This campaign just gets better, the standard of work is excellent. My offering isn't in this league, but it is finished, Fokker DVII Erich Lowenhardt August 1918, the aircraft he was flying when he suffered a mid-air collision with one of his own Jasta.

great work Andrew and Ian you prob have done more work on that cockpit than I'll put into my entire build :>

One of my Favorite things about group builds is seeing all the in progress photos.

I'm typically a slow builder myself so far this year I have finished 2 campaign builds, and have 1 other at about 50%

Fighters was to be my 4th build this year and I have now challenged myself to do a quick build. I purchased the Lindberg kit pretty cheap ($5) so if I mess it up I won't feel too bad.. LOL

so I started it yesterday and here is my photo so far..

First off the kits Good points..

1. It looks like a Me-262
2. It was cheap
3. Not a lot of parts.
4. It is made of plastic

now the bad points...

1. Fit is not very good.
2. detail is not all that detailed
3. cockpit almost not there
4. guns don't line up
5. lots of Flash
6. lots of sanding
7. prob going to need a bit of putty.
8 well i'll stop here.

I really didn't expect much for $5, and I think I got what I paid for...

Andrew------Great looking DVII. The lozenge camo application is really nicely done. You wouldn't think he would have had a mid-air in a bright yellow airplane but I guess it happens. Very nice work!!

Delbert---Thank you sir! F-4 interiors are really fun to go all out on because they are so spacious and you can really see everything. This one was really fun to do. Glad to see your -262 coming along. Look forward to seeing it.

Pilots hate it when that happens. Ruins their entire day, it does.

It looks much better in its pre-collision state.

It certainly ruined his, he baled out and his parachute failed to open, not his day I guess.

Beautiful Fokker Andrew! And in yellow, one of the three evil colors to boot. Simply amazing.

I can attest to the white.. the white underside of my Sea Vixen was sprayed 3 times because it kept coming out grainy.. and I used 2 different paints.. never was happy with it...

next time i'll just use white out..

Thanks everybody, the yellow came out first time, but the pre-spray does not show up on the photos tho it does on the actual model. White is my problem colour, I will be doing a white Halifax for the VP campaign, Have to give that some consideration. Anyway, excellent campaign and some cracking builds, well done everybody.

Raj----Great looking interior on your model!

Mike---Zero looks awesome. Like the ID bands and they really add to the finish.

I got "Stallion 200" decalled this morning after doing the Future application a few days ago. There's no doubt these decals are "low-viz". I am glad it has the fin flash and the slime lights to add some color. Unfortunately it does not have the horse profile on the tail like the -14's did later on. Oh well. Should have it wrapped up by this weekend.

Best wishes, Ian

Ken the 109 is looking great. I have to admit sometimes I do not prime models depending on what sort of weather look I am going for. I only really tend to prime if I have had to do some seam tidying/ sanding/ filling to be sure its back to being smooth and not obvious

Thanks Sam, I agree that priming is not always necessary.

Kenneth----your -109 looks great. Very crisp looking splinter scheme.

Thanks Ian. Your F-4 looks wonderful. Amazing weathering job - I'm impressed! How big is this bird??

Kenneth, great looking 109. Will it be in early Polish campaign markings?

Thanks Stephen. No, it will get the markings of Werner Mölders, JG53, May 1940. That means early RLM71/70 splinter camo oversprayed with splotches of RLM02.
I must admit that I also have problems with Tamiya paint in the airbrush. It dries too quickly and leaves a very rough and matt surface. Not a good base for decals. Xtracrylix and Vallejo Model-Air works much better for me, even though Vallejo is very soft and prone to scratches.

Raj: Looks like a nice cockpit!

Mike: Those decals look great!

Right now I'm in the process of painting crosses and ID marks on the model.
See you soon with more pictures!

Cheers

Thanks Kenneth! The plane is almost two feet in length and about a foot and-a-half in wingspan. Unfortunately this one is going to kill off a whole shelf by itself. I went for a fairly heavily weathered look on the finish because these low-viz overall Gull Grey birds got pretty grimy.

Great work in regards to painting the national insignia on your model. Tough to do but the results are worth it!! Very realistic.

Best wishes, Ian

Got the drop tanks attached to the airplane and installed the resin Martin Baker bang seats in the cockpit. Almost ready for the canopy install and a flat coat. Where on earth am I going to put this plane?

Howdy

Everyone's work here is looking awesome,

My cheapo build is coming along at a nice clip.

Got the assembly 95% done. only got some more sanding and filling left there. I used some light blue as a primer, and for some airbrush practice.

remember, I can hear everyone laughing.. LOL

I'm not laughing Delbert. I think your work looks fine. If you are new to the airbrush so what. 15 years ago I was new to the airbrush too, you can pick it up quickly. That is how we all learn. Take care, Russell

thanks Russell

I'm not exactly new to airbrushing, I just like to practice, I will say I'm a lot better with armor..

and I am trying to get a feel for my new badger Krome.

what I meant about laughing is that compared to most of the great builds I see here, mine isn't all that complicated.

:>

Ian, the 'pit is fantastic, great model.
Mike, been watching your Zeke and was impressed with the theatre stripes, and although the paint tone is dark my references are pretty similar, nice job.
Delbert, silk purse emerging from that sows ear of a kit. I only started to use an airbrush when I joined Aeroscale, I did what you are doing and built a SMER Fokker DVII in Ernst Udet's colours. Airbrushing came out great but the kit still let it down, but like you I only paid £2 for it. Yes, I know, guilty of being a serial DVII builder (and I'd do another).

Thanks Andrew!

Delbert----the -262 is coming along well. Hat's off to you for locking horns with a Lindberg kit. I think sometimes we get spoiled with the Tamiya-Gawa style kits and I have always thought it says good things about a modeller when that person lock horns with a Lindberg, old Airfix, Glencoe, FM etc. style kit and really hits a home-run with the build.

RAM ON !!!!!!!!!

Best wishes, Ian

Delbert, I do not think that anyone is laughing except you. I had the same idea of purchasing the Lindburg Me 262 kit to use as an airbrush guinea pig myself, an inexpensive kit will make me practice and not worry about any what ifs or problems that I may cause with that high dollar kit. I am in agreement with those here that your 262 is coming along good and I am watching to see what I need to do to my 262. And remember you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Thanks Guys for all the encouragement, I don't know about a silk purse, but maybe I'll get a counterfeit handbag.. LOL

I must be a glutton for punishment, I just finished an old Zvedza scout car kit and I think I replaced about 35% of it with Resin and PE.

BTW one of the things I plan to practice is a free hand mottled paint scheme on this one. I can do the sharp edge splinter schemes pretty good so I'll looking forward to trying something new (for me)

Hi All
This is my Airfix 1/48th scale Hurricane.

I dedicate this build to Mick Maidment, one of the best high school teachers I had and also a RAF Hurricane pilot in WWII.
Thanks Mick!
