Kenneth. Good luck for your build!. Some years ago I also built a Werner Mölders Messerschmitt (actually 2). One is the D-version he flew in Spain ("Luchs") and the other one is a F-2 Yellow Nose I made out of the 1/48 Hasegawa kit.

Well folks, this is it. Today my first Griffon-Spit left my assembly line and the 5. Spitfire in total .....
The kit is Airfix 1/48. More and better photos follow soon.

Happy modelling and good luck for all your builds!
